Biochemical and structural changes of the dermal connective tissue substantially contribute to the phenotype of aging skin. To study connective tissue metabolism with respect to ultraviolet (UV) exposure, we performed an in vitro (human dermal fibroblasts) and an in vivo complementary DNA array study in combination with protein analysis in young and old volunteers. Several genes of the collagen metabolism such as Collagen I, III and VI as well as heat shock protein 47 and matrix metalloproteinase-1 are expressed differentially, indicating UV-mediated effects on collagen expression, processing and degradation. In particular, Collagen I is time and age dependently reduced after a single UV exposure in human skin in vivo. Moreover, older subjects display a lower baseline level and a shorter UV-mediated increase in hyaluronan (HA) levels. To counteract these age-dependent changes, cultured fibroblasts were treated with a specific soy extract. This treatment resulted in increased collagen and HA synthesis. In a placebo-controlled in vivo study, topical application of an isoflavone-containing emulsion significantly enhanced the number of dermal papillae per area after 2 weeks. Because the flattening of the dermal-epidermal junction is the most reproducible structural change in aged skin, this soy extract appears to rejuvenate the structure of mature skin.  相似文献

We study the overdamped motion of a particle in a fluctuating one-dimensional periodic potential. The potential has no inversion symmetry, and the fluctuations are correlated in time. At finite temperatures, a stationary current is induced. The amplitude and the direction of the current depend on the details of the noise process that is responsible for the potential fluctuations. We discuss several limiting situations for a general case. Furthermore we calculate the current in the case of a piecewise linear potential for different noise processes and parameters. A detailed discussion of the results is given, including a discussion of the mechanism that is responsible for the current reversal. We compare the present results with results for transport in a ratchet-like potential due to a fluctuating force. We also discuss the biological relevance of the present models for molecular motors. We present a model for the motion of molecular motors that explains why similar molecular motors can move in different directions.  相似文献

Using continuous unitary transformations recently introduced by Wegner [1], we obtain flow equations for the parameters of the spin-boson Hamiltonian. Interactions not contained in the original Hamiltonian are generated by this unitary transformation. Within an approximation that neglects additional interactions quadratic in the bath operators, we can close the flow equations. Applying this formalism to the case of Ohmic dissipation at zero temperature, we calculate the renormalized tunneling frequency. We find a transition from an untrapped to trapped state at the critical coupling constant α c =1. We also obtain the static susceptibility via the equilibrium spin correlation function. Our results are both consistent with results known from the Kondo problem and those obtained from mode-coupling theories. Using this formalism at finite temperature, we find a transition from coherent to incoherent tunneling atT 2 * ≈2T 1 * , whereT 1 * is the crossover temperature of the dynamics known from the NIBA.  相似文献

We consider a class of reversible, two-degree of freedom Hamiltonian systems possessing homoclinic orbits to a saddle-center: an equilibrium having two non-zero real and two nonzero imaginary eigenvalues. Under mild nondegeneracy conditions, we construct a two-parameter unfolding and show that there is a countable infinity of secondary homoclinic bifurcations in any neighborhood of the original system. We also demonstrate the existence of families of periodic orbits and of shifts on two symbols (horseshoes). The lack of hyperbolicity and the presence of conserved quantities make the analysis somewhat delicate. We discuss specific examples for which the nondegeneracy conditions can be explicitly checked but indicate that this is not always possible. We illustrate our results with numerical work.  相似文献

We consider the dynamics of infinite harmonic lattices in the limit of the lattice distance ɛ tending to 0. We allow for general polyatomic crystals, but assume exact periodicity such that the system can be solved, in principle, by Fourier-transform and linear-algebra methods. Our aim is to derive macroscopic continuum limit equations for ɛ →0. For the weak limit of displacements and velocities we obtain the equation of linear elastodynamics, where the elasticity tensor is obtained as a Γ-limit. The weak limit of the local energy density can be described by generalizations of the Wigner-Husimi measure, which satisfies a transport equation on the product of physical space and Fourier space. The concepts are illustrated via several examples and a comparison to Whitham's modulation equation.  相似文献

Further consequences of a finite topological field theory for gravity based on the SL(5,R) gauge group are reported. After symmetry breaking, it induces four-dimensional Einstein spaces with a cosmological constant related to the tiny scale of the symmetry breaking. It is shown that not only a ‘background’ metric emerges from a Higgs-like mechanism, but also consistently the geodesic equation central to Einstein?s equivalence principle. In next order of the symmetry breaking scale, the induced torsion could even provoke a tiny Lorentz violation.  相似文献
