Using polarization-entangled photons from spontaneous parametric down-conversion, we have implemented Ekert's quantum cryptography protocol. The near-perfect correlations of the photons allow the sharing of a secret key between two parties. The presence of an eavesdropper is continually checked by measuring Bell's inequalities. We investigated several possible eavesdropper strategies, including pseudo-quantum-nondemolition measurements. In all cases, the eavesdropper's presence was readily apparent. We discuss a procedure to increase her detectability.  相似文献

A simple model of physiological thermoregulation, previously adapted to predict the thermoregulatory consequences of exposure to the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) imaging environment, has been further adapted to simulate impaired cardiovascular function. Restrictions on the rate of skin blood flow (SkBF), ranging from 0 to 89% of normal, were studied. Predictions of physiological heat loss responses in real time were generated as a function of ambient temperature (Ta), relative humidity (RH) and rate of whole-body radiofrequency (RF) energy deposition (SAR). Under conditions that are desirable in the clinic (Ta = 20 degrees C, 50% RH, still air), moderate restrictions (up to 67%) of SkBF yield tolerable increases in core temperature (delta Tco less than or equal to 1 degree C) during NMR exposures (SAR less than or equal to 4 W/kg) of 40 min or less. Increased Ta and RH exacerbate the thermal stress imposed by absorbed RF energy; severely impaired SkBF encourages short NMR exposures (e.g., 20 min or less) at SARs less than or equal to 3 W/kg. In warm/humid environments, sweating is predicted to be profuse and evaporative cooling curtailed, yielding a state of extreme thermal discomfort. Added insulation (e.g., a blanket) is discouraged. Some guidelines, incorporating SkBF restrictions, Ta, RH, and insulation, are offered for the prediction of tolerable NMR exposure conditions.  相似文献

A theoretical and experimental study of the contribution of light-induced scattering to nonlinear optical limitation is made. It is shown that light-induced scattering makes a considerable contribution to the optical limitation of radiation by fullerene-containing solutions. Radiation is scattered by small-scale (1–10 μm) inhomogeneities of density, and the corresponding increments are rather large. Because of this, scattering can be initiated by small-scale inhomogeneities of the input beam. Numerical simulation of nonlinear scattering is made, and the angular distribution and limitation of radiation in optical limiters are calculated. A technical problem in cellulosic nanocomposite materials is the weak interaction between hydrophilic cellulose and hydrophobic polymer matrices. One approach to solve this difficulty is to chemically graft monomers of the matrix polymer onto the cellulose surface. An important question is to understand the effect such surface modification has on the interfacial properties. Semi-empirical approaches to estimate work of adhesion based on surface energies do not provide information on specific molecular interactions. Details about these interactions were obtained using molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. Cellulose interfaces with water and caprolactone medium were modeled with different amounts of grafted caprolactone. The modification lead to an increased work of adhesion between the surface and its surrounding medium. Furthermore, the MD simulations showed that the interaction between cellulose, both modified and non-modified, and surrounding medium is dominated by Coulomb interactions, predominantly as hydrogen bonds.  相似文献
