Redox mediation enabled by immobilised centres in the pores of a metal-organic framework grown by liquid phase epitaxy

A layer of a metal-organic framework (SURMOF) was prepared on a thiol monolayer on Au. Charge transport across the insulating membrane could be established by using ferrocene as an immobilised redox mediator. Reversibility of the immobilisation and its role in the electrode kinetics are discussed.     

Geodesic diameter of sets defined by few quadratic equations and inequalities

We prove a bound for the geodesic diameter of a subset of the unit ball in ${\mathbb{R}^n}$ described by a fixed number of quadratic equations and inequalities, which is polynomial in n, whereas the known bound for general degree is exponential in n. Our proof uses methods borrowed from D’Acunto and Kurdyka (to deal with the geodesic diameter) and from Barvinok (to take advantage of the quadratic nature).     

Effect of temperature on growth of psychrophilic and psychrotrophic members of Rhodotorula aurantiaca

The thermodependence of growth kinetic parameters was investigated for the Antarctic psychrophilic strain Rhodotorula aurantiaca and a psychrotrophic strain of the same species isolated in Belgium (Ardennes area). Cell production, maximum growth rate (μ_max), and half-saturation constant for glucose uptake (Ks) of both yeasts were temperature dependent. For the two yeasts, a maximum cell production was observed at about 0°C, and cell production decreased when temperature increased. The μ_max values for both strains increased with temperature up to a maximum of 10°C for the psychrophilic strain and 17°C for the psychrotrophic strain. For both yeasts, Ks for glucose was relatively constant at low temperatures. It increased at temperatures above 10°C for the psychrophilic strain and 17°C for the psychrotrophic strain. Although its glucose affinity was lower, the psychrotrophic strain grew more rapidly than the psychrophilicone. The difference in growth rate and substrate affinity was related to the origin of the strain and the adaptation strategy of R. aurantiaca to environmental conditions.     

A validated RP‐HPLC method for the evaluation of the influence of grapefruit juice on liver S9 activation of sacubitril

Grapefruit juice inhibits esterase enzyme. Therefore, a possible interaction with ester prodrugs should be taken into consideration. In this study, the influence of grapefruit juice on sacubitril (SAC) rat liver S9 activation by esterase enzyme was evaluated. An RP‐HPLC method was developed and validated for estimation of SAC in rat liver S9 fraction using a C₁₈ Cyano column as stationary phase and acetonitrile–sodium di‐hydrogen phosphate buffer (0.02 m , pH 4 adjusted by o‐phosphoric acid, 40:60, v/v), as mobile phase at a flow rate of 1 mL/min and UV detection at 254 nm. The method was successfully applied to an in vitro study in which SAC was incubated with rat liver S9 fraction prepared from rats that had previously ingested grapefruit juice for a week. The calculated SAC concentration after incubation was compared with that of SAC incubated with rat liver S9 fraction from the rat control group. The statistical significance between the results of test and control incubation sets was assessed. In conclusion, the current study demonstrated that grapefruit juice decreased SAC hydrolysis, hence delaying its activation to sacubitrilat (active form) in gut lumen. Based on this food–drug interaction, it may be required that grapefruit juice should be consumed with caution in patients receiving SAC.

On the cohomological equation for interval exchange maps

We exhibit an explicit full measure class of minimal interval exchange maps T for which the cohomological equation Ψ?Ψ°T=Φ has a bounded solution Ψ provided that the datum Φ belongs to a finite codimension subspace of the space of functions having on each interval a derivative of bounded variation.The class of interval exchange maps is characterized in terms of a diophantine condition of “Roth type” imposed to an acceleration of the Rauzy–Veech–Zorich continued fraction expansion associated to T. 二元极值分布的独立性检验及在沪深股市分析中的应用

提出了二元极值分布的一个独立性检验统计量 T5,导出了它的渐近分布 ,得出了模拟分位点 ,并在小样本情况下 ,与其它已有的统计量进行比较 .结果说明本文给出的统计量 T5具有与似然比检验统计量 T3几乎相同的功效 ,且比其它检验方法有效 .最后对中国沪深两市的股票收盘指数的极值进行了独立性检验 ,认为具有显著的相关性 .     

Generation of generalized coherent states with two coupled Bose-Einstein condensates

We present a scheme to prepare generalized coherent states in a system with two species of Bose-Einstein condensates. First, within the two-mode approximation, we demonstrate that a Schrödinger cat-like state can be dynamically generated and, by controlling the Josephson-like coupling strength, the number of coherent states in the superposition can be varied. Later, we analyze numerically the dynamics of the whole system when interspecies collisions are inhibited. Variables such as fractional population, Mandel parameter and variances of annihilation and number operators are used to show that the evolved state is entangled and exhibits sub-Poisson statistics.
