DSC study of charge-transfer complexes of polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons with nitroaromatic acceptors

Charge-transfer, crystalline complexes of 1,3,5-trinitrobenzene (TNB), 2,4,7- trinitro-9-fluorenone (TNF). and 2,4,5,7-tetranitro-9-fluorenone (TENF) with eleven polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons were compared for thermal stability, ΔH and ΔS of melting. Factors possibly influencing the above parameters are discussed.Melting does not induce separation of the components; these complexes can be repeatedly crystallized and melted without variation of the ΔH of melting, thereby indicating high thermal stability.With a few exceptions, melting temperatures of the complexes increase in the order TNB<TNF<TENF: so do ΔH and ΔS of melting. A number of crystal transitions were observed.     

Structural features of zinc hydroxyfluoride

Zinc hydroxyfluoride (ZnOHF), obtained by coprecipitation of a zinc salt in aqueous HF, exhibits a variable stoichiometry Zn(OH)_2−xF_x, where x is tuneable from 0.63 to 0.87 by controlling the pH of the solution. The structure was determined from Rietveld refinements using X-ray powder diffraction data. Crystallizing with the orthorhombic symmetry (SG : Pna2₁), the ZnOHF-type structure exhibits two different anionic sites. A bond valence analysis shows that fluorine exclusively occupies the anionic site that has shorter contacts to zinc. This site is split into two partially occupied sites, one corresponding to the position of a fluoride ion and the other to the position of a hydroxide ion. Bond valence calculations show that the split site model gives a more accurate picture of the local coordination of the anions on this site.     

Evolution of Statistical Ensembles of Microdomains on the Surface of Films of Rigid-Chain Polyimide during Thermal Imidization

Statistical ensembles of microdomains formed on the surface of polyimide films based on pyromellitic dianhydride and 2,7-diaminofluorene during thermal imidization were described in terms of the model of reversible aggregation using the electron-microscopic data. Parameters of the statistical distribution were determined for each ensemble depending on the film heating temperature.     

Formation of Se0 Nanoparticles in an Aqueous Cationic Polyelectrolyte

The nanostructures formed by reduction of Se(IV) in the selenite-ascorbate redox system in an aqueous solution of supermacromolecular polycation, poly[trimethyl(methacryloyloxyethyl)ammonium] methyl sulfate, were studied by static and dynamic optical scattering and flow birefringence.     

A coated piezoelectric crystal detector for the selective detection and determination of hydrogen sulfide in the atmosphere

A method for the selective detection and determination of hydrogen sulfide in the atmosphere is presented. This method utilizes the reversible adsorption of H₂S on a piezoelectric quartz crystal coated with an acetone extract of soots resulting from the burning of organochlorine compounds. The extract of a soot prepared from chlorobenzoic acid provided the best substrate. The method is useful in the concentration range 1–60 ppm.     

Nouveaux thiochlorures de molybdène(II): Mo6Cl10Y (Y = S,Se, Te): Structure et propriétés magnétiques et électriques

The thiochlorides Mo₆Cl₁₀Y (Y = S, Se, Te) have been prepared; they are isostructural with Nb₆I₁₁, space group Pccn, and have four formula units per unit cell. The X-ray structure of Mo₆Cl₁₀Se has been determined from three-dimensional single-crystal counter data and refined to a final R value of 0.053 for 3350 independent reflections. The most important result concerning this structure is a statistical distribution of the Se atom on the unit (Mo₆X′₈) with $\text{X′ ?}\text{7}\text{8}\text{Cl}\text{+}\text{1}\text{8}\text{Se}$: so the compound Mo₆Cl₁₀Se must be formulated $\text{(Mo}{}_6\text{Cl}{}_7\text{Se)Cl}{}_{\mathrm{<mtext>4</mtext><mtext>2</mtext>}}\text{Cl}{}_{\mathrm{<mtext>2</mtext><mtext>2</mtext>}}$. The diamagnetic and dielectric behavior of these new thiochlorides is discussed.     

Formation of m- and p-xylenes during dehydrocyclization of n-octane on chromium oxide catalysts

Conclusions In the dehydrocyclization of n-octane the m- and p-xylenes are formed as a result of the isomerization of the carbon skeleton of the aliphatic intermediate products of the reaction, namely the octadienes and octatrienes.Deceased.Translated from Izvestiya Akademii Nauk SSSR, Seriya Khimicheskaya, No. 7, pp. 1675–1676, July, 1973.     

The Claisen-Schmidt reaction with heterocyclic analogs of o-hydroxyacetphenone

Claisen-Schmidt condensation of 4-hydroxy-3-acetyl-6-methylpyrid-2-one, and its N-methyl and N-phenyl derivatives with aromatic aldehydes is investigated, and it is shown that the products of this reaction are 3-cinnamoyl and not 6-styryl derivatives.
