Synthesis,chiral resolution and optical properties of amphiphilic oxa[9]helicene derivatives

A new class of amphiphilic oxa[9]helicene derivatives were synthesized in excellent-to-fair yields, and successfully characterized by different analytical techniques (e.g., FT-IR, ¹H and ¹³C NMR, and HRMS). The compounds were enantiomerically separated by chiral HPLC and the absolute configurations of the enantiomers were confirmed by circular dichroism spectroscopy. Other optical properties (e.g., UV, photoluminescence, specific optical rotation and molecular optical rotation) of the newly synthesized compounds were also examined.     

Cp*CoIII‐Catalyzed C(sp3)−H Bond Amidation of 8‐Methylquinoline

An efficient and external oxidant‐free, Cp*Co^III‐catalyzed C(sp³)?H bond amidation of 8‐methylquinoline, using oxazolone as an efficient amidating agent, is reported for the first time under mild conditions. The reaction is selective and tolerates a variety of functional groups. Based on previous reports and experimental results, the deprotonation pathway proceeds through an external base‐assisted concerted metalation and deprotonation process.

Protection of radiation induced DNA damage by a newly developed molybdenum complex

Ionizing radiation, especially gamma (γ) radiation, is assumed to be very effective for DNA damage due to formation of free radicals. DNA damage and inhibition of DNA damage produced on irradiation with ⁶⁰Co gamma source were characterized by fluorescence spectrometry. Reduced form of glutathione (GSH) and its novel molybdenum glutathione (MoG) complex were employed for the protection of γ-radiation induced DNA damage. The spectroscopic results of the present study showed that the MoG complex is more efficient in protecting the double stranded DNA in vitro compared to reduced form of GSH.     

Use of state of polarization transparent scheme for polarization shift keying signal as optical phase conjugator to improve the transmission performance

Transmission characteristics of polarization shift keying (PolSK) signal is experimentally demonstrated in this work. Performance degradation due to transmission is improved using optical phase conjugation (OPC) technique. The wavelength converter based on the proposed state of polarization (SOP) transparent scheme for PolSK signal is effective to use it as mid-link optical phase conjugator and which is difficult to achieve using conventional wavelength conversion scheme. It is found that for fiber transmission, the performance of both of the orthogonal SOPs of the PolSK signal is different for their respective chirping characteristics which can be optimized to be similar using proposed OPC technique.
