Electron capture negative ion mass spectrometry (ECNI-MS) is a very suitable and popular technique for the identification and quantification of fg-pg amounts of compounds with a sufficiently high electron affinity. Many users of the ECNI mode have faced a lot of frustrating problems due to instrument contamination and wrong recommendations concerning instrument optimisation. This article summarises 14 years of experience with ECNI-MS using a large number of different instruments. Recommendations are given concerning optimisation procedures of important parameters such as ion source pressure and temperature as well as electron energy. An ion pressure optimisation method is proposed using a gas chromatograph. ECNI-MS is very sensitive against trace amounts of contaminants in the mass spectrometer and requires very clean components in the reagent gas line. Recommendations are given concerning suitable parts. Different other contamination sources are also discussed. The construction of a simple and clean gas inlet system is presented. Furthermore, contamination-free cleaning methods for the ion source are suggested. A test method based on the detection of hexachlorobenzene in the full scan mode (m/z 34–300) is proposed. It allows to evaluate both the background level in the mass spectrometer and the overall system performance. Clean instruments should show a signal-to-noise ratio of the total ion current GC signal of at least 20:1 without applying any mass signal area reject threshold. A linearity test procedure is also suggested. It shows that the linear range of a clean and optimised instrument is at least 3 orders of magnitude in the ECNI mode.  相似文献

Abstract— The antioxidant vitamin E (α-tocopherol) may protect both animal and plant cell membranes from light-induced damage. The various biochemical and biophysical modes of protection are considered. An examination is made of the evidence that vitamin E plays an important prophylactic role against a number of serious light-induced diseases and conditions of the eye (cataractogenesis and retinal photodeterioration) and skin (erythrocyte photohem-olysis, photoerythema, photoaging and photocarcinogenesis) that are mediated by photooxidative damage to cell membranes.  相似文献

It was studied by spectroscopy that PSII reaction center complex consisting of three polypeptides, D1, D2 and Cytb559, were purified from PSII particle of CeCl3 treated spinach. The results of the experiment show that Ce3+ could improve the growth of spinach, and accelerate electron transport of PSII particles. Of chl-a of UV-Vis spectrum of D1/D2/Cytb559 complex, Soret band was blue-shifted by 3 nm and Q band by 2 nm, respectively, and the fluorescence emission peak was blue-shifted by 5 nm in CeCl3-treated spinach compared with the one in control. By the extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectroscopy methods, it has been found that Ce3+ is coordinated with 8 nitrogen atoms in the first coordination shell with Ce-N bond length of 0.253 nm, and Ce3+ with 6 oxygen atoms in the second coordination shell with Ce-O bond length of 0.32 nm. However, the secondary structure of D1/D2/Cytb559 complex by circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy has no significant change after CeCl3 treated. It might be that Ce3+ binds to porphyrin rings of chlorophyll and oxygen of amino acid residue of polypeptide in D1/D2/Cytb559 complex, and then accelerates the primary reaction of PSII, intensifies function of P680+ primary electron donor of D1/D2/Cytb559, but there is little change in conformation of PSII reaction center complex.  相似文献

The traditional solvent-based matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI) preparation method has been used to analyze nonpolar polymers of various molecular weights. High resolution silver cationized oligomers with masses of up to 12 KDa were measured using 9.4 tesla Fourier transform mass spectrometry (FTMS) with an external ionization source. It was observed that when time-of-flight mass spectrometry was used, the spectra of polyethylene polymers showed abundant low mass fragment ions. However, these fragments were absent from the FTMS spectra.  相似文献

Fundamental understanding of aerosol formation and particle transport are important aspects of understanding and improving laser-ablation ICP–MS. To obtain more information about particles entering the ICP, laser aerosols generated under different ablation conditions were collected on membrane filters. The particles and agglomerates were then visualised using scanning electron microscope (SEM) imaging. To determine variations between different sample matrices, opaque (USGS BCR-2G) and transparent (NIST SRM 610) glass, CaF2, and brass (MBH B26) samples were ablated using two different laser wavelengths, 193 and 266 nm. This study showed that the condensed nano-particles (∼10 nm in diameter) formed by laser ablation reach the ICP as micron-sized agglomerates; this is apparent from filters which contain only a few well-separated particles and particle agglomerates. Ablation experiments on different metals and non-metals show that the structure of the agglomerates is matrix-dependent. Laser aerosols generated from silicates and metals form linear agglomerates whereas particle-agglomerates of ablated CaF2 have cotton-like structures. Amongst other conditions, this study shows that the absorption characteristics of the sample and the laser wavelength determine the production of micron-sized spherical particles formed by liquid droplet ejection.  相似文献

We answer some questions on the asymptotics of ballot walks raised in [S. B. Ekhad and D. Zeilberger, April 2021] and prove that these models are not D-finite. This short note demonstrates how the powerful tools developed in the last decades on lattice paths in convex cones help us to answer some challenging problems that were out of reach for a long time. On the way we generalize tandem walks to the family of large tandem walks whose steps are of arbitrary length and map them bijectively to a generalization of ballot walks in three dimensions.

[Au2Pd14(3-CO)7(2-CO)2(PMe3)11](PF6)2 has been synthesized from [Pd8(CO)8(PMe3)7] and AuCl(PCy3) in the presence of TIPF6. It has been characterised on the basis of mass spectrometry, infrared and NMR spectroscopy, and a single crystal X-ray diffraction study. The structure is based on a palladium-centered Au2Pd11 icosahedron which shares an edge with a Pd5 trigonal bipyramid.This paper is dedicated to Larry Dahl on his 65th Birthday—his enthusiasm and achievements in cluster chemistry have inspired us all for more than 30 years.  相似文献

The technical lemma underlying the 5-dimensional topologicals-cobordism conjecture and the 4-dimensional topological surgery conjecture is a purely smooth category statement about locating 1-null immersions of disks. These conjectures are theorems precisely for those fundamental groups (good groups) where the 1-null disk lemma (NDL) holds. We expand the class of known good groups to all groups of subexponential growth and those that can be formed from these by a finite number of application of two operations: (1) extension and (2) direct limit. Summary We show that the set of equivalence classes of synchronously automatic structures on a geometrically finite hyperbolic groupG is dense in the product of the sets over all maximal parabolic subgroupsP. The set of equivalence classes of biautomatic structures onG is isomorphic to the product of the sets over the cusps (conjugacy classes of maximal parabolic subgroups) ofG. Each maximal parabolicP is a virtually abelian group, so and were computed in [NS1].We show that any geometrically finite hyperbolic group has a generating set for which the full language of geodesics forG is regular. Moreover, the growth function ofG with respect to this generating set is rational. We also determine which automatic structures on such a group are equivalent to geodesic ones.
