Interpretation of environmental behavior of uranium is based on several steps of data analysis and statistical inference.
First step is sampling and analyzing of uranium in field samples by routine laboratory methods. Such methods have to fulfill
multiple requirements like robustness, efficiency, low detection limit and precision. A comparison of different approaches
in assigning uncertainty to experimentally obtained analytical data shows that classical error estimation is not significantly
inferior to more sophisticated modern techniques like inverse regression or orthogonal regression. A second step is the correlation
of analytical data with current state of insight into environmental behavior of uranium. Such a correlation furthers the choice
of adequate geochemical models and quality of geochemical data base for subsequent detailed analysis, e.g. by geochemical
modeling. An appraisal of the individual steps in this complex analysis is given on the basis of statistical procedures for
calibration and an EH-pH diagram of uranium for atmospheric conditions.

A generalized theory of elasticity, taking into account the rotational degrees of freedom of point bodies constituting a continuum, was proposed at the beginning of the twentieth century by the Cosserat brothers. We report the experimental observation of coupled rotational-translational modes in a noncohesive granular phononic crystal. While absent in the classical theory of elasticity, these elastic wave modes are predicted by the Cosserat theory. However the Cosserat theory fails to predict correctly the dispersion of the elastic modes in granular crystals even in the long-wavelength limit. 相似文献

The electronic structure of K-doped C60 was investigated by photoemission (PE) and X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) studies at the C-1s and K-2p thresholds. In addition, information on the local K-derived partial density of states in superconducting K3C60 was obtained by resonant PE at the K-2p

. From resonant PE, occupied states with K-p, d character could be identified in the binding-energy region from 1.5 to 8 eV below, but not directly at the Fermi level. The beam-helicity asymmetry has been measured simultaneously for the reactions
p→epγ and
p→epπ
0 in the Δ(1232)-resonance region at Q
2 = 0.35(GeV/c)2. The experiment was performed at MAMI with a longitudinally polarized beam and an out-of-plane detection of the proton. The
results are compared with calculations based on dispersion relations for virtual Compton scattering and with the MAID model
for pion electroproduction. There is an overall good agreement between experiment and theoretical calculations. The remaining
discrepancies may be ascribed to an imperfect parametrization of some γ

N→πN multipoles, mainly contributing to the non-resonant background. The beam-helicity asymmetry in both channels (γ and π

Fast detectors employed at third‐generation synchrotrons have reduced collection times significantly and require the optimization of commercial as well as customized software packages for data reduction and analysis. In this paper a procedure to collect, process and analyze single‐crystal data sets collected at high pressure at the Extreme Conditions beamline (P02.2) at PETRA III, DESY, is presented. A new data image format called `Esperanto' is introduced that is supported by the commercial software package CrysAlisPro (Agilent Technologies UK Ltd). The new format acts as a vehicle to transform the most common area‐detector data formats via a translator software. Such a conversion tool has been developed and converts tiff data collected on a Perkin Elmer detector, as well as data collected on a MAR345/555, to be imported into the CrysAlisPro software. In order to demonstrate the validity of the new approach, a complete structure refinement of boron‐mullite (Al5BO9) collected at a pressure of 19.4 (2) GPa is presented.
