A new periodicity concept for time scales

By means of the shift operators we introduce a new periodicity concept on time scales. This new approach will enable researchers to investigate periodicity notion on a large class of time scales whose members may not satisfy the condition there exists a P > 0 such that $t \pm P \in \mathbb{T}$ for all $t \in \mathbb{T}$ , which is being currently used. Therefore, the results of this paper open an avenue for the investigation of periodic solutions of q-difference equations and more.     

Weak and Strong Convergence of an Implicit Iteration Process in Uniformly Convex Banach Spaces

The purpose of this article is to introduce an implicit iteration process for approximating common fixed points of three finite families nonexpansive mappings and to prove weak and strong convergence theorems in uniformly convex Banach spaces.     

Synthesis and characterization of epoxy resins containing imine group and their curing processes with aromatic diamine

The epoxy resins containing imine bonding were prepared from hydroxyl substituted Schiff base monomers in two steps. At the first step, hydroxyl substituted Schiff base monomers were synthesized via condensation reaction. At the second step, epoxy resins were synthesized from the reaction between Schiff base monomers and epichlorohydrine (EPC). Then curing processes of epoxy resins were achieved by p-phenylenediamine compound. The structures of resulting compounds were confirmed by FT-IR, UV-Vis and ¹H-NMR. TG-DTA and DSC measurements were performed for thermal characterizations of the compounds. Chemical resistances of the cured epoxy-amine systems were determined for coating applications in acidic, alkaline and organic solvents. HCl (10%, aqueous solution), NaOH (10%, aqueous solution), DMSO, DMF, N-methylpyrrolidone, ethanol, THF and acetone were used for corrosion tests. Chemical resistance data of the synthesized epoxy resins demonstrated that they have good chemical resistance against various acid, alkaline and common organic solvents. Surface morphologies of epoxy resin and the cured epoxy resin were determined with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) measurements. Also, optical band gap (E_g) values of Schiff base monomers and epoxy resins were calculated from UV-Vis measurements.     

Amorphous silicon hexaboride at high pressure

ABSTRACT

We investigate the pressure-induced structural phase transformation of amorphous silicon hexaboride (a-SiB₆) using a constant pressure first principles approach. a-SiB₆ is found to undergo a gradual phase transformation to a high-density amorphous phase (HDA) in which the average coordination number of both B and Si atoms is about 6. The HDA phase consists of differently coordinated motifs ranging from 4 to 8. B₁₂ icosahedra are found to persist during compression of a-SiB₆ and the structural modifications primarily occur around Si atoms and in the regions linking pentagonal pyramid-like configurations to each other. Upon pressure release, an amorphous structure, similar to the uncompressed one, is recovered, indicating a reversible amorphous-to-amorphous phase change in a-SiB_6. When the electronic structure is considered, the HDA phase is perceived to have a wider forbidden band gap than the uncompressed one.     

Effect of Operating Conditions in Production of Diagnostic Salmonella Enteritidis O-Antigen-Specific Monoclonal Antibody in Different Bioreactor Systems

In this study, different cultivation systems such as roller bottles (RB), 5-L stirred-tank bioreactor (STR), and disposable bioreactors were used to cultivate hybridoma for lab-scale production of Salmonella Enteritidis O-antigen-specific monoclonal antibody (MAb). Hybridoma cell line was cultivated in either serum-containing or serum-free medium (SFM) culture conditions. In STR, MAb production scaled up to 4 L, and production capabilities of the cells were also evaluated in different featured production systems. Moreover, the growth parameters of the cells in all production systems such as glucose consumption, lactate and ammonia production, and also MAb productivities were determined. Collected supernatants from the reactors were concentrated by a cross-flow filtration system. In conclusion, cells were not adapted to SFM in RB and STR. Therefore, less MAb titer in both STR and RB systems with SFM was observed compared to the cultures containing fetal bovine serum-supplemented medium. A higher MAb titer was gained in the membrane-aerated system compared to those in STR and RB. Although the highest MAb titer was obtained in the static membrane bioreactor system, the highest productivity was obtained in STR operated in semicontinuous mode with overlay aeration.     

Electrical and photoelectrical behaviour of heterojunctions based on novel oligomeric metal complexes

Naringenin‐based Schiff base ligands with 4‐aminobenzoic hydrazide were obtained as a unilateral form ( L¹ ). The ligand was oligomerized by oxidative polycondensation reaction with NaOCl as an oxidant in an aqueous alkaline medium at 90 °C to form a functional oligomer ( L² ), and its transition metal complexes such as those with Cu(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II) were prepared. The monomer and the oligomeric compounds were characterized using various techniques. Optical and electrical properties of the complexes were also investigated. All compounds showed indirect band gaps and they can be accepted as being in the semiconductor class. Organic–inorganic hybrid devices were obtained using n‐Si inorganic semiconductor and the complexes. The characteristic parameters of the devices were determined using current–voltage (I–V) and capacitance–voltage measurements in the dark. Photoelectrical properties of the devices were investigated using I–V measurements under a solar simulator with an AM1.5 global filter. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
