Isolation of preparations with a high content of eicosapentaenoic acid from the red marine alga Palmaria stenogona

The composition is given of the fatty acids of the red marine algaPalmaria stenogona. The amount of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) in the alga was 69.9–77.0% of the total fatty acids. The procedure for isolating EPA of 80–90% purity from the alga is described which includes the saponification of the algal lipids, the selective extraction of the unsaponifiable lipids, the isolation of the free fatty acids, and their separation by the method of crystallizing inclusion complexes of the fatty acids with urea. Analyse conformationnelle a l'aide de la notation des angles de torsion—III: Controle conformationnel de certaines reactions de type sn2' ou sni' de derives cyclohexeniques faisant intervenir un deplacement allylique de l'olefine

To take place stereoselectively S_N2' reactions of cyclohexene derivatives require an axial leaving group either on a half-chair (suprafacial reaction) or on a 1,3-diplanar form or a boat (antarafacial reaction). These conclusions appear generally relevant to concerted reactions of cyclohexenic derivatives involving an allylic migration of the olefinic bond.     

On the magnetic properties and the phase composition of the Cr2O3?MnOx-system (2 ≥ x ≥ 1.5)

The mixed oxide system Cr₂O₃? MnO_x (2 ≥ x ≥ 1.5) was investigated by X-ray diffraction, by measurements of magnetic susceptibility, and by chemical determination of excess oxygen (BUNSEN'S method). The Presence of the antiferromagnetic oxides Cr₂O₃, β-MnO₂, α-Mn₂O₃ and a ferromagnetic phase Cr_1?yMn_yO₂ was stated. The formation of the latter with fourvalent chromium is explained by a lattice induction effect of the MnO₂ (rutile type).     

Crystal structure of oxotitanium(IV) 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedionate

The structure of titanyl dipivalylmethanate TiO(dpm)₂ has been studied by X-ray diffraction analysis. The compound has a molecular structure formed by isolated centrosymmetrical dimers [TiO(dpm)₂]₂; the unit cell contains two structurally related, crystallographically unique binuclear molecules. The Ti...Ti distance in the dimer is 2.73 Å. Crystal data for Ti₂C₃₆H₇₆O₁₀: a = 32.477(6) Å, b = 14.409(3) Å, c = 25.630(5) Å; β = 107.82(3)°, space group C2/c, Z = 8, d _calc = 1.002 g/cm³.     

Thermochemical investigations of some electrolytes in water-acetamide mixtures at 298.15 K

The enthalpies of solution of NaCl, KCl, KBr, KNO₃ and CsI have been measured in mixtures of acetamide with water at 298.15 K in the miscibility range. The standard enthalpies of solutions (ΔH⁰) of the investigated electrolytes have been evaluated The corresponding enthalpies of solvation (ΔH_s⁰) and enthalples of transfer (ΔH_t⁰) from water to water-acetamide mixtures have been calculated The dependence of the standard enthalpies of solution and enthalpies of transfer of the investigated electrolytes on the solvent composition is discussed

Temperature-programmed reduction and oxidation of bimetallic catalysts Pd–Ni/Al₂O₃ seem to indicate phase segregation of palladium and nickel oxides and alloying of palladium and nickel in the process of reduction of oxidized catalysts.

An optically active vinyl sulfoxide copolymer and the configuration of sulfoxide adjacent to radical or anionic sites

Optically active vinyl p-tolyl sulfoxide was synthesized and copolymerized with styrene to produce an optically active copolymer. The question of the configuration of sulfur in a sulfoxide when adjacent to a radical site is discussed. The configuration of sulfur in a sulfoxide is proven to be nonplanar when adjacent to an anionic site.     

Ring-chain tautomerism of substituted hydrazones

The freshly distilled products of the reaction of acetaldehyde with 2-(N-propylhydrazino)- and 2-(N-isopropylhydrazino)ethanols have substituted perhydro-1,3,4-oxadiazine structures and are isomerized to the corresponding N-alkyl-N-(2-hydroxyethyl)hydrazones via an equilibrium. Synthesis and reactions of β-(5-halo-3-uracyl) propionic acids

The reaction of elementary bromine and iodine with -(3-uracyl)-propionic acid has given the corresponding -(5-bromo-3-uracyl) and -(5-iodo-3-uracyl)propionic acids. The methyl esters and amides of the acids have also been synthesized for the first time.     

Synthese de s-triazolo[4,3-d] et [1,5-d] triazines-1,2,4

2-substituted s-triazolo[1,5-d] and 3-substituted s-triazolo [4,3-d]-1,2-4-triazine 8-ones were obtained starting from 5-(3)-alkyl-3(5)-carboxyhydrazino-1,2,4 triazoles and ethyl orthoformate. However, the same reaction was not found to be an efficient one in the case of 5(3)-β-D-ribofuranosyl-3(5)-carboxyhydrazino-1,2,4 triazole.
