Electrocatalytic reduction of a series of chemical oxidants of different power (tert-butyl hydroperoxide, potassium peroxomonosulfate, peracetic acid, and m-chloroperbenzoic acid) at iron-porphyrin-modified graphite electrodes is studied in buffered aqueous solutions by rotating disk and ring-disk voltammetry. Both ferric and ferrous porphyrins are catalytically active. Turnover of ferric catalysts is slower than that of the ferrous analogues and involves competing catalytic reduction and disproportionation. The kinetic data are consistent with reactant binding being the rate-determining step in catalysis by Fe(III). In catalysis by Fe(II), the turnover is controlled by the first electron transfer. The covalently linked proximal imidazole ligand is found to be crucial for achieving the Fe(III) catalysis.  相似文献

The use of click chemistry reactions for the functionalization of nanoparticles is particularly useful to modify the surface in a well‐defined manner and to enhance the targeting properties, thus facilitating clinical translation. Here it is demonstrated that olefin metathesis can be used for the chemoselective functionalization of iron oxide nanoparticles with three different examples. This approach enables, in one step, the synthesis and functionalization of different water‐stable magnetite‐based particles from oleic acid‐coated counterparts. The surface of the nanoparticles was completely characterized showing how the metathesis approach introduces a large number of hydrophilic molecules on their coating layer. As an example of the possible applications of these new nanocomposites, a focus was taken on atherosclerosis plaques. It is also demonstrated how the in vitro properties of one of the probes, particularly its Ca2+‐binding properties, mediate their final in vivo use; that is, the selective accumulation in atherosclerotic plaques. This opens promising new applications to detect possible microcalcifications associated with plaque vulnerability. The accumulation of the new imaging tracers is demonstrated by in vivo magnetic resonance imaging of carotids and aorta in the ApoE?/? mouse model and the results were confirmed by histology.  相似文献

Monitoring ambient solar UVR levels provides information on how much there is in both real time and historically. Quality assurance of ambient measurements of solar UVR is critical to ensuring accuracy and stability and this can be achieved by regular intercomparisons of spectral measurement systems with those of other organizations. In October and November of 2013 a solar UVR spectroradiometer from Public Health England (PHE) was brought to Melbourne for a campaign of intercomparisons with a new Bentham spectrometer of Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA) and one at the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM), supported by New Zealand's National Institute for Water and Atmosphere (NIWA). Given all three spectroradiometers have calibrations that are traceable to various national standards, the intercomparison provides a chance to determine measurement uncertainties and traceability that support UV measurement networks in Australia, New Zealand and the UK. UV Index measurements from all three systems were compared and ratios determined for clear sky conditions when the scans from each instrument were within 2 min of each other. While wavelengths below 305 nm showed substantial differences between the PHE unit and the two other systems, overall the intercomparison results were encouraging, with mean differences in measured UV Index between the BOM/NIWA and those of PHE and ARPANSA of <0.1% and 7.5%, respectively.  相似文献

Under the influence of previously published and some new theoretical results, potential‐ dependent adsorption and desorption of model electroinactive surfactants Triton X‐100 (T‐X‐100 or polyethylene glycol p‐(1,1,3,3‐tetramethylbutyl)‐phenyl ether) and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) on the static mercury drop electrode (SMDE) were studied by square‐wave voltammetry (SWV). Although (according to the theory) the resulting current – potential curve should consist of two highly separated peaks, only desorption signal could be seen on each experimentally obtained voltammogram, most probably because of the limitations concerning the available potential range. Different properties of the recorded peak are in good agreement with the theory indicating that square‐wave voltammetry could be treated as a potential tool for tensammetric studies of electroinactive surface active substances.  相似文献

X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF) and Raman spectroscopy have been used to examine 15th century mediaeval and 16th century renaissance vault paintings in the Our Lady's Cathedral (Antwerp, Belgium) in view of their restoration. The use of mobile instruments made it possible to work totally non-destructively. This complementary approach yields information on the elemental (XRF) and on the molecular composition (Raman) of the pigments. For the 15th century vault painting the pigments lead–tin yellow (Pb2SnO4), lead white (2PbCO3·Pb(OH)2), vermilion (HgS), massicot (PbO) and azurite (2CuCO3·Cu(OH)2) could be identified. The pigments used for the 16th century vault painting could be identified as red lead (Pb3O4), hematite (Fe2O3), lead white (2PbCO3·Pb(OH)2) and azurite (2CuCO3·Cu(OH)2). For both paintings the presence of the strong Raman scatterer calcite (CaCO3) resulted in a difficult identification of the pigments by Raman spectroscopy. The presence of gypsum (CaSO4·2H2O) on the mediaeval vault painting probably indicates that degradation took place.  相似文献

The main principles of C. pulchellum (Sw.) Druce, secoiridoid glycosides, have been studied as potent bioactive compounds. Here we scored their content in extracts of ten populations of this species. Antibacterial and antifungal assays of the extracts and pure secoiridoid glycosides were performed against eight bacterial strains and five fungal species. Methanol extracts from both aerial parts and roots exhibited excellent antibacterial (0.05-0.2 mg mL(-1)) and very good antifungal (0.1-2 mg mL(-1)) activity. Pure secoiridoid glycosides isolated from these extracts demonstrated very strong antibacterial (0.01-0.04 mg mL(-1)) and especially antifungal (0.001-0.1 mg mL(-1)) activity.  相似文献

A fast and sensitive method for the simultaneous determination of Sudan dyes (I, II, III, and IV) in food samples was developed for the first time using partial filling micellar electrokinectic chromatography-mass spectrometry (MEKC-MS). The use of MEKC was essential to achieve the separation of these neutral analytes, while the partial filling technique was necessary to avoid the contamination of the ion source with non-volatile micelles. MEKC separation and MS detection conditions were optimized in order to achieve a fast, efficient, and sensitive separation of the four dyes. Filling 25% of the capillary with an MEKC solution containing 40 mM ammonium bicarbonate, 25 mM SDS, and 32.5% (v/v) acetonitrile, a baseline separation of the four azo-dyes was obtained in 10 min. Tandem MS was investigated in order to improve the sensitivity and selectivity of the analysis. Limits of detection (LOD) values 5, 8, 15, and 29 times better were obtained for Sudan III, I, II, and IV, respectively, using partial filling MEKC-MS/MS instead of partial filling MEKC-MS. Under optimized conditions, LOD from 0.05 to 0.2 μg/mL were obtained. The suitability of the developed method was demonstrated through the fast and sensitive determination of Sudan I, II, III, and IV in spiked chilli powder samples. This determination could not be achieved by MEKC-UV due to the existence of several interfering compounds from the matrix.  相似文献

This article describes an emerging method for quantitative measurement and spatial imaging of microviscosity within individual domains of live cells. The method is based on fluorescence detection from small synthetic molecules termed 'molecular rotors', which are characterised by a strong response of fluorescence lifetimes or spectra to the viscosity of their immediate environment. Alongside this new method, two complementary techniques are discussed, which provide further insights into diffusion controlled processes on a microscopic scale in a biological environment. These are time resolved fluorescence anisotropy and imaging of short-lived excited state of molecular oxygen, termed 'singlet oxygen'. It is possible to utilise all three approaches for the quantitative determination of viscosity in individual organelles of live cells. Finally, it is discussed how the major advantage of molecular rotor imaging, fast signal acquisition, can be used to monitor changing viscosity during dynamic biological processes within cells, such as photoinduced cell death.  相似文献

Biphasic solid state composites of the type metal/metal oxide or element/element oxide can be synthesized in one pot chemical reactions using so called molecular "single source precursors". Due to their singular genesis these composites show peculiar hetero-structures based on core-shell hierarchies such as superlattices and composite nanospheres or nanowires. They exhibit superior or new functional properties compared to their individual constituent compounds. In the current work, we review in particular the synthetical and mechanistical approach of bi-phasic (Al/Al(2)O(3)) nanostructures such as nanospheres, nanowires and nanoloops using a single source precursor. Other bi-phasic materials of the general formula M/MO(x) (for example M = Ge, Sn, Pb) are addressed for comparison. The impact of different synthetical conditions as well as of modification of surfaces by laser techniques and their technological relevance are presented briefly. Additionally, functional applications of the prepared surfaces are explained with some outstanding case studies. These case studies are primarily concerned with their use as biomaterials and their application in medicine as well as with their use as thin films for optics and functional surfaces.  相似文献
