The quest for hydrogen bond-based metal organic nanotubes (MONT)

Given the ability of forming homomeric amide···amide dimer by iso-nicotinamide (nda), we postulate the existence of a hydrogen bond equivalent of the iso-reticular metal organic nanotubes (MONT) built by using copper, p,p′-diphenylmethylene-diphosphinate (pcp), and bipyridine. We obtained the desired primary arrangement of Cu/pcp/nda consisting of a 1-D chain. Instead of the expected amide/amide dimer, the NH₂ groups were engaged in H-bonding networks with the phosphinate ligands in a series of 2-D slabs. The differences and the similarities of the Cu/pcp chains in known MONTs and in the reported structure are also highlighted.     

Comparison of the reaction pp → K0K0 at rest in hydrogen and deuterium. A test of S-state annihilation dominance

From the comparison of the frequency of antiproton annihilation at rest in two mesons in H₂ and D₂, the dominance of S-wave in $\text{p}\text{p}$ annihilation at rest is confirmed, the P-wave contribution being less than 6% at the 95% confidence level. The apparent discrepancy between the channels $\text{p}\text{p}\text{→}\text{K}{}^0\text{K}{}^0$ and $\text{p}\text{p}\text{→ππ}$ is due to the strong dependence of the annihilation dynamics from the angular momentum.     

Identification and determination of mainstream and sidestream smoke components in different brands and types of cigarettes by means of solid-phase microextraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry

The qualitative and quantitative determination of components of mainstream and sidestream smoke has been performed by solid-phase microextraction-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Several brands and types of cigarettes sold in Italy were considered: normal, mild, light, extra light, some with filter and some without. Extraction of the analytes was performed by means of solid-phase microextraction (SPME) and the optimisation of the extraction procedure was performed by experimental design, taking into consideration type of fiber polymer, exposure temperature and time. Sixty-seven components of mainstream and sidestream smoke were identified. The quantified compounds (by means of deuterium-labelled isotopologues) were benzene, toluene, p-xylene, m-xylene, pyridine, o-xylene, limonene, naphthalene, phenol and nicotine. Finally, a comparison between the chemical profile of smoke from the different cigarettes was made.     

Insertion of the Pt(PPh3)2 unit into inorganic triatomic rings coordinated to metal—ligand moieties

Reaction of the [(triphos)Co(E₂S)]BF₄ complexes (triphos = 1,1,1-tris(di-phenylphosphinomethyl)ethane, E = P or As) containing the P₂S or As₂S cyclic units trihapto(η³-bonded to the metal, with (C₂H₄)Pt(PPh₃)₂ involves insertion of the Pt(PPh₃)₂ moiety into a bond of the inorganic ring, yielding the compounds [(triphos)Co(E₂S)Pt(PPh₃)₂]BPh₄ (E = P or As), whose structures have been determined by X-ray diffraction studies.
