Adsorption of organic anions on iron in aqueous solutions: An ellipsometric study

Adsorption of anions of higher aromatic amino acids on the surface of iron from aqueous solutions is studied by an ellipsometric method concurrently with electrochemical measurements. It is demonstrated that ellipsometry is an effective method for studying in situ regularities governing the adsorption of anions of organic acids on the surface of metallic electrodes. Variations of ellipsometric parameters with the adsorbate concentration make it possible to obtain adsorption isotherms and determine adsorption characteristics.

Copolymerization of diallyl isophthalate with methyl methacrylate and styrene in the presence of C60 fullerene

The involvement of fullerene in the radical copolymerization of diallyl isophthalate with methyl methacrylate or styrene results in a change in the relative activity of monomers owing to the interaction of C₆₀ with the allyl radical yielding a “quo;new,”quo; more active radical. This corresponds to the transition from degradative chain transfer to effective transfer to the allyl compound. It is of great importance that, at an amount of diallyl isophthalate in the monomer mixture of up to 10 mol %, C₆₀ fullerene is almost completely incorporated into macromolecules.     

New method for the synthesis and the mechanism of formation of 1,2-di-and 1,2,3-trialkyldiaziridines

A new simple approach to the synthesis of 1,2-di-and 1,2,3-trialkyldiaziridines has been developed based on direct chlorination of a mixture of the corresponding aldehyde and an excess of primary aliphatic amine in water. The mechanism of this reaction is proposed and confirmed by quantum chemical calculations at the density functional theory level. Dedicated to Academician O. M. Development of copper meshes for frequency and spatial selection of the terahertz radiation of the Novosibirsk free electron laser

We discuss the problems of developing passive terahertz quasioptic components based on metal meshes with a characteristic topological unit cell size of 5–100 μm and a metallization thickness from tens to hundreds of micrometers intended for frequency and spatial selection of the high-power terahertz radiation of the Novosibirsk free electron laser. The specificity of the selective properties of metallic structures with a high aspect ratio of various types including harmonic filters, polarization beam splitters, and diffraction radiation focusers have been considered theoretically. The procedure of manufacturing high-aspect-ratio copper meshes by means of LIGA technology developed at the Siberian Center of Synchrotron Radiation is described.     

Thermodynamic properties of noble-metal alloys using the cell approximation in the method of a model electron-density functional

The thermodynamic properties of the main ordered and disordered phases of copper, silver, and gold alloys are investigated theoretically using the cell approximation in the method of a model electron-density functional. Quantitative determination of the electronic effects of 3- and 4-pyridazinyl groups from NMR spectral data for isomeric aminophenyl- and phenylpyridazines
