The rates of hydrogenation of several styrene derivatives by stoichiometric hydridocobalt tetracarbonyl [HCo(CO)4] were measured and compared. The relative rates are discussed in terms of conjugative and steric effects on the geminate radical pair mechanism. An improved method for determining HCo(CO)4 concentration is described.  相似文献

An in-depth study of n-type doping in a crystalline perylene diimide organic semiconductor (PPEEB) reveals that electrostatic attractions between the dopant electron and its conjugate dopant cation cause the free carrier density to be much lower than the doping density. Measurements of the dark currents as a function of field, doping density, electrode spacing, and temperature are reported along with preliminary Hall-effect measurements. The activation energy of the current, E(aJ), decreases with increasing field and with increasing dopant density, n(d). It is the measured change in E(aJ) with n(d) that accounts primarily for the variations between PPEEB films; the two adjustable parameters employed to fit the current-voltage data proved to be almost constants, independent of n(d) and temperature. The free electron density and the electron mobility are nonlinearly coupled through their shared dependences on both field and temperature. The data are fit to a modified Poole-Frenkel-like model that is shown to be valid for three important electronic processes in organic (excitonic) semiconductors: excitonic effects, doping, and transport. At room temperature, the electron mobility in PPEEB films is estimated to be 0.3 cm(2)/Vs; the fitted value of the mobility for an ideal PPEEB crystal is 3.4 +/- 2.7 cm(2)/Vs. The modified Poole-Frenkel factor that describes the field dependence of the current is 2 +/- 1 x 10(-4) eV (cm/V)(1/2). The analytical model is surprisingly accurate for a system that would require a coupled set of nonlinear tensor equations to describe it precisely. Being based on general electrostatic considerations, our model can form the requisite foundation for treatments of more complex systems. Some analogies to adventitiously doped materials such as pi-conjugated polymers are proposed.  相似文献

We describe two experiments in which we investigate the synchronization of coupled periodic oscillators. Each experimental system consists of two identical coupled electronic periodic oscillators that display bursts of desynchronization events similar to those observed previously in coupled chaotic systems. We measure the degree of synchronization as a function of coupling strength. In the first experiment, high-quality synchronization is achieved for all coupling strengths above a critical value. In the second experiment, no high-quality synchronization is observed. We compare our results to the predictions of the several proposed criteria for synchronization. We find that none of the criteria accurately predict the range of coupling strengths over which high-quality synchronization is observed. (c) 2000 American Institute of Physics.  相似文献

Background  

The β3 subunit of the γ-aminobutyric acid type A receptor (GABAA-R) has been reported to be important for palate formation, anesthetic action, and normal nervous system function. This subunit has also been implicated in the pathogenesis of Angelman syndrome and autism spectrum disorder. To further investigate involvement of this subunit, we previously produced mice with a global knockout of β3. However, developmental abnormalities, compensation, reduced viability, and numerous behavioral abnormalities limited the usefulness of that murine model. To overcome many of these limitations, a mouse line with a conditionally inactivated β3 gene was engineered.  相似文献

Strongly oriented thin films of lead zinc niobate (PZN)–lead zirconium titanate (PZT) with (La,Sr)CoO3 lower electrodes were grown on MgO {001} substrates by pulsed laser deposition. The films were perovskite-dominated with strong in-plane and out-of-plane orientations. Room-temperature functional characterisation indicated that the films were ferroelectric, with dielectric constant ∼550 and loss tangent ∼0.08 at 1 kHz. The crystallographic strain, as a function of applied dc field, was monitored by in situ X-ray diffraction. The maximum electric-field-induced crystallographic strain (∼0.22%) was comparable to that observed in bulk, but at significantly greater field (∼150 kV cm-1). The effective d33 value obtained from the crystallographic strain data was around 150 pm V-1, which is high for ferroelectric thin films 400 nm in thickness. The local polarisation-switching properties of the films were investigated using a piezo-response atomic force microscope. Domain maps for a 5×5 μm2 region of material were recorded as a function of dc bias, and confirmed the ferroelectric switching behaviour. PACS 81.05.Je; 81.40.Vw; 68.37.Lp  相似文献
