Investigation of some nitrogen compounds of 2,2′-dithienyl

The dithienyl analog (I) of cinchophen was obtained by condensation of isatin with 5-acetyl-2,2-dithienyl in alkaline media. The nitration of I with cupric nitrate in acetic anhydride gave 5-(4-carboxy-2-quinolyl)-5-nitro and 5-(4-carboxy-2-quinolyl)-3- nitro-2,2-dithienyls, the structures of which were established by alternative synthesis.See [1] for communication III.Translated from Khimiya Geterotsiklicheskikh Soedinenii, No. 6, pp. 770–772, June, 1972.     

Flavor symmetry, K– mixing and new physics effects on CP violation in D and Ds decays

Flavor symmetry and symmetry breaking, K⁰– mixing and possible effects of new physics on CP violation in weak decay modes D^±→K_S,L+X^±, (K_S,L+π⁰)_K^*+X^± (for X=π,ρ,a₁) and D^±_s→K_S,L+X^±_s, (K_S,L+π⁰)_K^*+X^±_s (for X_s=K,K^*) are analyzed. Relations between D^± and D^±_s decay branching ratios are obtained from the ds subgroup of SU(3) and dominant symmetry-breaking mechanisms are investigated. A CP asymmetry of magnitude 3.3×10⁻³ is shown to result in the standard model from K⁰– mixing in the final-state. New physics affecting the doubly Cabibbo-suppressed channels might either cancel this asymmetry or enhance it up to the percent level. A comparison between the CP asymmetries in D^±_(s)→K_SX^±_(s) and D^±_(s)→K_LX^±_(s) can pin down effects of new physics.     

Isospin-violating mixing in meson nonets

Segregation into ideally mixed nonets results when the OZI-violating interaction which would mix uū, dd?, and ss? mesons into isospin and SU(3) eigenstates is much weaker than the ss?dd? mass difference. We show that the dd?uū mass difference can begin to induce a similar segregation into dd? and uū mesons which leads to large isospin violations. An experimental example of such large isospin breaking (≈30%) which we predict has probably already been seen in f → KK?.     

Resonance physics with γγ events

We discuss a number of experimental consequences of the recent suggestion that γγ interactions are dominated by s-channel resonances: notably, f-A₂ interference in the K$\text{K}$ final state, and the possibility of testing phase predictions of SU(3) and higher symmetries.     

Study of certain condensation products in the 2,2′-dithienyl series. III

Bis-α, β-unsaturated diketones of 2, 2′-dithienyl, which had not been previously described in the literature, were synthesized by means of a crotonic condensation of 5, 5′-diacetyl-2, 2′-dithienyl with certain aromatic and heterocyclic aldehydes. These compounds form halochromic solutions in sulfuric acid. The IR and UV spectra were determined.
