High-resolution microwave frequency transfer over an 86-km-long optical fiber network using a mode-locked laser

We demonstrate the transfer of an ultrastable microwave frequency by transmitting a 30-nm-wide optical frequency comb from a mode-locked laser over 86?km of installed optical fiber. The pulse train is returned to the transmitter via the same fiber for compensation of environmentally induced optical path length changes. The fractional transfer stability measured at the remote end reaches 4×10(-17) after 1600?s, corresponding to a timing jitter of 64?fs.     

Compact,convex sets in R n and a new banach lattice. I.- Theory.

The present paper shows that compact, non-empty convex sets in R ⁿ form a wedge in a well-defined Banach lattice, which turns out to be isometrically Riesz-isomorphic to the continuous functions in S ^n–1, the unit sphere of R ⁿ . Among other results, we obtain Dini-like convergence results for sets, linking order- and norm-convergence.     

Hydrogenic systems,frequency standards and fundamental constants

Hydrogenic (two-body) systems are the only atomic systems for which uncertainties in calculations of the energy levels approach the current state of the art in frequency measurement. This article discusses progress in the theory and measurement of transition frequencies in hydrogenic systems. These studies have relevance to the determination of fundamental constants and the testing of physical theories, especially quantum electrodynamics. A set of high accuracy calculable frequency standards could also be realized by using hydrogenic systems.     

N2 broadening parameters of ozone at 9.6 μm

The N₂ broadening parameters for approx. 150 lines of ozone (mainly v₃ transitions) in the 9.6 μm region have been measured from spectra taken with 0.005 cm^-1 resolution.     

An efficient assembly of heterobenzazepine ring systems utilizing an intramolecular palladium-catalyzed cycloamination

Azaheterocyclic compounds are interesting and medicinally relevant targets. Herein we disclose an improved synthesis into the oxazepine and thiazepine ring systems. The key step in the synthesis exploits recent advancements in the palladium-catalyzed amination reaction, which was utilized to form the seven-membered rings. General conditions for this reaction were Pd2dba3, P(t-Bu)3, NaO-t-Bu alone or with K2CO3, in toluene. The scope of the reaction was investigated, and has been shown to be effective on a variety of substrates as illustrated.
