Bremsstrahlung in electron-positronium scattering

The spectrum of radiation formed in the fast nonrelativistic electron scattering on positronium is calculated. It is shown that all the radiation proceeds via virtual positronium deformations during the collision. An essential difference of bremsstrahlung spectra in electron on positronium and electron on hydrogen scattering is demonstrated.     

Dramatic nondipole effects in low-energy photoionization: experimental and theoretical study of Xe 5s

The Xe 5s nondipole photoelectron parameter gamma is obtained experimentally and theoretically from threshold to approximately 200 eV photon energy. Significant nondipole effects are seen even in the threshold region of this valence shell photoionization. In addition, contrary to previous understanding, clear evidence of interchannel coupling among quadrupole photoionization channels is found.     

On the existence of a collective level in the Xe-atom

Calculations on the basis of the generalized random phase approximation with exchange permit to describe satisfactorily the experimental data available on Xe photoionization in the energy region ω ≈ Z Ry and do not confirm the recent prediction of the statistical model on the existence of a specific atomic collective dipole level.     

Qualitative modification of the high energy atomic photoionization cross section

It is demonstrated that the nonrelativistic high energy omega-->infinity behavior of the photoionization cross section of an nl atomic subshell, sigma(nl)(omega), for l>0 is independent of l and is given by sigma(nl)(omega) approximately 1/omega(9/2), rather than the previously generally accepted sigma(nl)(omega) approximately 1/omega(l+7/2). Furthermore, for l = 1, although the exponent does not change, the coefficient is significantly altered. This modification of sigma(nl)(omega) is due to the interchannel interaction between ns photoionization channels and l not equal0 channels in the atom. As a result, for the photoionization of l not equal0 electrons, the single-particle approximation is never correct in the omega-->infinity limit. This has important consequences for sum rule calculations.     

On the Bosonic Atoms

We investigate the ground state properties of atoms, in which substitute fermions—electrons by bosons, namely, π^?-mesons. We perform some calculations in the frame of modified Hartree–Fock (HF) equation. The modification takes into account symmetry, instead of antisymmetry of the pair identical bosons wavefunction. The modified HF approach thus enhances (doubles) the effect of self-action for the boson case. Therefore, we accordingly modify the HF equations by eliminating the self-action terms “by hand.” The contribution of meson–meson and meson–nucleon non-Coulomb interaction is inessential at least for atoms with low and intermediate nuclear charge, which is our main subject. We found that the binding energy of pion negative ions A_π^-, pion atoms A_π, and the number of extra bound pions ΔN_π increases with the nuclear charge Z. In particular, for Xe ΔN_π = 4. As an example of a simple process with a pion atom, we consider photoionization that differs essentially from that for electron atoms. Namely, it is not monotonic decreasing from the threshold but has instead a prominent maximum above threshold. We study also elastic scattering of pions by pion atoms.
