This study was carried out to investigate the break up of nanoparticle clusters in a liquid using an in‐line rotor stator. Two types of fumed silica particles were dispersed in distilled water: Aerosil 200 V, which is hydrophilic, has a primary particle size of 12 nm and Aerosil R816 which is based on Aerosil 200 V and surface modified to render it hydrophobic. The article reports on the rheology of the dispersions, particle size analysis, the effect of concentration, and processing conditions such as the rotor speed, that is, the specific power input, and flow rate, that is, the residence time.  相似文献

There has been a kinetic examination of the polymerization of acrylic acid in dilute aqueous solution in the presence of copolymers of vinyl pyrrolidone with acrylamide or styrene. In general, the characteristics of the polymerizations are very similar to those found in the presence of polyvinyl pyrrolidone homopolymer, but the definite differences, taken in conjunction with gravimetric data on the polymer complexes, can be explained by the fact that acrylamide is hydrophilic while styrene is hydrophobic. The use of the copolymers has permitted an assessment of the effect of dilution of monomer adsorbed on the interacting polymer.  相似文献

A Latin Square of order n is an n × n array of n symbols, in which each symbol occurs exactly once in each row and column. A transversal is a set of n entries, one selected from each row and each column of a Latin Square of order n such that no two entries contain the same symbol. Define T(n) to be the maximum number of transversals over all Latin squares of order n. We show that for n ≥ 5, where b ≈ 1.719 and c ≈ 0.614. A corollary of this result is an upper bound on the number of placements of n non-attacking queens on an n × n toroidal chess board. Some divisibility properties of the number of transversals in Latin squares based on finite groups are established. We also provide data from a computer enumeration of transversals in all Latin Squares of order at most 9, all groups of order at most 23 and all possible turn-squares of order 14.  相似文献

We present the first measurement of pseudorapidity densities of primary charged particles near midrapidity in Au+Au collisions at sqrt[s(NN)] = 56 and 130 GeV. For the most central collisions, we find the charged-particle pseudorapidity density to be dN/deta|(|eta|<1) = 408+/-12(stat)+/-30(syst) at 56 GeV and 555+/-12(stat)+/-35(syst) at 130 GeV, values that are higher than any previously observed in nuclear collisions. Compared to proton-antiproton collisions, our data show an increase in the pseudorapidity density per participant by more than 40% at the higher energy.  相似文献

We present measurements of the pseudorapidity distribution of primary charged particles produced in Au+Au collisions at three energies, sqrt[s(NN)]=19.6, 130, and 200 GeV, for a range of collision centrali-ties. The distribution narrows for more central collisions and excess particles are produced at high pseudorapidity in peripheral collisions. For a given centrality, however, the distributions are found to scale with energy according to the "limiting fragmentation" hypothesis. The universal fragmentation region described by this scaling grows in pseudorapidity with increasing collision energy, extending well away from the beam rapidity and covering more than half of the pseudorapidity range over which particles are produced. This approach to a universal limiting curve appears to be a dominant feature of the pseudorapidity distribution and therefore of the total particle production in these collisions.  相似文献

Twenty-seven patients with soft-tissue tumors were examined with a Picker 0.15-tesla resistive magnet and by computed tomography (CT). In all but one patient, MRI was better than or equal to CT in defining the anatomic extent of the tumor. We could determine whether major vascular structures were engulfed by the tumor in 80% of the MRI examinations but only in 62% of the CT scans. MRI and CT were equally effective in determining the presence or absence of bony invasion. The MRI images of all the tumors showed increased signal intensity relative to normal muscle when spin-echo (SE) sulse sequences with long repeat times were used (SE: echo time [TE], 60 ms; repetition time [TR], 2,000 ms). When T1 weighted pulse sequences were used (SE: TE, 30 ms; TR, 500 ms or inversion recovery: inversion time, 500 ms; TE, 40 ms; TR, 2,000 ms) the malignant tumors showed decreased signal intensity compared to normal muscle. Only lipomas showed high signal intensity on both T1 and T2 weighted pulse sequences.  相似文献
