1,3-Dibromo-5,5-dimethylhydantoin(DBH)/kaolin:An efficient reagent system for the synthesis of 14-aryl-14H-dibenzo[a,j]xanthenes under solvent-free conditions

1,3-Dibromo-5,5-dimethylhydantoin,has been used as an efficient catalyst for the synthesis of 14-aryl-14H-dibenzo[a,j]xanthenes in the presence of kaolin.All reactions are performed in the absence of solvent in relatively short reaction times in good to high yields.     

New fatty acid derivatives based on barbiturates and other cyclic β-dicarbonyl compounds and an acyl migration

The use of DCC, triethylamine and 4-dimethylaminopyridine in dichloromethane provides a general and standard one-pot procedure for the O-acylation of cyclic β-dicarbonyl compound derivatives (1) with palmitic and stearic acids which have long hydrocarbon tails, to synthesis of new type of fatty acid derivative in good to excellent yields. Structure elucidation was carried out by FT-IR, ¹H NMR and ¹³C NMR spectroscopy techniques. The acyl migration was also found in results and the corresponding structure was characterized by X-ray crystallography. A proposed mechanism was discussed for the formation of products.     

Unique charge-separated intermolecular and eight-membered intramolecular H-bonds in bis-(thio)barbiturates

Reaction of symmetrical and unsymmetrical (thio)barbituric acids with aldehydes in the presence of triethylamine afforded a new form of bis-(thio)barbiturate containing charge-separated inter- and eight-membered intramolecular H-bonds. The reaction products were obtained as bis-(thio)barbiturates containing eight-membered intramolecular H-bond in the presence of l-(+)-tartaric acid (TA). The intramolecular H-bond strength (kcal/mol) and corresponding pKa value for 4ab′ were estimated to be 37 kcal/mol and ?1.3, respectively.     

Scattering problem with nonlocal separable potential of rank-two: Application to statistical mechanics

In this paper, we present a formulation of statistical mechanics of a thermodynamic system consisting of free particles and independent correlated pairs interacting via nonlocal potential in terms of the scattering properties. Some quantum statistical properties such as energy, heat capacity, second virial coefficient, virial pressure and quantum correction of kinetic energy are described analytically. The difference between the resolvents of the interacting and free Hamiltonians, represented as , that is associated with particle correlations is used for the evaluation of the properties. The statistical properties are related to correlated states, when making a pole expansion of the analytically continued momentum matrix element of . The present work illustrates these relations for a three-dimensional nonlocal separable potential of rank-two.

3-Methyl-1-sulfonic acid imidazolium hydrogen sulfate has been used as an efficient, halogen-free,and reusable Brnsted acidic ionic liquid catalyst for the synthesis of ethyl-4-aryl/heteryl- hexahydro-trimehtyl-5-oxoquinoline-3-carboxylates via the one-pot condensation of dimedone with aryl/heteryl aldehydes, ethyl acetoacetate, and ammonium acetate under solvent-free conditions. This method has the advantage of being clean and simple, as well as providing the desired product in high yield over a short reaction time. Furthermore, the catalyst could be recycled and reused four times without any discernible reduction in activity.

1,1''-Butylenebispyridinium hydrogen sulfate is an efficient, halogen-free and reusable Brönsted ionic liquid catalyst for the synthesis of ethyl-4-aryl/heteryl-hexahydro-trimehtyl-5- oxoquinoline-3-carboxylates by the one-pot condensation of dimedone, aryl/heteryl aldehydes, ethyl acetoacetate, and ammonium acetate under solvent-free conditions. This method has the advantages of high yield, clean reaction, simple methodology, and short reaction time. The ionic liquid can be recycled five times without significant loss of the catalytic activity.

Cross-linked starch nanoparticles stabilized Pickering emulsion polymerization of styrene in w/o/w system

Here, we present a method to synthesize expandable spherical polystyrene beads containing well-dispersed water microdroplets. The beads, 2–3 mm in diameter, were prepared through surfactant-free Pickering emulsion polymerization in water-in-oil-in-water (w/o/w) system using cross-linked starch nanoparticles (CSTN) as emulsifier. The CSTNs were in situ surface-modified by styrene maleic anhydride copolymer as confirmed by infrared spectroscopy and contact angle analysis. The entrapped water microdroplets with the average size of 3–4 μm were shown to be surrounded by a dense layer of the CSTN. The number droplet density as well as water encapsulation efficiency in the polystyrene beads increased with the CSTN concentration. Furthermore, regardless of CSTN content, all samples exhibited high encapsulation stability of over 68 % after 3 months. These characteristics along with good expansion behavior suggest the synthesized beads as expandable polystyrene containing water as a green blowing agent.
