Nonperturbative D-brane instantons can generate perturbatively absent though phenomenologically relevant couplings for type II orientifold compactifications with D-branes. We discuss the generation of the perturbatively vanishing SU(5) GUT Yukawa coupling of type <10 10 5(H)>. Moreover, for a simple globally consistent intersecting D6-brane model, we discuss the generation of mass terms for matter fields. This can serve as a mechanism for decoupling exotic matter.  相似文献

Structural transitions of metastable Ti1–xAlxN coatings on technically relevant substrates were determined as a function of the Ti/Al ratio. Ti1–xAlxN films with different Ti/Al ratios were deposited on high speed steel (HSS) substrates at substrate temperatures of 300?° and 500?°C by means of reactive magnetron sputtering ion plating (MSIP). A Ti/Al compound target was used as well as a cluster arrangement of one Ti and one Al target for comparison. The composition of the films was determined by electron probe microanalysis (EPMA), the crystallographic structure by thin film X-ray diffraction (XRD). The analyses revealed that films deposited with Ti/Al ratios of 44/56 and 36/64 had grown in cubic NaCl structure, a film with a Ti/Al ratio of 32/68 was two-phase, and a Ti/Al ratio of 25/75 led to a hexagonal film in wurtzite structure. Only small differences of the lattice parameters could be observed in dependence of temperature: At 300?°C the lattice parameters of the cubic structure corresponded exactly to Vegard‘s law, whereas they slightly decreased in the films deposited at 500?°C. The application of a cluster arrangement instead of a compound target resulted in nearly the same lattice parameters and peak shapes.  相似文献

We show how to separate a doubly nonnegative matrix, which is not completely positive and has a triangle-free graph, from the completely positive cone. This method can be used to compute cutting planes for semidefinite relaxations of combinatorial problems. We illustrate our approach by numerical tests on the stable set problem.  相似文献

Survey data and a simulation model based on a stochastic pair formation process are used to construct networks of sexual contacts. We model heterosexual partnerships which can be steady or casual depending on their average duration. Transmission of an infectious disease can take place in pairs of a susceptible and an infected individual. We study networks of sexual contacts accumulated during 1 year for different types of mixing patterns. The networks are constructed on the basis of data from a survey in The Netherlands. We analyze the network structure for different mixing patterns and investigate the relationship between network structure and disease spread; furthermore we study the effect of prevention measures on the structure of the network.  相似文献

In protein crystallography, spherulites are considered the result of a failed crystallization experiment. Understanding the formation of these structures may contribute to finding methods to prevent their formation. Here, we present an in situ study on lysozyme spherulites grown from sodium nitrate and sodium thiocyanate solutions, investigating their morphology and growth kinetics using optical microscopy. In a morphodrom, we indicate the conditions at which spherulites form for the lysozyme-nitrate system, showing that liquid-liquid phase separation is not a prerequisite to form sheaflike spherulites and that supersaturation is not the only factor determining their creation. Despite their sheaflike morphology, the spherulites all appear to be formed through heterogeneous nucleation. The spherulites are of a new polymorphic form and are less stable than the monoclinic form. For a single needle, growth kinetics indicate surface processes to be the rate-limiting step during growth, but for an entire spherulite volume, diffusion still plays a role. Spherulites simulated by using a time-dependent, tip-splitting model are found to compare well to experimentally observed spherulites.  相似文献

Nowadays, a lot of time and resources are used to determine the quality of goods and services. As a consequence, the quality of measurements themselves, e.g., the metrological traceability of the measured quantity values is essential to allow a proper evaluation of the results with regard to specifications and regulatory limits. This requires knowledge of the measurement uncertainties of all quantity values involved in the measurement procedure, including measurement standards. This study shows how the uncertainties due to the preparation, as well as the chemical and compositional stability of a chemical measurement standard, or calibrator, can be estimated. The results show that the relative standard uncertainty of the concentration value of a typical analytical measurement standard runs up to 2.8% after 1 year. Of this, 1.9% originates from the preparation of the measurement standard, while 2.0 and 0.53% originate from the chemical and compositional stability during storage at −20 °C. The monthly preparation of working calibrators stored at 4 °C and used on a weekly basis, results in an additional standard uncertainty of the analyte concentration value of 0.35% per month due to compositional stability. While the preparation procedure is the major contributor to the total measurement uncertainty, the uncertainties introduced by the stability measurements are another important contributor, and therefore, the measurement procedure to evaluate stability is important to minimize the total measurement uncertainty.  相似文献

We present explicit results for the product of all horizon areas for general rotating multicharge black holes, both in asymptotically flat and asymptotically anti-de Sitter spacetimes in four and higher dimensions. The expressions are universal, and depend only on the quantized charges, quantized angular momenta and the cosmological constant. If the latter is also quantized these universal results may provide a "looking glass" for probing the microscopics of general black holes.  相似文献

We study gel formation in a mixture of equally-sized oppositely charged colloids both experimentally and by means of computer simulations. Both the experiments and the simulations show that the mechanism by which a gel is formed from a dilute, homogeneous suspension is an interrupted gas-liquid phase separation. Furthermore, we use Brownian dynamics simulations to study the relation between gel formation and the equilibrium phase diagram. We find that, regardless of the interaction range, an interrupted liquid-gas phase separation is observed as the system is quenched into a state point where the gas-liquid separation is metastable. The structure of the gel formed in our experiments compares well with that of a simulated gel, indicating that gravity has only a minor influence on the local structure of this type of gel. This is supported by the experimental evidence that gels squeezed or stretched by gravity have similar structures, as well as by the fact that gels do not collapse as readily as in the case of colloid-polymer mixtures. Finally, we check whether or not crystallites are formed in the gel branches; we find crystalline domains for the longer ranged interactions and for moderate quenches to the metastable gas-liquid spinodal regime.  相似文献

The convex cone of n×n completely positive (CP) matrices and its dual cone of copositive matrices arise in several areas of applied mathematics, including optimization. Every CP matrix is doubly nonnegative (DNN), i.e., positive semidefinite and component-wise nonnegative, and it is known that, for n4 only, every DNN matrix is CP. In this paper, we investigate the difference between 5×5 DNN and CP matrices. Defining a bad matrix to be one which is DNN but not CP, we: (i) design a finite procedure to decompose any n×n DNN matrix into the sum of a CP matrix and a bad matrix, which itself cannot be further decomposed; (ii) show that every bad 5×5 DNN matrix is the sum of a CP matrix and a single bad extreme matrix; and (iii) demonstrate how to separate bad extreme matrices from the cone of 5×5 CP matrices.  相似文献
