Bis(2-hydroxyacetophenone)ethylenediimine as a neutral carrier in a coated-wire membrane electrode for lead(II).

A coated-wire ion-selective electrode (CWISE), based on a Schiff base as a neutral carrier, was successfully developed for the detection of Pb(II) in aqueous solution. CWISE exhibited a linear response with a Nernstian slope of 29.4 +/- 0.5 mV/decade within the concentration range of 1.0 x 10(-5) - 1.0 x 10(-1) M lead ion. CWISE has shown detection limits of 5.0 x 10(-6) M. The electrode exhibited good selectivity over a number of alkali, alkaline earth, transition and heavy metal ions. This sensor yielded a steady potential within 10 to 20 s at a linear dynamic range. The electrode was suitable for use in aqueous solutions in a pH range of 2.0 to 5.0. Applications of this electrode for the determination of lead in real samples and as indicator electrode for potentiometric titration of Pb2+ ion using K2CrO4 are reported.     

Ligand exchange reactions with η6-arene-η5-cyclopentadienyliron cations under thermal or photochemical conditions

Reactions of various η⁶-arene-η⁵-cyclopentadienyliron or substituted cyclopentadienyliron cations with trimethyl, triethyl or triphenyl phosphite under either thermal or photochemical conditions all resulted in the replacement of the arene ligand with three phosphite ligands to give η⁵-tris(trimethyl, triethyl or triphenyl phosphite)-η⁵-cyclopentadienyliron or substituted cyclopentadienyliron cations. The yields of the phosphite complexes were higher from photolysis than from the analogous thermolysis. Photolysis of the η⁶-chlorobenzene-η⁵-cyclopentadienyliron cation (IX) carried out in the presence of a more basic or more electron-rich aromatic ligand resulted in the exchange of the chlorobenzene of IX with the more basic arene, thus providing synthetic routes to cyclopentadienyliron complexes that may be difficult to prepare by other means. New complexes synthesized in this way are the η⁶-2-phenylethyl tosylate-η⁵-cyclopentadienyliron cation and the CpFe⁺ complexes of thiophene, 2-methylthiophene, 3-methylthiophene and 2,5-dimethylthiophene.     

A theoretical prediction for exclusive decaysB→K(K*)η c

The decay rates for the exclusiveB decaysBK _c andBK* _c are calculated in the context of the heavy quark effective theory. We obtain(BK _c )/ (BK)=1.6±0.2 and(BK* _c )/ (K*)=0.39±0.04. These results lead to estimates BR(BK _c )=(0.11±0.02)% and BR(BK* _c )=(0.05±0.01)% if we use the central current experimental values forB(K, K ^*) branching ratios.     

Proton spin-lattice relaxation studies. N-aryl-1-isoindolinones

Proton spin-lattice relaxation rates (R₁ values) have been measured, at 270 MHz, for a series of N-aryl isoindolinones. A normalization procedure has been used to enable comparison of R₁ values in different compounds by minimizing the effects on relaxation rates of changes in motional correlation times accompanying changes in substitution patterns. A substantial (4.3-fold) dynamic range of R₁ values has been observed, and individual values have been correlated with the molecular environments of the nuclei. There is evidence for an interring relaxation process.     

Raman scattering study of the low temperature phase transitions in ammonium nitrate

The phase changes in polycrystalline ammonium nitrate and its fully deuterated analogue have been studied by Raman scattering. The phase V and IV transition was found to be associated with the softening and intensity decrease of a NO₃^? librational mode. The Raman line-width data suggest that the VII to V phase transition involves a change in the degree of orientational order of the ions without incurring a change in lattice structure.

Aristoserratine, a New Indole Alkaloid from Aristotelia serrata W.R.B. OLIVER and from A. peduncularis (LABILL .) HOOK . F. The new indole alkaloid aristoserratine (2) has been isolated from Aristotelia. Its structure and absolute configuration were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data.     

Reaction of methyl tetronate with some amines. Synthesis of substituted 4-aminobut-2-enolides

A series of substituted 4-aminobut-2-enolide derivatives have been synthesized by reaction of a variety of substituted amines with methyl tetronate. The ¹H and ¹³C nmr spectral analysis of all compounds synthesized are given.
