The rheological behavior of an uncrosslinked polybutadiene on sudden application of finite strain was examined. The shear stress σ, two components of birefringence, and the extinction angle were measured in shear (magnitude of shear γ ≤ 3.5) and tensile stress and the birefringence were measured in uniaxial elongation (elongation ratio λ ≤ 3.8). Measurements were performed at 30°C with a tensile tester equipped with appropriate sample holders. The stress-optical coefficient was 3.01 × 10?9Pa?1. The first and second normal-stress differences v1 and v2 were separately evaluated with the use of stress-optical law. The Lodge—Meissner relation v1 = γσ held good. The ratio v2/v1 was independent of time and varied from about ?0.3 to ?0.2 with increasing γ in the range of measurements. Each of the stress components was factored into a function of strain and one of time, and the latter was common to all the stress components. Adsorption equilibria at about 1000 atm were measured for aqueous solutions of aromatic compounds. No significant difference between the isotherms at atmospheric pressure and at 1000 atm was found for nitrobenzene and ethylbenzene on activated carbon fiber. The decrease in the amount adsorbed due to the solubility increase with pressure and the increase in the amount adsorbed caused by compression of the adsorbed phase were considered to cancel each other. On the other hand, pressure had a marked effect on the adsorption of L-phenylalanine on a macroreticular adsorbent, resulting in a 1.5 to 2 times larger amount adsorbed at 1500 atm. The pressure effect was greater with larger amounts adsorbed. This implies that the molar volume of the adsorbed state is smaller than those of the pure state and dissolved state, and varies with the amount adsorbed. 相似文献

Excited states of excitonic molecules are found in the study of the two-photon-resonant Raman scattering. These states consist of four levels and have binding energies of 1.0–1.8 meV, which are very small compared with those of the ground states. The mean superficial density of fine particles, such as polystyrene latex particles or ion exchange resin particles, dispersed on a thin supporting film was measured by means of the thickness gauge which used the absorption curves of alpha-rays. The measured absorption curves coincided with the ones calculated from the particle diameter, density, number of particles per unit area and equivalent film thickness to an absorption gas of 1 mmHg. On the other hand, when the particle diameter exceeded a certain limit, the measured mean superficial density which was derived from the pressure displacement of absorption curve considerably differed from the true mean superficial density. This limit can be calculated from the shape of absorption curve, which depends on the alpha-ray spectrum emitted from the source. In the case of the 241Am source used in this study, the limit was about 450 microgram/cm2 for polystyrene latex particles. The mean superficial density of a sample can easily be obtained by measuring the pressure displacement of absorption curve when the maximum thickness difference is below the limit. However, when the maximum thickness difference exceeds the limit, it is necessary to estimate the whole shape of absorption curves. 相似文献

Changes in Si(111) 7 × 7 pattern with air exposure are studied by RHEED. The relation between exposure time and air-oxidized film thickness is obtained using an ellipsometer. As a result, it is found that the 7 × 7 surface after air exposure (760 Torr, 20 h) still exhibits several 7 × 7 spots near normal ones in the RHEED pattern. The air-oxidized film thickness corresponding to this exposure is about 13 Å. The fact that the 7 × 7 spots do not disappear with HF etching of the oxide film indicates that the superstructure remains not at the oxide surface but at the substrate selvedge. The 7 × 7 spots gradually disappear after longer exposure time and no 7 × 7 spots can be observed after 40 h (about 15 Å in oxide thickness). For a sample exposed longer than 40 h, no 7 × 7 spots reappear, even if the oxide is removed by HF. An improved rapid method is described for the detection of restriction endonucleases in enteropathogenic bacteria including Salmonella and Escherichia coli. With the improved method, at least six restriction endonucleases with different specificity were found in 415 strains tested. Five of them were shown to be isoschizomers of known restriction endonucleases, while one seemed to be novel. Among the isoschizomers, SthI endonuclease (isoschizomer of KpnI) in Salmonella thompson appears to be useful; unlike KpnI, SthI generates DNA fragments with a 5′-protruding end. 相似文献
