The T1←S0 absorption spectrum of 4H-pyran-4-thione (PT) was measured in a static cell at room temperature (550-620 nm) and in a seeded cold supersonic jet (580-600 nm) using the cavity ring-down (CRD) method. In the static cell absolute extinction coefficients were determined between 573 and 610 nm with an accuracy of ∼±5%. In this region 22 harmonic sequences and 18 hot bands were observed. The energetically lowest ground state vibration at 167.5 cm−1 was identified as the promoting mode in the static PT gas. The mode in the triplet state was found at 152.3 cm−1. The CRD absorption spectra of static PT gas and jet-cooled PT are compared with the phosphorescence excitation spectrum of isolated PT. The weak S1, 0←S0, 0 absorption was tentatively assigned to a transition at ∼17433 cm−1.  相似文献

Protein separations in CZE suffer from nonspecific adsorption of analytes to the capillary surface. Semipermanent phospholipid bilayers have been used to minimize adsorption, but must be regenerated regularly to ensure reproducibility. We investigated the formation, characterization, and use of hybrid phospholipid bilayers (HPBs) as more stable biosurfactant capillary coatings for CZE protein separations. HPBs are formed by covalently modifying a support with a hydrophobic monolayer onto which a self‐assembled lipid monolayer is deposited. Monolayers prepared in capillaries using 3‐cyanopropyldimethylchlorosilane (CPDCS) or n‐octyldimethylchlorosilane (ODCS) yielded hydrophobic surfaces with lowered surface free energies of 6.0 ± 0.3 or 0.2 ± 0.1 mJ m?2, respectively, compared to 17 ± 1 mJ m?2 for bare silica capillaries. HPBs were formed by subsequently fusing vesicles comprised of 1,2‐dilauroyl‐sn‐glycero‐3‐phosphocholine or 1,2‐dioleoyl‐sn‐glycero‐3‐phosphocholine to CPDCS‐ or ODCS‐modified capillaries. The resultant HPB coatings shielded the capillary surface and yielded reduced electroosmotic mobility (1.3–1.9 × 10?4 cm2 V?1s?1) compared to CPDCS‐ and ODCS‐modified or bare capillaries (3.6 ± 0.2 × 10?4 cm2 V?1s?1, 4.8 ± 0.4 × 10?4 cm2 V?1s?1, and 6.0 ± 0.2 × 10?4 cm2 V?1s?1, respectively), with increased stability compared to phospholipid bilayer coatings. HPB‐coated capillaries yielded reproducible protein migration times (RSD ≤ 3.6%, n ≥ 6) with separation efficiencies as high as 200 000 plates/m.  相似文献

Several methods of producing NMR images are discussed and examples of biological application are given. The discussion emphasizes spin density projections as an introduction to the new method of echo-planar imaging, which is fully described. An example showing the first picture produced by this method is presented. The problems of scaling up medical imaging experiments to whole-body size are also discussed and the type of image expected from such experiments is anticipated by constructing cross-sectional water content maps of a human subject.  相似文献

In this paper we study symmetry reductions and exact solutions of the shallow water wave (SWW) equation $$u_{xxxt} + \alpha u_x u_{xt} + \beta u_t u_{xx} - u_{xt} - u_{xx} = 0,$$ whereα andβ are arbitrary, nonzero, constants, which is derivable using the so-called Boussinesq approximation. Two special cases of this equation, or the equivalent nonlocal equation obtained by settingu x =U, have been discussed in the literature. The caseα=2β was discussed by Ablowitz, Kaup, Newell and Segur (Stud. Appl. Math.,53 (1974), 249), who showed that this case was solvable by inverse scattering through a second-order linear problem. This case and the caseα=β were studied by Hirota and Satsuma (J. Phys. Soc. Japan,40 (1976), 611) using Hirota's bi-linear technique. Further, the caseα=β is solvable by inverse scattering through a third-order linear problem. In this paper, a catalogue of symmetry reductions is obtained using the classical Lie method and the nonclassical method due to Bluman and Cole (J. Math. Mech,18 (1969), 1025). The classical Lie method yields symmetry reductions of (1) expressible in terms of the first, third and fifth Painlevé transcendents and Weierstrass elliptic functions. The nonclassical method yields a plethora of exact solutions of (1) withα=β which possess a rich variety of qualitative behaviours. These solutions all like a two-soliton solution fort < 0 but differ radically fort > 0 and may be viewed as a nonlinear superposition of two solitons, one travelling to the left with arbitrary speed and the other to the right with equal and opposite speed. These families of solutions have important implications with regard to the numerical analysis of SWW and suggests that solving (1) numerically could pose some fundamental difficulties. In particular, one would not be able to distinguish the solutions in an initial-value problem since an exponentially small change in the initial conditions can result in completely different qualitative behaviours. We compare the two-soliton solutions obtained using the nonclassical method to those obtained using the singular manifold method and Hirota's bi-linear method. Further, we show that there is an analogous nonlinear superposition of solutions for two (2+1)dimensional generalisations of the SWW Equation (1) withα=β. This yields solutions expressible as the sum of two solutions of the Korteweg-de Vries equation.  相似文献

Based on the law of error propagation, a general expression is derived to study theoretically the hydrodynamically limited precision associated with each single element of fluid in a concentration profile in flow injection analysis. Convolution of the injection and residence time distribution functions is used to obtain response functions for a homogeneously stirred mixing chamber and for a straight capillary tube. The effects of stochastic variations on overall precision by sample introduction, pumping and timing are elucidated and compared with experimental findings. Resulting practical implications for the use of these two dispersing elements are outlined.  相似文献

We do mean-field perturbation theory for U(1) lattice gauge theory in the axial gauge, and evaluate corrections from fluctuations up to fourth order for the free energy and plaquette energy. Comparing with similar results previously obtained in the Feynman gauge we find, to those orders studied, a gauge dependence of the size of the first correction term neglected with one exception. This gauge dependence decreases rapidly as the order of the approximation is increased. To any finite order, results in axial gauge are better approximations than results in the Feynman gauge. We speculate why. Assuming it to be generally true, we evaluate the first correction beyond the one-loop mean-field approximation to the free energy of SU(2) gauge theory with Wilson action in the axial gauge. This correction brings the mean-field result very close to Monte Carlo results for β > 1.6. It also makes the mean-field result identical, within a narrow margin, to ressumed strong coupling results in the interval 1.6 < β < 2.4, thus showing the absence of a phase transition.For both groups studied, we find that the asymptotic series of mean-field perturbation theory give much better approximations than do ordinary weak coupling series.  相似文献
