Characterization of summability methods with high indices

In this paper we establish a set of necessary and sufficient conditions in order that |C, 0| _k ? |R, p _n | _s and |R, p _n | _k ? |C, 0| _s for the case 1 < k ≤ s < ∞. As a corollary, we obtain that a crucial assumption of [BOR, H.: A new result on the high indices theorem, Analysis 29 (2009), 403–405] is omitted and that the other one is not only sufficient but also necessary for his consequence to hold.     

Numerical Optimal Harvesting for a Periodic Age-Structured Population Dynamics with Logistic Term

We investigate an optimal harvesting problem for age-structured population dynamics with logistic term and periodic vital rates. We use first-order necessary optimality conditions in order to derive an algorithm to approximate the optimal harvesting effort. We present corresponding numerical experiments.     

Slant and pseudo-slant submanifolds in LCS-manifolds

We show new results on when a pseudo-slant submanifold is a LCS-manifold. Necessary and sufficient conditions for a submanifold to be pseudo-slant are given. We obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for the integrability of distributions which are involved in the definition of the pseudo-slant submanifold. We characterize the pseudoslant product and give necessary and sufficient conditions for a pseudo-slant submanifold to be the pseudo-slant product. Also we give an example of a slant submanifold in an LCS-manifold to illustrate the subject.     

Approximation algorithm for the on-line multi-customer two-level supply chain scheduling problem

A manufacturer has to process jobs released on-line and deliver them to customers. Preemption is allowed. Jobs are grouped into batches for delivery. The sum of the total flow time and the total delivery cost is minimized. Deliveries to different customers cannot be combined. We present an on-line algorithm with the competitive ratio bounded by 3+α$3+\alpha$, where α$\alpha$ is the ratio of the largest processing time to the smallest processing time.     

On the exact distribution and mean value function of a geometric process with exponential interarrival times

The geometric process is considered when the distribution of the first interarrival time is assumed to be exponential. An analytical expression for the one dimensional probability distribution of this process is obtained as a solution to a system of recursive differential equations. A power series expansion is derived for the geometric renewal function by using an integral equation and evaluated in a computational perspective. Further, an extension is provided for the power series expansion of the geometric renewal function in the case of the Weibull distribution.     

Inequality constrained ridge regression estimator

We carry out the idea of inequality constrained least squares (ICLS) estimation of Liew (1976) to the inequality constrained ridge regression (ICRR) estimation. We propose ICRR estimator by reducing the primal–dual relation to the fundamental problem of Dantzig and Cottle, 1967, Cottle and Dantzig, 1974 with Lemke (1962) algorithm. Furthermore, we conduct a Monte Carlo experiment.     

On a Sturm–Liouville type problem with retarded argument

In this work, a Sturm–Liouville‐type problem with retarded argument, which contains spectral parameter in the boundary conditions and with transmission conditions at the point of discontinuity are investigated. We obtained asymptotic formulas for the eigenvalues and eigenfunctions. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

On the m order difference sequence space of generalized weighted mean and compact operators

In this article, using generalized weighted mean and difference matrix of order m, we introduce the paranormed sequence space ?(u, v, p; Δ^(m)), which consist of the sequences whose generalized weighted Δ^(m)-difference means are in the linear space ?(p) defined by I.J. Maddox. Also, we determine the basis of this space and compute its α-, β- and γ-duals. Further, we give the characterization of the classes of matrix mappings from ?(u, v, p, Δ^(m)) to ?_∞, c and c₀. Finally, we apply the Hausdorff measure of noncompacness to characterize some classes of compact operators given by matrices on the space ?_p(u, v, Δ^(m))(1 ≤ p < ∞).
