The well-known absorption method for measuring metastable and resonant atom densities in reduced-pressure discharges using a low-pressure lamp as a spectral-line source is extended to plasmas sustained at atmospheric pressure where the line profiles are of the Voigt type rather than Gaussian. This technique is further applied to determine the axial distribution of metastable and resonant atom densities in a tubular argon surface-wave (microwave) discharge. At atmospheric pressure, the discharge is radially contracted and determination of the absorption length through lateral probing of the tube becomes a critical issue. Good agreement of the metastable and resonant atom densities calculated from a collisional-radiative model with the measured values supports the validity of the method developed. The model underlines the influence of the molecular ion kinetics on the Ar I 4s level population and reveals an efficient 3-step ionization process involving the 4s and 4p levels for atomic ion formation. 相似文献

Experimental evidence of parametric excitation, by an intense external H.F. field, of an electron surface mode and an ion wave is presented. The pumping electromagnetic energy density is equal to or slightly larger than the thermal energy density of the electrons. The value of fpc/f0 (electron plasma frequency/external field frequency) is that for an electron surface wave. Depending on the pressure and field intensity, this decay instability can lead to three types of low frequency oscillations, with frequencies close to the ion plasma frequency. Two of these are described by Aliev and Silin's intense field theory: one is the volume ion plasma oscillation and the other a surface ion plasma oscillation. The third corresponds to no known ion eigenmode. Several other features of the theory by Aliev and co-workers are also confirmed experimentally, such as the harmonic excitation of the instability (nf0 ≈ fpe/√2, where n is an integer), the instability amplitude as a function of fpe/f0 (above threshold conditions), the value of the mismatch parameter as a function of field strength and ion mass, and the existence of a fine structure corresponding to the symmetric and antisymmetric electron surface oscillations. Diffusion measurements of additives in polyethylene suggest that the main problem for stabilizing this polymer is that of the compatibility of antioxydants. The results of natural ageing (exposure to natural environment) on the antioxydant content of samples, in which diffusion and solubility were studied, confirm that the lifetime of a sample is closely connected with the migration of stabilizers. It seems that the determining factors are the antioxydant solubility and then the diffusion coefficient. Generally, the other factors are of negligible importance. After 6 months, a sample does not retain additive of low solubility but additive of high solubility is still present after 2 years. 相似文献

Because they are based on finite differences, usual discretizations of the Total Variation lead to aliased images. We report the spin state photo-switching dynamics in two polymorphs of a spin-crossover molecular complex triggered by a femtosecond laser flash, as determined by combining femtosecond optical pump-probe spectroscopy and picosecond X-ray diffraction techniques. The light-driven transformations in the two polymorphs are compared. Combining both techniques and tracking how the X-ray data correlate with optical signals allow understanding of how electronic and structural degrees of freedom couple and play their role when the switchable molecules interact in the active crystalline medium. The study sheds light on crossing the border between femtochemistry at the molecular scale and femtoswitching at the material scale. 相似文献
