Cell death plays a central role in normal physiology and in disease. Common to apoptotic and necrotic cell death is the eventual loss of plasma membrane integrity. We have produced a small organoarsenical compound, 4-(N-(S-glutathionylacetyl)amino)phenylarsonous acid, that rapidly accumulates in the cytosol of dying cells coincident with loss of plasma membrane integrity. The compound is retained in the cytosol predominantly by covalent reaction with the 90 kDa heat shock protein (Hsp90), the most abundant molecular chaperone of the eukaryotic cytoplasm. The organoarsenical was tagged with either optical or radioisotope reporting groups to image cell death in cultured cells and in murine tumors ex vivo and in situ. Tumor cell death in mice was noninvasively imaged by SPECT/CT using an (111)In-tagged compound. This versatile compound should enable the imaging of cell death in most experimental settings.  相似文献

Subitising, a quick apprehension of the numerosity of a small set of items, has been found to change from an individual's reliance on perceptual to conceptual processes. In this study, we utilised a constructivist teaching experiment methodology to investigate how the subitising activity of one preschool student, Amy, related to her construction of prenumerical units. Subitising and counting tasks were designed to assess and perturb Amy's thinking relative to her construction of units, and to observe changes in Amy's activity associated with the different tasks. Findings indicate that as Amy's subitising activity changed from perceptual to conceptual, she constructed subitised motor units and subitised figurative units. Implications of this study suggest that the construction of subitised units may support young children's later development of arithmetic units.  相似文献

We give a new construction of the holonomy groupoid of a regular foliation in terms of a partial connection on a diffeological principal bundle of germs of transverse parametrisations, which may be viewed as a systematisation of Winkelnkemper’s original construction using ideas from gauge theory. We extend these ideas to construct a novel holonomy groupoid for any foliated bundle, which we prove sits at the top of a hierarchy of diffeological jet holonomy groupoids associated with the foliated bundle. This shows that while the Winkelnkemper holonomy groupoid is the smallest Lie groupoid that integrates a foliation, it is far from the smallest diffeological groupoid that does so.

We propose a general theory of the spin-transfer effects that occur when current flows through inhomogeneous magnetic systems. Our theory does not rest on an appeal to conservation of total spin, can assess whether or not current-induced magnetization precession and switching in a particular geometry will occur coherently, and can estimate the efficacy of spin-transfer when spin-orbit interactions are present. We illustrate our theory by applying it to a toy-model twodimensional-electron-gas ferromagnet with Rashba spin-orbit interactions.  相似文献

We have investigated the feasibility of using a barium titanate crystal as a unidirectional device. The nonlinear interaction between a beam and its own reflection from the back face of the crystal causes an effective increase or decrease in the transmission through the crystal, depending on whether the incident beam propagates along or against the crystal c-axis, respectively. This effect was investigated for several wavelengths and compared with theory. It is possible to make a device that has an average transmission of ≈94% and a transmission asymmetry of 1% by using a crystal whose front and back faces are cut so that their normals are at angle of ≈30° to the crystal c-axis.  相似文献

Energies and lorentzian widths of pionic K X-ray transitions have been measured in liquid 3He with improved accuracy. The strong interaction on the π3He 1s level is found to be attractive and to produce an increase in the K transition energies of 34 ± 4 eV; the measured lorentzian width is 36 ±7 eV. Measured values are also presented for K X-ray energies in liquid π4He and μ4He, the lorentzian width of the 1s level in π4He, and relative intensities of K X-ray transitions in π3He, π4He and μ4He. The measurements are compared with those of others and with recent theoretical calculations.  相似文献
