A non‐linear and non‐local boundary condition for a diffusion equation in petroleum engineering

This article deals with a boundary value problem for Laplace equation with a non‐linear and non‐local boundary condition. This problem comes from petroleum engineering and is used to obtain an estimation of well productivity. The non‐linear and non‐local boundary condition is written on the well boundary. On the outer reservoir boundaries, we have both Dirichlet and Neumann conditions. In this paper, we prove the existence and uniqueness of a solution to this problem. The existence is proved by Schauder theorem and the uniqueness is obtained under more restricted conditions, when the involved operator is a contraction. The influence of Na<Superscript>+</Superscript> on the anilinepropylsilica xerogel synthesis by using the fluoride nucleophilic catalyst

Anilinepropylsilica xerogel was obtained by using an appropriate organosilane and tetraethyl orthosilicate as precursor reagents. The gelation was carried out using HF and NaF as catalysts. The presence of Na⁺ (when NaF was used) resulted in a decrease in the final organic content of the materials. This effect was interpreted as an inhibition of the organosilane polycondensation possibly due to the Na⁺ interaction with the SiO^- groups of the hydrolyzed organosilane. The presence of Na⁺ also results in morphological changes in the xerogels.     

Geometry of an Accelerated Rotating Disk

We analyze the geometry of a rotating disk with a tangential acceleration in the framework of the theory of Special Relativity, using the kinematic linear differential system that verifies the relative position vector of time-like curves in a Fermi reference. A numerical integration of these equations for a generic initial value problem is made up and the results are compared with those obtained in other works.     

Sound radiation from a joint of plates of different thickness

A method of solving the problem of sound radiation from a plate with elements of different thickness in its plane is proposed, and the results obtained with this method are presented. It is shown that the main sources of sound radiation are the inhomogeneous flexural fields formed in the elements on both sides of their joint.     

Rotational spectra of isotopic species of SO2F2: experimental and ab initio structures

The rotational spectra of ³⁴SO₂F₂ and S¹⁸O¹⁶OF₂ have been measured in their ground vibrational state between 9 and 110 GHz. Accurate rotational constants have been derived. Various experimental structures including the average structure have been determined. The ab initio structure has been calculated at the CCSD(T) level of theory. The different structures are compared and the best equilibrium structure is the ab initio structure: r_e(SO)=1.401 (3) Å, r_e(SF)=1.532 (3) Å, ∠_e(OSO)=124.91(20)°, ∠_e(FSF)=95.53 (20)°.     

Low Cost, High Efficiency, Gain Flattened L Band EDFA Using FBGs as C Band Seed Generators

A low cost, coolerless 980nm diode pumped, gain flattened L band EDFA with fast transient control, high pump efficiency and gain clamping effect was realized by using FBGs as C band seed generators.     

An algebra of meromorphic corner symbols

Operators on manifolds with corners that have base configurations with geometric singularities can be analysed in the frame of a conormal symbolic structure which is in spirit similar to the one for conical singularities of Kondrat'ev's work. Solvability of elliptic equations and asymptotics of solutions are determined by meromorphic conormal symbols. We study the case when the base has edge singularities which is a natural assumption in a number of applications. There are new phenomena, caused by a specific kind of higher degeneracy of the underlying symbols. We introduce an algebra of meromorphic edge operators that depend on complex parameters and investigate meromorphic inverses in the parameter-dependent elliptic case. Among the examples are resolvents of elliptic differential operators on manifolds with edges.     

Dynamics of two-mode radiation in optical waveguides with strong mode coupling

Amplitude equations, as well as the effective dispersion and nonlinearity parameters, which define the dynamics of a wave packet formed by two strongly coupled modes, are derived with allowance for the frequency dependence of the linear mode coupling coefficient. These equations are used to study the onset of the modulation instability of the two-mode wave packet, soliton-like pulses, and compression modes. Unlike single-mode systems, the last two effects in optical waveguides may arise for both a negative and positive disper-sion of the waveguide material.
