Reaction of 1-[2-(vinyloxy)ethyl]-1<Emphasis Type="Italic">H</Emphasis>-pyrroles with trifluoroacetic anhydride

Chemo- and stereoselectivity of the reaction of 1-[2-(vinyloxy)ethyl]-1H-pyrroles with trifluoroacetic anhydride have been studied. The reaction with an equimolar amount of trifluoroacetic anhydride chemoselectively involves the free α-position of the pyrrole ring with formation of the corresponding α-trifluoroacetylpyrroles. In the reaction with 2 equiv of trifluoroacetic anhydride, acylation of both α-position of the pyrrole ring and β-position of the vinyloxy group leads to the formation of 1-(2-{[(1E)-4,4,4-trifluoro-3-oxobut-1-en-1-yl]oxy}ethyl)-2-trifluoroacetyl derivatives with high stereoselectivity.     

Specific physical and chemical properties of two modifications of poly(N-vinylcaprolcatam)

Two modifications of poly(N-vinylcaprolactam)—PVCL25 and PVCL40 (drying of a PVCL solution at 25 and 40°С, respectively)—as powdered films and their solutions were systematically investigated for the first time. Powders were studied by X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, low-temperature krypton adsorption, and differential scanning calorimetry. Solutions were studied by smallangle X-ray scattering and dynamic light scattering. It was demonstrated that powders of PVCL25 and PVCL40 differ in the characteristics of the sub- and microstructure and in the water content and the solutions differ in the particle size. The relationships between the characteristics of the systems in the solid and liquid state and between the hydrodynamic diameter of PVCL particles in solution and their coagulation time were found.     

Reaction of chloromercuriocobaltacarborane with derivatives of the undecaborate anion

The reactions of the undecaborate anion Cs⁺C₂B₉H₁₂ ^– (1) and exo-nido-ruthenacarborane exo-nido-5,6,10-[Cl(Ph₃P)₂Ru]-5,6,10-(-H)₃-10-H-7,8-C₂B₉H₈ (2) with the 9-chloromercurated cobaltacarborane, viz., 3-(⁵-Cp)-9-ClHg-3,1,2-CoC₂B₉H₁₀ (3), afforded Cs[10-{3"-(⁵-Cp)-3",1",2"-CoC₂B₉H₁₀-9"-Hg}-7,8-C₂B₉H₁₁] (4) and 5,6,10-exo-nido-[Cl(Ph₃P)₂Ru]-5,6,10-(-H)₃-10-{3"-(⁵-Cp)-3",1",2"-CoC₂B₉H₁₀-9"-Hg}-7,8-C₂B₉H₈ (5), respectively. The latter compound exists as two isomers. Compound 5 was prepared also by the reaction of compound 4 with Ru(PPh₃)₃Cl₂.

Activation of the dissolution of carbonate materials in water by electric impulse discharges

Effect of electric impulse discharges on the equilibrium in the systems calcium carbonate-water and calcium carbonate-water-carbon dioxide was studied.     

Transformation of 3-methylpyridine into nicotinic acid by the yeast S. cerevisiae

It has been shown that the yeast S. cerevisiae has the ability to synthesize nicotinic acid and NAD from 3-methylpyridine. Fractionation of intracellular yeast proteins established that the fraction of molecular weight 65–90 kDa had the highest activity for transformation of pyridine derivatives into nicotinate. HPLC showed that, in addition to nicotinic acid, nicotinamide was also present in the intermediates during transformation of 3-methylpyridine.
