Ever since the discovery of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs), there have been many reports and predictions on their superior properties for use in a wide variety of potential applications. However, an SWNT is either metallic or semiconducting; these properties are distinctively different in electrical conductivity and many other aspects. The available bulk-production methods generally yield mixtures of metallic and semiconducting SWNTs, despite continuing efforts in metallicity-selective nanotube growth. Presented here are significant advances and major achievements in the development of postproduction separation methods, which are now capable of harvesting separated metallic and semiconducting SWNTs from different production sources with sufficiently high enrichment and quantities for satisfying at least the needs in research and technological explorations. Opportunities and some available examples for the use of metallic SWNTs in transparent electrodes and semiconducting SWNTs in various device nanotechnologies are highlighted and discussed.  相似文献

We present experimental results of the first high-precision test of quark-hadron duality in the spin-structure function g_{1} of the neutron and 3He using a polarized 3He target in the four-momentum-transfer-squared range from 0.7 to 4.0 (GeV/c);{2}. Global duality is observed for the spin-structure function g_{1} down to at least Q;{2}=1.8 (GeV/c);{2} in both targets. We have also formed the photon-nucleon asymmetry A1 in the resonance region for 3He and found no strong Q2 dependence above 2.2 (GeV/c);{2}.  相似文献

The sonochemical reaction of iron pentacarbonyl is explored in water and in water with the protein BSA (bovine serum albumen). In water, the reaction is found to produce spherical nanoparticles of magnetite (Fe3O4) with a particle size distribution of <10 to approximately 60 nm. In water with BSA, the reaction produces either nanofibers or nanoneedles, depending on the concentration of BSA. The nanofiber and nanoneedle samples are found to be mixtures of goethite, lepidocrocite, and hematite (alpha-FeOOH, gamma-FeOOH, and alpha-Fe2O3, respectively). The sonochemical reaction of iron pentacarbonyl with BSA in water is thought to proceed through the thermal decomposition mechanism for iron pentacarbonyl with BSA acting as a templating agent.  相似文献

There has been significant interest in the binding of anthrax spores by molecular species, but with only limited success. Proteins and more recently peptides were used. However, despite the known presence of carbohydrates on the spore surface, carbohydrate-carbohydrate interactions have hardly been explored likely because of the lack of required specific platform for synthetic carbohydrates. We report the successful use of single-walled carbon nanotubes as a truly unique scaffold for displaying multivalent monosaccharide ligands that bind effectively to anthrax spores with divalent cation mediation to cause significant spore aggregation. The work should have far-reaching implications in development of countermeasure technologies.  相似文献

The parity-violating cross-section asymmetry in the elastic scattering of polarized electrons from unpolarized protons has been measured at a four-momentum transfer squared Q2 = 0.624 GeV2 and beam energy E(b) = 3.48 GeV to be A(PV) = -23.80 ± 0.78(stat) ± 0.36(syst) parts per million. This result is consistent with zero contribution of strange quarks to the combination of electric and magnetic form factors G(E)(s) + 0.517G(M)(s) = 0.003 ± 0.010(stat) ± 0.004(syst) ± 0.009(ff), where the third error is due to the limits of precision on the electromagnetic form factors and radiative corrections. With this measurement, the world data on strange contributions to nucleon form factors are seen to be consistent with zero and not more than a few percent of the proton form factors.  相似文献
