Quasichanneling of ions in crystals. I. Elastic scattering of ions on atomic “chains” and planes

The scattering of quasichanneled particles on atomic chains and planes is studied by computer simulation for the crystals of chemical compounds. It is shown that quasichanneling is the specific regime of ion motion in the lattice. Its main features are: (1) a sharp increase of the backscattering probability; (2) transition of the ions from the quasichanneled component into a random one; (3) high sensitivity to the structure and the composition of the atomic “chain”; (4) dependence on the value and the direction of the atomic displacements.     

The effect of point defects on the ionic conductivity of RbAg4I5 solid electrolytes

Abstract

The effect has been studied of additive coloring on the magnitude of ion conductivity of RbAg₄I₅ crystals. It has been found that slight changes of silver stoichiometry of 10^?3 at.% can lead to considerable variations of the ionic conductivity Δ[sgrave]_i/[sgrave]_i ? 0.1. The dependence has been observed of the magnitude of ion conductivity on the ratio between the integral intensities of the main bands in the photoluminescence spectrum of the γ-phase of RbAg₄I₅ which associated with the luminescence centres containing vacancies and interstitials of silver cations.

External electric field effect on electronic properties and charge transfer in CoI2/NiI2 spinterface

Electronic structure and spin-related properties of CoI₂/NiI₂ heterostructure were studied by means of density functional theory. It was shown that the electronic structure at the Fermi level can be characterized by a band gap. The effect of the external electric field on charge transfer and electronic properties of the CoI₂/NiI₂ interface was investigated, and it was found that band gap width depends on the strength of the applied electric field, switching its nature from semiconducting to a half-metallic one. An easy control of the electronic properties and promising spin-polarized nature of the CoI₂/NiI₂ spinterface allows the heterostructure to be used in spin-related applications.     

1,2,4-Thiadiazoles as promising multifunctional agents for treatment of neurodegenerative diseases

Detailed studies of properties of new 3-substituted 5-anilino-1,2,4-thiadiazoles containing different substituents at position 3 of the thiadiazole ring were carried out, in particular, their esterase profile and antioxidant properties. It was found that the presence in the molecule of 2-aminopropyl fragment determines an efficient and selective inhibition of butyrylcholinesterase as compared to acetylcholinesterase and carboxylesterase, with radical-scavenging activity being weak. The compounds containing a 2-aminopropenyl fragment possess a high radicalscavenging activity, weakly inhibit cholinesterases, and exhibit anticarboxylesterase activity. A wide spectrum of activity of 3-substituted 5-anilino-1,2,4-thiadiazoles as inhibitors of cholinesterases and highly efficient scavengers of free radicals gives a basis for the optimization of structure and development in this series of original agents for therapy of neurodegenerative diseases.
