Condensed cyclic and bridged-ring systems : part 12: A novel synthetic route to 4-p-methoxyphenyl-bicyclo[ 2.2.2 ]octan-2-ones and some bicyclo [ 3.2.1 ] octane derivatives by acid-catalyzed intramolecula

The efficacy of a new acid-catalyzed intramolecular C-alkylation has been demonstrated by the synthesis of 1-methyl-4-$\text{p}$-methoxyphenylbicyclo [2.2.2] octan-2-one ($\text{5}$) and 4-$\text{p}$-methoxyphenylbicyclo [2.2.2] octan-2-one ($\text{6}$) from easily accessible starting materials. The carbinol $\text{20}$, derived from $\text{5}$, undergoes facile rearrangement leading to 1-$\text{p}$-methoxyphenyl-4-methyl bicyclo [3.2.1] oct-3-ene ($\text{22}$), which has been transformed to $\text{endo}$-1-$\text{p}$-methoxyphenyl-4-methylbicyclo [3.2.1] octan-3-one ($\text{25}$).

Effect of Cold Atmospheric Plasma Jet and Gamma Radiation Treatments on Gingivobuccal Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Breast Adenocarcinoma Cells

Surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, the conventional treatment modalities of cancer though successful are limited by presence of residual tumor cells, toxic side-effects and treatment resistance, thus raising the need for investigating other novel approaches. Here, we have used a cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) jet and assessed the in vitro efficacy in gingivobuccal squamous cell carcinoma (GB-SCC) – ITOC-03, breast adenocarcinoma—MCF7 and HEK293 cells. Cells lines were subjected to varying doses of ionizing radiation (0, 2, 4, 6, 8 Gy) and CAP jet treatment (0, 60, 180, 240, 300 s). CAP jet treatment showed time dependent increase in H₂O₂ and NO₂^? concentration. Cell viability assay showed potent effect of CAP jet on all three cell lines in comparison to radiation treatment, while helium gas treatment showed minimal inhibitory effect. Irradiated, CAP jet and helium gas treated cells showed loss of nucleic acid features, 788 cm^?1 and 1340 cm^?1 in Raman spectra, indicating DNA damage. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) showed distinct classification of CAP-treated and control cells, while Principal Component – Linear Discriminant Analysis (PC-LDA) based classification of Raman spectra showed ITOC-03 and HEK293 cells to be sensitive to CAP jet and radiation treatment in comparison to MCF7 cells. Collectively, cell viability assay and Raman spectroscopy have shown potent effect of CAP jet in GB-SCC and breast adenocarcinoma cells.

     

Lewis acid-mediated highly regioselective SN2-Type ring-opening of 2-aryl-N-tosylazetidines and aziridines by alcohols

Lewis acid-mediated highly regioselective SN2-type ring-opening of 2-aryl-N-tosylazetidines with alcohols to afford various 1,3-amino ethers in excellent yields with good enantiomeric excess is described. Similar SN2-type ring-opening of chiral 2-phenyl-N-tosylaziridine with various alcohols produces the corresponding nonracemic 1,2-amino ethers in excellent yields and good ee. The mechanism of the ring-opening of aziridines and azetidines via an SN2 pathway is supported by the formation of nonracemic amino ethers.

Mixed chelates of some trivalent lanthanide ions containing (trans-1,2-cyclhexylenedinitrilo)tetraacetate and norleucinate

Summary Formation constants of mixed chelates with (trans-1,2-cyclohexylenedinitrilo)tetra-acetate (DCTA) as primary ligand and norleucinate (nle) as secondary ligand with metal ions La(III), Ce(III), Pr(III), Sm(III), Gd(III), Tb(III), Dy(III), Er(III), and Yb(III) have been determined by the modified potentiometricpH titration method of Irving-Rossotti in aqueous medium at (295±1) K and fixed ionic strength of =0.1M (NaClO₄). Formation constants of binary complexes of the metal ions with the secondary ligand have also been determined under identical conditions. The mixed chelates were found to be more stable than the binary ones. The order of stabilities in terms of metal ions is La(III)Gd(III)

Gemischte Chelate einiger dreiwertiger Lanthanidenionen mit (trans-1,2-Cyclohexylendinitril)tetraacetat und Norleucinat

Zusammenfassung Es wurden die Komplexbildungskonstanten gemischter Chelate mit (trans-1,2-Cyclohexylendinitril)tetraacetat als Primärkomponente und Norleucinat als Sekundärkomponente mit den Metallionen La(III), Ce(III), Pr(III), Sm(III), Gd(III), Tb(III), Dy(III), Er(III) und Yb(III) mittels einer modifizierten potentiometrischen Titrationsmethode nach Irving-Rossotti in wäßrigem Medium bei (295±1) K und einer konstanten Ionenstärke von =0.1M (NaClO₄) bestimmt. Die Bildungskonstanten der binären Komplexe der Metallionen mit dem Sekundärliganden wurden ebenfalls unter identen Bedingungen bestimmt. Es wurde festgestellt, daß die gemischten Chelate stabiler sind als die binären. Die Stabilitätsreihenfolge bezüglich der Metallionen ist La(III)Gd(III)     

Dihedral angle study in Hesperidin using NMR Spectroscopy

Hesperidin is flavonoid molecule found in citrus fruits (Citrus reticulata), especially difficult to extract, classify and characterize. Present work is to study the unresolved relative configuration of Hesperidin through the dihedral angle, coupling constant and different NMR techniques. The Karplus equation and its modifications have been originated from the valence bond theory and associated with dihedral angle and coupling constant. The result data set of calculated dihedral angle can probe significant method to assign the virtual configuration of natural products and also resolved stereochemistry of Hesperidin at C‐2 position in. Molecular inversion in the nπ* states: A theoretical investigation of some model systems in a semiempirical molecular orbital framework

The considerations of Walsh rules are extended to rationalize the loss of planarity in the ^1,3nπ* states of simple carbonyl and thiocarbonyl molecules. The role of Fermi correlation in shaping the differences between conformations in the singlet and the triplet state is emphasized. The role played by the π* orbital is also considered.
