The degree of crystallinity of as-made fully aromatic, thermotropic polyesters was determined for two different series of polymers, each of which contained a symmetric monomer having either pendant phenyl groups or fused aromatic rings by the WAXD technique. All of the homopolymers had a high degree of crystallinity in spite of bulky substituents attached to the mesogenic moiety. Surprisingly, the homopolymer of 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylic acid with each of the monomers had a higher degree of crystallinity and Tm than those of the homopolymer of terephthalic acid with each of the respective monomers. As expected, on copolymerization with 30 mol % of either 4-hydroxybenzoic acid or 6-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid, all of the resulting copolymers had a much lower degree of crystallinity and Tm/Tf values compared to those of the respective homopolymers in each series. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

We study spectral properties of random operators in the general setting of groupoids and von Neumann algebras. In particular, we establish an explicit formula for the canonical trace of the von Neumann algebra of random operators and define an abstract density of states. While the treatment applies to a general framework we lay special emphasis on three particular examples: random Schrödinger operators on manifolds, quantum percolation and quasi–crystal Hamiltonians. For these examples we show that the distribution function of the abstract density of states coincides with the integrated density of states defined via an exhaustion procedure.  相似文献

Background  

Human brain activity in the gamma frequency range has been shown to be a correlate of numerous cognitive functions like attention, perception and memory access. More specifically, gamma activity has been found to be enhanced when stimuli are stored in or match with short-term memory (STM). We tested the hypothesis that gamma activity is also evoked when stimuli match representations in long-term-memory (LTM). EEG was recorded from 13 subjects performing a choice reaction task. Visual stimuli were either known real-world objects with a memory representation or novel configurations never seen before.  相似文献

The application of HPLC-MS combined with principal components analysis (PCA) to the metabonomic analysis of mouse urine is demonstrated. Urine samples from three strains of mouse were analysed by gradient HPLC-MS combined with positive and negative electrospray time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Analysis of the resulting data using PCA enabled the samples to be discriminated between on the basis of gender, strain and diurnal variation. These preliminary results suggest that HPLC-MS-based approaches may have a useful role in metabonomic analysis that complements existing approaches.  相似文献

This article deals with certain dynamical systems built from point sets and, more generally, measures on locally compact Abelian groups. These systems arise in the study of quasicrystals and aperiodic order, and important subclasses of them exhibit pure point diffraction spectra. We discuss the relevant framework and recall fundamental results and examples. In particular, we show that pure point diffraction is stable under equivariant local perturbations and discuss various examples, including deformed model sets. A key step in the proof of stability consists in transforming the problem into a question on factors of dynamical systems.  相似文献
