The gauge covariance of the wave function phase factor in noncommutative quantum mechanics (NCQM) is discussed. We show that the naive path integral formulation and an approach where one shifts the coordinates of NCQM in the presence of a background vector potential leads to the gauge non-covariance of the phase factor. Due to this fact, the Aharonov–Bohm phase in NCQM which is evaluated through the path-integral or by shifting the coordinates is neither gauge invariant nor gauge covariant. We show that the gauge covariant Aharonov–Bohm effect should be described by using the noncommutative Wilson lines, what is consistent with the noncommutative Schrödinger equation. This approach can ultimately be used for deriving an analogue of the Dirac quantization condition for the magnetic monopole.  相似文献

We investigate experimentally the motion and structure of isolated plasma filaments propagating through neutral gas. Plasma filaments, or "blobs," arise from turbulent fluctuations in a range of plasmas. Our experimental geometry is toroidally symmetric, and the blobs expand to a larger major radius under the influence of a vertical electric field. The electric field, which is caused by nabla B and curvature drifts in a 1/R magnetic field, is limited by collisional damping on the neutral gas. The blob's electrostatic potential structure and the resulting E x B flow field give rise to a vortex pair and a mushroom shape, which are consistent with nonlinear plasma simulations. We observe experimentally this characteristic mushroom shape for the first time. We also find that the blob propagation velocity is inversely proportional to the neutral density and decreases with time as the blob cools.  相似文献

A category of parallel π-stacking interaction, termed pancake bonding, is surveyed. The main characteristics are: the interaction occurs among radicals with highly delocalized π-electrons in their singly occupied molecular orbitals (SOMOs), the contact distances in the π-stacking direction are shorter than the typical van der Waals distances, and the stabilization obtained by the bonding combination of the SOMO orbitals leads to direct atom-to-atom overlap with strong orientational preferences. These atypical intermolecular interactions contain a component of electron sharing between the radicals that can be viewed as covalent-like. Pancake bonded dimers characteristically have low-lying singlet and triplet states and show characteristic interlayer vibrational modes. Pancake bonded aggregates serve as molecular components in many conducting and other functional organic materials. The role of van der Waals (vdW) interactions in pancake bonded dimers, chains, and other aggregates is different from closed shell vdW aggregates: here the Pauli repulsions reduce the attractive dispersion interaction significantly. Fluxionality between π- and σ-bonded aggregates often occur in the context of pancake bonding. Both experimental and computational aspects are reviewed.  相似文献

We report computer simulation experiments based on our agent‐based simulation tool to model a new N‐person game based on John Conway's Game of Life. The individual agents may choose between two behavior options: cooperation or defection. The payoff (reward/penalty) functions are given as two parabolas: one for each option. After a certain number of iterations, the behavior of the agents stabilizes to either a constant value or oscillates around such a value. The simulation's goal is to investigate the effects of intermediate behavior on a society of agents. We have performed a systematic investigation of this game for all six possible cases of the mutual positions of parabolic payoff functions crossing each other at two points: x = 0.3 and 0.7 where x is the ratio of the cooperation choice to the total number of agents in the agent's neighborhood. The global ratios X(t) of the total number of cooperators in the entire array of agents as functions of time (iterations) and the solutions of the game Xfinal as functions of X0 were observed for each case for Pavlovian, greedy, and conformist agents. The solutions have predictable tendencies only when the neighborhood is the entire array of greedy or conformist agents. In this study, we have reconstructed the statistical 3D structure of hundreds of nanometers thick surface immobilized flagellar filament protein layers in their native environment, in buffer solution. The protein deposition onto the surface activated Ta2O5 film was performed in a flow cell, and the immobilization process was followed by in situ spectroscopic ellipsometry. A multilayer optical model was developed, in that the protein layer was described by five effective medium sublayers. Applying this method, an in-depth analysis of the protein layer formation was performed. Based on the kinetics in the distribution of the surface mass density, the statistical properties of the filamentous film could be determined computationally as a function of the measurement time. It was also demonstrated that the 3D structure of the protein layer can be reconstructed based on the calculated in-depth mass density profile. The computational investigation revealed that the filaments can be classified into two individual groups in approximately equal ratio according to their orientation. In the first group the filaments are close to laying position, whereas in the second group they are in a standing position, resulting in a significantly denser sublayer close to the substrate than at a larger distance.  相似文献

Successful analysis of particulate/low vapor pressure analytes such as explosives and toxic chemicals, and commercial pesticides require new sampling tools that enable detection of these analytes using current vapor phase detection instruments. We describe a sampling approach that uses stainless steel screens coated with a sticky polydimethyl siloxane (PDMS) coating to capture particulates from surfaces. Preliminary results for the collection of dimethyl methylphosphonate (DMMP) sorbed onto silica gel (SG) particulates (DMMP/SG) from a surface with subsequent analysis by thermal desorption-cylindrical ion trap mass spectrometry (TD-CITMS) are reported.  相似文献

The liquid-to-air membrane energy exchanger is a novel membrane base energy exchanger that allows both heat and moisture transfer between air and a salt solution using a membrane. The heat and mass transfer performance of a single one is significantly dependent on two dimensionless parameters: number of heat transfer units and the ratio of heat capacity rates between solution flow and airflow (Cr*). In this study, the effectiveness of a small-scale liquid-to-air membrane energy exchanger under low Cr* conditions (i.e., Cr* < 1) that has been not investigated previously is experimentally and numerically tested.  相似文献
