In this paper, we illustrate how data envelopment analysis (DEA) can be used to aid interactive classification. We assume that the scoring function for the classification problem is known. We use DEA to identify difficult to classify cases from a database and present them to the decision-maker one at a time. The decision-maker assigns a class to the presented case and based on the decision-maker class assignment, a tradeoff cutting plane is drawn using the scoring function and decision-maker’s input. The procedure continues for finite number of iterations and terminates with the final discriminant function. We also show how a hybrid DEA and mathematical programming approach can be used when user interaction is not desired. For non-interactive case, we compare a hybrid DEA and mathematical programming based approach with several statistical and machine learning approaches, and show that the hybrid approach provides competitive performance when compared to the other machine learning approaches. 相似文献

We present a method for constructing an orthonormal basis for a symmetry class of tensors from an orthonormal basis of the underlying vector space. The basis so obtained is not composed of decomposable symmetrized tensors. Indeed, we show that, for symmetry classes of tensors whose associated character has degree higher than one, it is impossible to construct an orthogonal basis of decomposable symmetrized tensors from any basis of the underlying vector space. This article summarizes the basic concepts of multiplication and provides some evidence that the traditional third‐grade curriculum and instruction emphasizing memorization of multiplication facts produces much less understanding of the basic concepts of multiplication than a standards‐based curriculum and instruction emphasizing construction of number sense and meaning for operations. Although creativity is often viewed as being associated with the notions of “genius” or exceptional ability, it can be productive for mathematics educators to view creativity instead as an orientation or disposition toward mathematical activity that can be fostered broadly in the general school population. In this article, it is argued that inquiry-oriented mathematics instruction which includes problem-solving and problem-posing tasks and activities can assist students to develop more creative approaches to mathematics. Through the use of such tasks and activities, teachers can increase their students’ capacity with respect to the core dimensions of creativity, namely, fluency, flexibility, and novelty. Because the instructional techniques discussed in this article have been used successfully with students all over the world, there is little reason to believe that creativity-enriched mathematics instruction cannot be used with a broad range of students in order to increase their representational and strategic fluency and flexibility, and their appreciation for novel problems, solution methods, or solutions. 相似文献
