Selective adsorption of proteins on single-wall carbon nanotubes by using a protective surfactant

The dispersion of highly hydrophobic carbon materials such as carbon nanotubes in biological media is a challenging issue. Indeed, the nonspecific adsorption of proteins occurs readily when the nanotubes are introduced in biological media; therefore, a methodology to control adsorption is in high demand. To address this issue, we developed a bifunctional linker derived from pyrene that selectively enables or prevents the adsorption of proteins on single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs). We demonstrated that it is possible to decrease or completely suppress the adsorption of proteins on the nanotube sidewall by using proper functionalization (either covalent or noncovalent). By subsequently activating the functional groups on the nanotube derivatives, protein adsorption can be recovered and, therefore, controlled. Our approach is simple, straightforward, and potentially suitable for other biomolecules that contain thio or amino groups available for coupling.     

Unprecedented noncatalyzed anti-carbozincation of diethyl acetylenedicarboxylate through alkylzinc group radical transfer

The radical carbozincation of diethyl acetylenedicarboxylate, performed at room temperature in the presence of air, leads to fumaric derivatives through a selective alkylzinc group radical transfer controlled by coordination. The total trans stereocontrol is unprecedented, carbocupration is well-known to give the reversal selectivity at low temperature, while classical radical addition methodologies lead to mixtures of isomers.     

On quantum multi-hamiltonian systems

On studying various examples with one degree of freedom, we discuss the possibility of extending the classical concept of multi-Hamiltonian systems to the quantum domain. We show that an adaptation is possible in each case generally leading to distinguish classes of systems characterized globally by their observable algebras.     

Electronically driven phonon anomalies in transition metal carbides

Large maxima in the generalized susceptibility of χ(q) of TaC calculated from its APW band structure are found to correlate very well with observed soft phonon modes. Such maxima are not found for HfC where phonon anomalies are not observed.     

Representations of certain solvable Lie groups on Hilbert spaces of holomorphic functions and the application to the holomorphic discrete series of a Semisimple Lie group

If ($\text{b}$,$\text{j,?}{}_0$) is a normal j-algebra and b^? = {X + ijX;X∈b} then $\text{b}$^? is a positive polarization at /tf₀ in the sense of Auslander and Kostant. The representation $\text{ρ(?}{}_0\text{,b}{}^{\mathrm{?}}\text{)}$ defined as in the orbit theory is shown to be given on a space of holomorphic functions on a Siegel II domain. The Fourier transformation is shown to be an intertwining operator between $\text{ρ(?}{}_0\text{,b}{}^{\mathrm{?}}\text{)}$ and $\text{ρ(?}{}_0\text{,)}$ for a suitable real polarization $\text{h}$. These explicit results are used to deduce the Harish-Chandra conditions defining the holomorphic discrete series of a Semisimple Lie Group.
