Diffusion-limited aggregation (DLA) is a model which represents noisy growth limited by diffusion. This process is quite common in nature and the simple algorithm gives a good representation of the large-scale structure of many natural objects. The clusters grown in the computer and the real objects in question are tenuous and approximately self-similar. A good deal is known about the algorithm, but a complete theory is not yet available. I review the current state of knowledge about the model, its applications and theoretical analysis of the results.  相似文献

Tritium (3H) is an essential tracer of the Earth's water cycle; yet widespread adoption of tritium in hydrologic studies remains a challenge because of analytical barriers to quantification and detection of 3H by electrolytic pre-concentration. Here, we propose a simple tritium electrolytic enrichment system based on the use of solid polymer electrolyte membranes (PEMs) that can be used to enrich 3H in 250–3000?mL environmental water samples to a 10-mL final volume. The IAEA PEM-3H system reported here can produce high enrichment factors (>70-fold) and, importantly, removes some of the deterrents to conventional 3H enrichments methods, including the use of toxic electrolysis and neutralization chemicals, spike standards, a complex electrolysis apparatus that requires extensive cooling and temperature controls, and improves precision by eliminating the need for tracking recovery gravimetrics. Preliminary results with varying operating conditions show 3H enrichments to 70-fold and higher are feasible, spanning a wide range of tritium activities from 5 to 150 TU with a precision of ~4.5?%. Further work is needed to quantify inter-sample memory and to establish lower 3H detection limits. The IAEA PEM-3H system is open source, with 3-D CAD and design files made freely available for adoption and improvement by others.  相似文献

Manganese phthalocyanine (MnPc) and copper phthalocyanine (CuPc)-modified electrodes were prepared using multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) as a support material. The catalyst materials were heat treated at four different temperatures to investigate the effect of pyrolysis on the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) activity of these electrocatalysts. The MWCNT to metal phthalocyanine ratio was varied. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was employed to visualise the surface morphology of the electrodes and the x-ray photoelectron spectroscopic (XPS) study was carried out to analyse the surface composition of the most active catalyst materials. The ORR was studied in 0.1 M KOH solution employing the rotating disk electrode (RDE) method. Glassy carbon (GC) electrodes were modified with carbon nanotube-supported metal phthalocyanine catalysts using Tokuyama AS-4 ionomer. The RDE results revealed that the highest electrocatalytic activity for ORR was achieved upon heat treatment at 800 °C. CuPc-derived catalyst demonstrated lower catalytic activity as compared to the MnPc-derived counterpart, which is in good agreement with previous literature, whereas the activity of MnPc-based catalyst was higher than that reported earlier.  相似文献

Alkylene‐ and arylene‐bridged cyclolinear polycarbosilanes (CLPCS) with 1,3‐disilacyclobutane (DSCB) rings incorporated in the main chain of the polymer were prepared by polycondensation between corresponding di‐functional DSCB derivatives and di‐Grignard reagents. Well‐defined, low molecular weight (Mn = 3–5K; DP = 17–26), hexylene‐ and phenylene‐bridged CLPCS polymers were obtained without appreciable ring opening of the DSCB rings. Large exothermic peaks were observed in the DSC for these CLPCSs, which indicated, along with the IR spectra, that crosslinking occurred on heating to about 250 °C via the ring opening of the embedded, alternating, DSCB rings. Moreover, PB‐CLPCS undergoes photochemically induced crosslinking on UV irradiation to form crosslinked polycarbosilane network films. The spin‐cast, cured, films of these CLPCSs exhibit relatively low dielectric constants and promising thermal and mechanical properties for applications in electronics, for example, directly UV‐photoimprinted low‐k dielectrics. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The E. coli siderophore enterobactin, the strongest FeIII chelator known to date, forms hexacoordinate complexes with SiIV, GeIV, and TiIV. Synthetic protocols have been developed to prepare non-symmetric enterobactin analogues with varying denticities. Various benzoic acid residues were coupled to the macrocyclic lactone to afford a diverse library of ligands. These enterobactin analogues were bound to SiIV, GeIV, and TiIV, and the complexes were investigated through experimental and computational techniques. The binding behavior of the synthesized chelators enabled assessment of the contribution of each of the phenolic hydroxy groups in enterobactin to metal-ion complexation. It was found that at least four O-donors are needed for enterobactin derivatives to act as metal binders. Density functional theory calculations indicate that the strong binding behavior of enterobactin can be ascribed to a diminished translational entropy penalty, a common feature of the chelate effect, coupled with the structural arrangement of the three catechol moieties, which allows the triseryl base to be installed without distorting the preferred local metal-binding geometry of the catecholate ligands.  相似文献

Dendritic copolymers comprising a hydrophobic core and hydrophilic shell with nearly equal numbers of hydroxyl groups in the shell and different densities in the core were prepared by a multi‐step process based on anionic ring‐opening polymerization. The diversity in the core density was obtained by using copolymer stars with poly(tert‐butyl‐glycidylether)‐block‐polyglycidol arms with nearly equal length of hydrophobic blocks and numbers of hydroxyl groups of polyglycidol but different numbers of arms as macroinitiators. The ability of the dendritic copolymers to serve as a nanocontainer for a ruthenium complex Ru(NH3)3Cl3 with anticancer properties was studied. The possibility of improving the water solubility of this poorly soluble drug by loading it onto dendritic copolymers was investigated. The hydroxyl groups of the dendritic copolymers were used for complexation of the ruthenium compound to the shell. The loading efficiency was analyzed by UV–vis spectroscopy. Using gauge‐invariant atomic orbital PBE/3ζ quantum chemistry approach, 13C NMR chemical shifts and diastereotopic splittings of sp2 fullerenyl carbons of a number of sulfur homofullerenes and methanofullerenes have been predicted and discussed. An anisochrony of fullerene carbons is caused by a chiral center of attached moieties. Clearly distinguishable diastereotopic pairs (from 8 to 11) of fullerenyl carbons of homofullerenes were observed. Unambiguous assignments of 13C NMR chemical shifts were performed, and diastereotopic splittings of methanofullerenes were observed for α, β and γ to a functionalization site.
