Remarks on Third-Order ODEs Relevant to the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky Equation

We are interested in the third-order ordinary differential equations (ODEs) which are related to the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation. So-called steady solutions of the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation are known to admit several types; for example, bounded global solutions or periodic solutions. We show that, in addition to these, there exist solutions which blow up on bounded intervals. Moreover, for certain classes of these ODEs, the nonexistence of nontrivial bounded entire solutions is exhibited.     

Gauss maps of the Ricci-mean curvature flow

In this paper, we investigate the Gauss maps of a Ricci-mean curvature flow. A Ricci-mean curvature flow is a coupled equation of a mean curvature flow and a Ricci flow on the ambient manifold. Ruh and Vilms (Trans Am Math Soc 149: 569–573, 1970) proved that the Gauss map of a minimal submanifold in a Euclidean space is a harmonic map, and Wang (Math Res Lett 10(2–3):287–299, 2003) extended this result to a mean curvature flow in a Euclidean space by proving its Gauss maps satisfy the harmonic map heat flow equation. In this paper, we deduce the evolution equation for the Gauss maps of a Ricci-mean curvature flow, and as a direct corollary we prove that the Gauss maps of a Ricci-mean curvature flow satisfy the vertically harmonic map heat flow equation when the codimension of submanifolds is 1.     

Intrinsic versus extrinsic anomalous Hall effect in ferromagnets

A unified theory of the anomalous Hall effect (AHE) is presented for multiband ferromagnetic metals with dilute impurities. In the clean limit, the AHE is mostly due to extrinsic skew scattering. When the Fermi level is located around anticrossing of band dispersions split by spin-orbit interaction, the intrinsic AHE to be calculated ab initio is resonantly enhanced by its nonperturbative nature, revealing the extrinsic-to-intrinsic crossover which occurs when the relaxation rate is comparable to the spin-orbit coupling.     

Enhancement of Higgs to diphoton decay width in non-perturbative Higgs model

We investigate a possibility if a loop diagram via Higgsino can enhance the Higgs to diphoton decay width in supersymmetric models with an extension of Higgs sector. A model with an additional non-renormalizable term of Higgs fields is firstly analyzed where the higher order term can introduce the Higgs coupling to Higgsinos as well as charged Higgs bosons. We point out that a choice of the Higgs coupling to obtain a significant size of enhancement of diphoton decay width reduces the Higgs mass and/or a size of non-renormalizable term needs to be large and a cutoff scale is around the weak scale. Another model in which the Higgsino mass term is generated by a non-perturbative instanton effect via a strong dynamics in a context of SUSY QCD is also suggested. It is shown that the sign of the Higgs coupling to fermions is opposite from perturbative models due to an operator including bosonic fields in the denominator and a constructive contribution to the diphoton decay amplitude can be easily obtained in this kind of model.     

Design of Photostable,Activatable Near‐Infrared Photoacoustic Probes Using Tautomeric Benziphthalocyanine as a Platform

Near‐infrared (NIR) imaging techniques have attracted significant attention for biological and medicinal applications due to the ability of NIR to penetrate deeply into tissues. However, there are very few stable, activatable molecular probes that can utilize NIR light in the wavelength range beyond 800 nm. Herein, we report a new activatable NIR system for photoacoustic imaging based on tautomeric benziphthalocyanines (BPcs). We found that the existence of a free hydroxyl group is crucial for NIR absorption of BPcs. Synthesized water‐soluble hydroxy BPcs exhibited high photostability and no fluorescence, which are desirable features for photoacoustic imaging. We synthesized BPcs in which the free hydroxyl group was masked by an esterase‐labile or an H₂O₂‐labile group. The photoacoustic signals of these hydroxy‐masked BPcs were increased upon NIR excitation at 880 nm in the presence of esterase or H₂O₂, respectively. These are rare examples of activatable probes utilizing NIR light at around 900 nm.     

Master-oscillator power-amplifier scheme for efficient green-light generation in a planar MgO:PPLN waveguide

We developed a new master-oscillator power-amplifier scheme consisting of a tapered semiconductor amplifier and a fiber-grating-stabilized laser diode for efficient green-light generation in a planar MgO:PPLN waveguide, and demonstrated cw green-light generation of 346 mW.     

Identification of degradation products in loxoprofen sodium adhesive tapes by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry and dynamic pressurized liquid extraction-solid-phase extraction coupled to liquid chromatography-nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy

Rapid and unambiguous identification of three degradation products (DP-1, DP-2 and DP-3) found in heat-stressed loxoprofen sodium adhesive tapes (Loxonin tapes) was achieved by LC-MS and dynamic pressurized liquid extraction (PLE)-solid-phase extraction (SPE) coupled to LC-NMR without complicated isolation or purification processes. The molecular formulae of the degradation products were determined by accurate mass measurements and product ion analyses and on-line hydrogen/deuterium (H/D) exchange experiments provided information about changes in the degradation of loxoprofen. To compensate for the low sensitivity of NMR, on-line dynamic PLE-SPE was employed and higher concentrations of degradation products trapped on the SPE column were afforded in a shorter time than they would be in such time-consuming sample preparations as pre-concentration after extraction. The loop-storage procedure was used in the LC-NMR analysis to allow the acquisition of the (1)H spectra of the three degradation products in one chromatographic run without affecting the peak separation and to avoid the carry-over of previously eluted DP-1 of high concentration by washing the NMR detection cell prior to the measurement of the DP-2 spectrum. Based on the resulting (1)H NMR spectra in combination with the MS results, DP-1 was successfully identified as an oxidation product having an oxodicarboxylic acid structure formed by the cleavage of the cyclopentanone ring of loxoprofen, DP-2 as a cyclopentanone ring-hydroxylated loxoprofen and DP-3 as a loxoprofen l-menthol ester.     

Simultaneous analysis of benzophenone sunscreen compounds in water sample by stir bar sorptive extraction with in situ derivatization and thermal desorption-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry

A method for the simultaneous measurement of benzophenone (BP) sunscreen compounds, its derivatives 2,4-dihydroxybenzophenone (BP-1), 2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone (BP-3), 2-hydroxy-4-methoxy-4'-methylbenzophenone (BP-10), 2-hydroxybenzophenone (2OH-BP), 3-hydroxybenzophenone (3OH-BP) and 4-hydroxybenzophenone (4OH-BP), in water samples was developed using stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE) with in situ derivatization followed by thermal desorption (TD)-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The detection limit is 0.5-2 ng L(-1) (ppt) for the seven BPs. The method shows good linearity and the correlation coefficients are equal to or higher than 0.990 for all the analyte. The average recoveries of BPs range from 102.0 to 128.1% (RSD<15.4%, n=6). Trace amounts of BPs in river water samples were determined by the present method.
