David Hilbert (1862-1943) played an important role in establishing quantum physics in Göttingen. I analyze the ways in which his influence was decisive by comparison with Woldemar Voigt (1850-1919). Voigt was the leading Göttingen theoretical physicist before the arrival of Peter Debye (1884-1966), who was appointed to a new professorship in 1914 at Hilbert's instigation. I portray the Göttingen mathematicians, above all Hermann Minkowski (1864-1909) and David Hilbert, as planting the seeds for the blossoming of quantum physics under their student Max Born (1882-1970) in the 1920s. 相似文献

The effect of the shear flow on the thickness change of a polyelectrolyte membrane grafted onto a glass substrate was directly investigated with a flow cell combined with a confocal laser scanning microscope. The membrane thickness decreased proportionally to an increase in the shear stress of the flow when the shear rate exceeded a critical value of 1 s?1. The higher the ionic strength was of the fluid, the greater the thinning effect was. The selfconsistent diagram approximation (SCDA) is generalized for three-dimensional lattice gases with nearest neighbor repulsive
interactions. The free energy is represented in a closed form through elementary functions. Thermodynamical (phase diagrams,
chemical potential and mean square fluctuations), structural (order parameter, distribution functions) as well as diffusional
characteristics are investigated. The calculation results are compared with the Monte Carlo simulation data to demonstrate
high precision of the SCDA in reproducing the equilibrium lattice gas characteristics. It is shown that similarly to two-dimensional
systems the specific statistical memory effects strongly influence the lattice gas diffusion in the ordered states.

The effect of the removal of zinc from brass nanoparticles has been experimentally discovered upon irradiating their suspension in ethanol by laser radiation. The analysis of the absorption spectra of nanoparticles shows that brass nanoparticles are transformed to copper nanoparticles during irradiation. The results are interpreted in terms of the high-pressure-induced modification of the phase diagram of nanoparticles. This pressure is caused by, first, the small radius of nanoparticles and, second, the pressure of the surrounding-liquid vapors upon the laser heating of nanoparticles. 相似文献

We define a class of topological spaces ( LCNT spaces ) which come together with a nuclear Fréchet algebra. Like the algebra of smooth functions on a manifold, this algebra carries the differential structure of the object. We compute the Hochschild homology of this algebra and show that it is isomorphic to the space of differential forms. An “almost diagonal” reduced density matrix (in coordinate representation) is usually a result of environment induced decherence
and is considered the sign of classical behavior. We show that the proton of a ground state hydrogen atom can indeed possess
such a density matrix. This example demonstrates that the “almost diagonal” structure may be derived from an interaction with
a low number of degrees of freedom which play the role of the environment. We also show that decoherence effects in our example
can only be observed if the interaction with the measuring device is significantly faster than the interaction with the environment
(the electron). In the opposite case, when the interaction with the environment is significant during the measurement process,
coherence is maintained. Finally, we propose a neutron scattering experiment on cold He atoms to observe decoherence which
shows up as an additional positive contribution to the differential scattering cross section. This contribution is inversely
