Preparation and reactions of 2-benzenesulphonyltetrahydropyran

The anion derived from 2-benzenesulphonyltetrahydropyran (1) reacts with various electrophiles to give alkylated or acylated products some of which are useful precursors for spiroketal synthesis.     

A conformational study of elaiophylin by X-ray crystallography and difference 1H NMR methods; observation of a selective sign reversal of the nuclear overhauser effect

During the structure detrmination of elaiophylin by X-ray crystallography and n.O.e. difference spectroscopy, the crystal and solution conformations were established and a selective sign reversal of the n.O.e. observed; this is rationalised in terms of the molecule's internal motions.     

Fe2(co)g in tetrahydrofuran or under sonochemical conditions as convenient practical routes to π-allyltricarbonyliron lactone complexes

A series of alkenyl epoxides were converted into their corresponding π-allyltricarbonyliron lactone complexes by either treatment with tetrahydrofuran solutions of Fe₂(CO)₉ at room temperature, or in hydrocarbon solvents with Fe₂(CO)₉ under ultrasonification conditions. The new routes constitute convenient practical alternatives to presently existing methodology.     

Cyclisation reactions of alkenyl β-ketoesters involving a novel phenylseleno group migration

A number of alkenyl-substituted α-phenylseleno β-ketoesters can be cyclised in the presence of acidic catalysts in which a novel migration of phenylseleno moiety occurs.     

Efficient batch and continuous flow Suzuki cross-coupling reactions under mild conditions, catalysed by polyurea-encapsulated palladium (II) acetate and tetra-n-butylammonium salts

Suzuki cross-coupling reactions are effected in both conventional organic solvents, under continuous flow conditions at 70 degree C, and in batch mode in supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2), at temperatures as low as 40 degrees C in the presence of palladium(II) acetate microencapsulated in polyurea [PdEnCat] and tetra-n-butylammonium salts.     

The structural nature of amorphous Se and Te

We present new photoemission measurements on amorphous and trigonal Te. These results and other recent photoemission experiments on amorphous and trigonal Se are interpreted using density of states and charge density calculations. These studies result in new insights into the possible structural nature of the amorphous phase.
