The modification of different zirconium propoxide and hafnium propoxide precursors with 2,2,6,6,-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedione (Hthd) was investigated by characterization of the isolated modified species. The complexes [Zr(OnPr)3(thd)](2), [Zr(OnPr)(OiPr)2(thd)]2, Zr(OiPr)(thd)3, [Hf(OnPr)3(thd)]2, and Hf(OiPr)(thd)3 were isolated and characterized. The structure of the n-propoxide analogue of Zr(OiPr)(thd)3 could not be refined, but its existence was clearly demonstrated by XRD and 1H NMR. The modification of the propoxide precursors involves mono- and trisubstituted intermediate compounds and does not involve a disubstituted compound; thus, the commercial product that is claimed to be "Zr(OiPr)2(thd)2" and is most commonly used for the MOCVD preparation of ZrO2 does not exist. No evidence was found for the presence of such a compound in either zirconium- or hafnium-based systems. Formation of the dimeric hydroxo-di-thd-substituted complex, [Hf(OH)(OiPr)(thd)2]2, which could be isolated only for hafnium-based systems, occurs on microhydrolysis. All heteroleptic intermediates are eventually transformed to the thermodynamically stable Zr(thd)4 or Hf(thd)4) The compounds obtained from isopropoxide precursors showed a higher stability than those with n-propoxide ligands or a combination of both types. In addition, it is important to note that residual alcohol facilitates the transformation and strongly enhances its rate. The unusually low solubility and volatility of MIV(thd)4 has been shown to be due to close packing and strong van der Waals interactions in the crystal structures of these compounds.  相似文献

The USDA-ARS National Plant Germplasm System (NPGS) maintains more than 200 Allium sativum (garlic) accessions at the Western Regional Plant Introduction Station in Pullman, WA. All accessions must be grown out in the field annually since garlic plants from these accessions do not reliably produce seeds and bulbs do not store well. Shoot tips excised from garlic cloves can be successfully cryopreserved using either Plant Vitrification Solution 2 (PVS2; 15 percent v/v DMSO, 15 percent v/v ethylene glycol, 30 percent v/w glycerol, 0.4 M sucrose) or Plant Vitrification Solution 3 (PVS3; 50 percent v/w sucrose, 50 percent v/w glycerol). We compared regrowth of shoot tips representing diverse garlic germplasm after exposure to either PVS2 or PVS3 during the cryopreservation procedure. At the USDA-ARS National Center for Genetic Resources Preservation, a component of the NPGS, we consider accessions successfully preserved if a minimum of 40 percent of explants exhibit regrowth after liquid nitrogen exposure and at least 60 viable shoot tips remain in long-term storage. Ten of twelve diverse garlic accessions were successfully cryopreserved using either PVS2 or PVS3 as cryoprotectants. Five genotypes had the best post liquid nitrogen regrowth after exposure to PVS2, four genotypes had the best regrowth after exposure to PVS3, and three genotypes performed equally well using either cryoprotectant solution. This project is part of an ongoing program to cryopreserve accessions of NPGS clonal crop collections.  相似文献

Polymer electrolyte has seen tremendous growth after works of Fenton & Armand, and energy devices are being produced at commercial level. Today’s social lifestyle needs miniaturized energy devices at every step of life; consequently, they add up to chemical garbage of the world. The sustainable development in the field needs eco-friendly energy devices. Hence, starch (being at low cost, abundant in nature and eco-friendly) has received great scientific attention. In recent past, many attempts have been made to modify the various starches to get fast ion-conducting materials. In our laboratory, also, wheat, potato, rice and arrowroot starches have been modified with different sodium salts, and in each case, considerably high-conducting (>10−3 S/cm) films have been found. In present case, also, a high-conducting transparent film (10−2 S/cm) is obtained with corn starch and NaClO4 salt after being crosslinked with glutaraldehyde (GA). Bode plots (both phase and magnitude), capacitive-response plot, capacitive-frequency plots and linear sweep voltammetry curves are analysed to explain the possibility of using the prepared electrolyte in capacitive device. The larger electrochemical stability window (ESW) ~ 2.4 V and smaller ion relaxation time ~ 65 μs make it a potential candidate for device fabrication. The equivalent series resistance is ~6.252 Ω for 0.8-mm-thick sample.

Poly[2-(methacryloyloxy)ethylphosphorylcholine]-coated SPIONs were prepared through ATRP and amidation coupling reactions. The coated SPIONs exhibited high stability and re-dispersability in phosphate buffered saline and uptake in a stem cell line, with high T(2) relaxivity.  相似文献

The efficiency of conventional techniques used to harvest energy in nuclear reactors lies around 35%. This limit exists, because the nuclear energy is converted to electrical energy via heat engines. We study an alternative approach where the kinetic energy of nuclear reaction products is directly converted into electric energy in a stack of charged capacitors with a gap size of 500 nm and graphene electrodes. Graphene is expected to be chemically and mechanically stable in high‐radiation environments, because its tensile strength of 130 GPa is very large, about 100 times larger than most metals. The dielectric strength of such nanocapacitors exceeds 1 GV/m, because avalanching is suppressed at small gap sizes. In a 1 GV/m electric field charged nuclear reaction products, such as 5.6 MeV alpha particles, come to rest in of a stack with 5000 nanocapacitors. We show that during the deceleration process more than 90% of kinetic energy of charged nuclear reaction products is converted to electric energy and stored as electric energy in the stack. Each stack is 2.5‐mm thick and produces a high‐voltage DC current. A device with a 1‐Ci241Am source is expected to generate 22 mW of electric power.  相似文献

This article analyzes the use of the software Grid Algebra with a mixed ability class of 21 nine-to-ten-year-old students who worked with complex formal notation involving all four arithmetic operations. Unlike many other models to support learning, Grid Algebra has formal notation ever present and allows students to “look through” that notation and interpret it either in terms of physical journeys on a grid or in terms of mathematical operations. A dynamic fluidity was found between the formal notation, imagery of movements on a grid, and the process of mathematical operations. This fluidity is interpreted as a “dance” between these three. The significant way in which this dynamic took place reflects the scaffolding and fading offered by the software, which was crucial to the students’ fluency with formal notation well beyond what has been reported from students of that age.  相似文献
