Gamma-ray spectroscopy with relativistic exotic heavy-ions

Feasibility of gamma-ray spectroscopy at relativistic energies with exotic heavy-ions and new generation of germanium detectors (segmented Clover) is discussed. An experiment with such detector array and radioactive is discussed.     

Three methoxy‐substituted diethyl 4‐­phenyl‐2,6‐di­methyl‐1,4‐di­hydro­pyridine‐3,5‐di­carboxyl­ate compounds

Diethyl 4‐(2,5‐di­methoxy­phenyl)‐2,6‐di­methyl‐1,4‐di­hydro­pyridine‐3,5‐di­carboxyl­ate, C₂₁H₂₇NO₆, (I), diethyl 4‐(3,4‐di­methoxy­phenyl)‐2,6‐di­methyl‐1,4‐di­hydro­pyridine‐3,5‐di­carboxyl­ate, C₂₁H₂₇NO₆, (II), and diethyl 2,6‐di­methyl‐4‐(3,4,5‐tri­methoxy­phenyl)‐1,4‐di­hydro­pyridine‐3,5‐di­carboxyl­ate, C₂₂H₂₉NO₇, (III), crystallize with hydrogen‐bonding networks involving the H atom bonded to the N atom of the 1,4‐di­hydro­pyridine ring and carbonyl O atoms in (I) and (II). Unusually, (III) shows O atoms of methoxy groups serving as hydrogen‐bond acceptors.     

Forces, moment and wave pattern for surface combatant in regular head wavesPart II. Measurement results and discussions

Unsteady resistance, heave force, pitch moment and free-surface elevations for DTMB 5512 at steady forward speed and in regular head waves are investigated with different measurement systems for a fairly wide range of test conditions in the IIHR towing tank. Test data are procured for validation of Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes computational fluid dynamics codes and for understanding the physics of unsteady ship hydrodynamics. Zener double exchange from local valence fluctuations in magnetite

Magnetite (Fe3O4) is a mixed valent system where electronic conductivity occurs on the B site (octahedral) iron sublattice of the spinel structure. Below T(V)=123 K, a metal-insulator transition occurs which is argued to arise from the charge ordering of 2+ and 3+ iron valences on the B sites (Verwey transition). Inelastic neutron scattering measurements show that optical spin waves propagating on the B site sublattice (approximately 80 meV) are shifted upwards in energy above T_{V} due to the occurrence of B-B ferromagnetic double exchange in the mixed valent phase. The double exchange interaction affects only spin waves of Delta(5) symmetry, not all modes, indicating that valence fluctuations are slow and the double exchange is constrained by short-range electron correlations above T(V).
