Confocal laser scanning microscopy has been used to obtain 3D optical image stacks of packings of glass ballotini in various fluorescent dye-containing fluids inside a 3D micromodel. The fluids' refractive index was matched to that of the glass ballotini so that clear images at an appreciable depth (approximately 400 microm) inside the packings were obtained. The lattice Boltzmann method was then used to produce 3D velocity fields through the 3D image stacks of the packed ballotini. These have been used in conjunction with a stochastic random-walk algorithm to produce simulated displacement propagators, which have been shown to be in qualitative agreement with experimental propagators, obtained using nuclear magnetic resonance, of water flowing through the exact same micromodel.  相似文献

Pulsed field gradient (PFG) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) is well established as a tool for determining emulsion droplet-size distributions via measurement of restricted self-diffusion. Most measurements made to date have not been spatially resolved, but have measured an average size distribution for a certain volume of emulsion. This paper demonstrates a rapid method of performing spatially resolved, restricted diffusion measurements, which enables emulsion droplet sizing to be spatially resolved as a function of radius in cylindrical geometries or pipes. This is achieved by the use of an Abel transform. The technique is demonstrated in various annular systems containing two emulsions, with different droplet-size distributions, and/or a pure fluid. It is also shown that by modifying the pulse sequence by the inclusion of flow-compensating magnetic field gradients, the technique can measure spatially resolved droplet-size distributions in flowing emulsions, with potential applications in spatially resolved on-line droplet-size analysis.  相似文献

Abstract— Photolysis with light of 2537 Å of a series of aliphatic dipeptides in the solid state has been shown to lead to bond rupture and free radical formation. The structures of the radicals have been determined by ESR techniques and in general, the free electron has been shown to reside on the carbon atom attached to the nitrogen atom of the peptide bond. Dipeptides containing phenylalanine residues show ESR spectra typical of the free amino-acid in the terminal position.  相似文献

This review focuses on the indirect photometric detection of anions and cations by capillary electrophoresis. Special emphasis has been placed on the sensitivity of the technique and approaches taken to enhance detection limits. Theoretical considerations and requirements have been discussed, including buffering, detection sensitivity, separation of cations, and detector linearity.
