Metallocene monomers and polymers. Ferrocenyl and ferrocenylene derivatives

The synthesis and study of some polyenes, polýiminoimides and Schiff polybases with ferrocene obtained by either polymerization or polycondensation are reported.The following monomers were used: ethynylferrocene, 1-chloro-1′-ethynyl-ferrocene, α-chloro-β-formyl-p-ferrocenylstyrene, p-ferrocenylphenylacetylene, p-ferrocenylacetophenone, 1,1′-diacetylferrocene and 1,1′-bis[β-(2-furyl)acryloyl]ferrocene which were characterized by spectral and thermodifferential analyses and Hückel MO calculations. The polymerization was performed in the presence of benzoyl and lauroyl peroxides, triisopropylboron and complex catalysts of [P(C₆H₅)₃]₂ NiX₂ type. The ferrocene derivatives were polycondensed with biuret, 4,4′-diaminodiphenyl ether, 4,4′-diaminodiphenyl thioether, 4,4′-diamino-2,2′-dinitrodiphenyl disulphide in the presence of metallic salts and p-toluene sulphonic acid as catalysts.Polymers with either linear or tridimensional structure showing good thermal stability and semiconducting properties have been obtained. Some polymers show catalytical activity in the polymerization of chloroformylated vinylic derivatives.     

An artificial ionophore based on a polyhydroxylated steroid dimer

The Na+ transporting properties of the first member of a new class of artificial ionophores, based on a C2-symmetric polyhydroxylated steroid dimer, are described.     

Metal-directed synthesis and photophysical studies of trinuclear v-shaped and pentanuclear x-shaped ruthenium and osmium metallorods and metallostars based upon 4'-(3,5-dihydroxyphenyl)-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine divergent units

A new series of V-shaped trinuclear metallorods and X-shaped pentanuclear metallostars has been prepared by the reaction of metal complexes bearing pendant phenolic functionalities with complexes containing electrophilic ligands. Specifically, {M(tpy)2} motifs (M=Ru or Os; tpy=2,2':6',2'-terpyridine) bearing one or two pendant 3,5-dihydroxyphenyl substituents at the 4-position of the central ring of the tpy have been reacted with the complexes [Ru(tpy)(Xtpy)]2+ (X=Cl or Br) to form new ether-linked species. The energy transfer from ruthenium to osmium in these complexes has been investigated in detail and the efficiency of transfer shown to be highly temperature dependent; the energy transfer is highly efficient at low temperature, whereas at room temperature nonradiative and nontransfer deactivation of the excited {Ru(tpy)2}* domains is most significant.

An analytic version of the De Rham theorem

LetV be a real analytic paracompact variety; in §1 of this paper we prove that: $$H^q (V,R) \approx \frac{{closed analytic differentiable q - forms on V}}{{exact analytic differentiable q - forms on V}}$$ Then we prove that the closed (exact) analytic differentiableq-forms onV are dense, in the Whitney topology, in the set of closed (exact) differentiableq-forms onV. We also consider the problem of extending closed (exact) analytic differentiableq-forms, defined on a subvarietyX ofV, to closed (exact) analytic forms defined onV.     

Lelong numbers of positive plurisubharmonic currents

A (k,k)-current T on an open subset of C^N is plurisubharmonic if is positive. Positive plurisubharmonic currents admit Lelong numbers; we prove here that they are independent on the coordinates system. Moreover, if Y is an analytic subset of pure dimension, then the Lelong numbers of T on Y are given by a non negative weakly plurisubharmonic function.     

Quantitative analysis of 2-furfural and 5-methylfurfural in different Italian vinegars by headspace solid-phase microextraction coupled to gas chromatography-mass spectrometry using isotope dilution

A new method was developed for the determination of 2-furfural (2-F) and 5-methylfurfural (5-MF), two products of Maillard reaction in vinegar, with head-space solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME) coupled to gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). A divinylbenzene (DVB)/carboxen (CAR)/polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) fibre was used and SPME conditions were optimised, studying ionic strength effect, temperature effect and adsorption time. Both analytes were determined by calibration established on 2-furfural-d4 (2-F-d4). The method showed good linearity in the range studied (from 16 to 0.12 mg/l), with a regression coefficient r2 of 0.9999. Inter-batch precision and accuracy were found between 14.9 and 6.0% and between -11.7 and 0.2%, respectively. Detection limit was 15 microg/l. The method is simple and accurate and it has been applied to a series of balsamic and non-balsamic vinegars.     

A classical approach to dissociative electron attachment DA: application to temperature effects in the DA cross section of CF3Cl

A classical theory of dissociative attachment (DA) is developed. The DA cross section σ_{ν → DA} of a molecule in the initial vibrational state ν is calculated. The model is applied to the negative ion formation in low energy electron scattering from CF₃Cl molecules. Temperature effects of the DA cross section of CF₃Cl can be explained within our classical model.     

Reversible aggregation/deaggregation of gold nanoparticles induced by a cleavable dithiol linker

Aqueous solutions of Au colloids (12 +/- 4 nm size) when treated with a blend of mono- and dithiols aggregate forming stable clusters, as evidenced by the shift of their surface plasmon (SP) band from 512 to ca. 600 nm. The presence of carboxylate ester functions on the dithiol allows its cleavage by addition of a cleaving agent, such as hydrazine. The cleavage process results in the breaking down of the clusters of nanoparticles and the shift of the SP band back to lower wavelengths. Further addition of dithiol causes the formation of the clusters again. The aggregation/deaggregation process may be monitored visually by following the color change from pink-red to purple and vice versa in the forward and backward steps, respectively.
