Intramolecular spin alignment in pi-conjugated molecules is studied theoretically in a model of a Peierls-Hubbard chain coupled with two localized spins. By means of the exact diagonalization technique, we demonstrate that a spin singlet (S=0) to quartet (S=3/2) transition can be induced by electronic doping, depending on the chain length, the positions of the localized spins, and the sign of the electron-spin coupling. The calculated results provide a theoretical basis for understanding the mechanism of spin alignment recently observed in a diradical donor molecule.  相似文献

A number of hexagonal phases with inflated/deflated a lattice parameters but equal c parameters are found to exist with compositions close to that of the icosahedral phase. Surprisingly, no cubic or orthorhombic approximants are found. The closeness of the hexagonal phases to the icosahedral phase is shown through the electron diffraction features. Through stereographic analysis of the hexagonal phases it is shown that they consist of three icosahedral units rotated by 120 degrees about a common twofold axis, forming the sixfold axis. It is suggested that this phase falls into a class of crystals closely related to both the icosahedral and decagonal quasicrystals, but are not approximants to them. These phases can instead be considered to be approximant to the hexagonal quasicrystal.  相似文献

The Hyogo Ion Beam Medical Center was constructed in 2001 as the world’s first charged particle radiotherapy center where both proton and carbon-ion radiotherapy can be performed. From April 2001 to February 2007, more than 1,400 patients with a variety of cancers were treated. Most of the tumors except for prostate cancer were considered hard to cure with standard treatments such as surgery or conventional x-ray radiotherapy. The clinical results obtained so far are very encouraging, mainly due to the excellent dose localization to the tumor and strong cell killing effects of protons and carbon-ions. The good indications are localized tumors including skull base tumors, head and neck tumors, cancers of the lung, the liver, and the prostate, and bone and soft tissue sarcomas. Charged particle radiotherapy will significantly improve the quality of life of cancer patients and promote their speedy return to normal lives or work if it is used for early stage cancer.  相似文献

Magnetic data are presented for LnMnO3 (Ln=Ho, Er, Tm, Yb, and Lu) having the hexagonal crystal structure of P63cm. DC magnetization measurements show that magnetic order is not clearly observed for Ln=Ho-Yb, while an antiferromagnetic transition of the Mn3+ moments is found at ∼90 K for LuMnO3, where the Lu3+ ion has no 4f localized moment. This is ascribed to both the paramagnetism of Ln3+ and the suppression of magnetization in the Mn3+ sublattices arising from strong antiferromagnetic interactions between Mn3+. Deviation from the Curie-Weiss law at low temperatures indicates the onset of antiferromagnetism. Some magnetization data of Ca-substituted compounds, Ln0.5Ca0.5MnO3, which have the different crystal structure of orthorhombic Pnma, are also discussed briefly.  相似文献

Droplet wetting on two parallel filaments may assume a barrel-shaped morphology or a liquid bridge depending upon the filament diameter and spacing, droplet volume, and contact angle. This paper is aimed to examine the dependency of droplet wetting length upon the above parameters. In the process, morphology of either a barrel-shaped droplet or a liquid bridge sitting on two parallel filaments is determined numerically by using surface finite element method (SFEM). Variation of wetting length with contact angle is examined at varying droplet volume, filament spacing, and droplet morphology. It is found that the droplet wetting length increases with decreasing filament spacing ratio as well as contact angle while it also increases with the growth of droplet volume. The dependency of wetting length upon contact angle behaves sensitive to filament spacing in the case of stable liquid bridges, while it exhibits nearly constant sensitivity to the contact angle in the case of barrel-shaped droplets. The quantitative relations yielded in this study can be considered as characteristic curves applicable for a variety of droplet-on-filament systems, particularly useful to wetting property characterization of filaments, micro liquid delivery, biological cell manipulation, etc.  相似文献
