Quantifying viable bacteria in liquids is important in environmental, food processing, manufacturing, and medical applications. Since vegetative bacteria generate heat as a result of biochemical reactions associated with cellular functions, thermal sensing techniques, including infrared thermography (IRT), have been used to detect viable cells in biologic samples. We developed a novel method that extends the dynamic range and improves the sensitivity of bacterial quantification by IRT. The approach uses IRT video, thermodynamics laws, and heat transfer mechanisms to directly measure, in real-time, the amount of energy lost as heat from the surface of a liquid sample containing bacteria when the specimen cools to a lower temperature over 2 min. We show that the Energy Content (EC) of liquid media containing as few as 120 colony-forming units (CFU) of Escherichia coli per ml was significantly higher than that of sterile media (P < 0.0001), and that EC and viable counts were strongly positively correlated (r = 0.986) over a range of 120 to approximately 5 × 108 CFU/ml. Our IRT approach is a unique non-contact method that provides real-time bacterial enumeration over a wide dynamic range without the need for sample concentration, modification, or destruction. The approach could be adapted to quantify other living cells in a liquid milieu and has the potential for automation and high throughput.  相似文献

A semi-empirical calculation (PM3) was applied to elucidate the anodic oxidation mechanism of N,N-dimethylaniline (DMA) and the dimerization of a cation radical (A) derived from DMA was ruled out. The heat of reaction value of the dimerization of A was 42.43 kcal/mol. We propose the following. Cation radical A reacts with DMA to generate another cation radical (D). This reaction was exothermic and the heat of reaction value and the activation energy were -0.35 kcal/mol and 1.31 kcal/mol, respectively. Deprotonation of D by DMA gives neutral radical (E), which is oxidized to TMB by A. All these reactions were exothermic.  相似文献

The microwave spectra of four isotopic species of dichlorine monoxide (OCl2) have been observed, and the rotational constants have been obtained. The rm structure for each isotopic species has been determined by Watson's method. The equilibrium structure has been estimated by taking proper averages of rm structures to be re(OCl) = 1.69587(7) A? and ∠eClOCl = 110.886(6)°. The general applicability and the merit of the present method for estimating the equilibrium structure are pointed out.  相似文献

Some of the physical and thermodynamic properties of III–V liquids can be explained by assuming that the liquids have a dual structure. The thermodynamic model which has been established for the present paper is a partially associated solution model. It was constructed on the assumption of the existence of associated complexes. The asymmetry of the liquidus curve and the amount of excess free energy determined from the phase diagram analysis can be explained by using the model. Some of the thermodynamic parameters obtained in this study are found to have important physical meanings. The interaction parameter between monoatomic species, ωA,B is in a good agreement with the theoretical value proposed by Stringfellow. The heat of formation of associated complexes can be represented explicitly in terms of the spectroscopic ionicity and the dehybridization factor. The free energy of formation is empirically evaluated to be 20-6(fi ?0.17)RT?35,000fiDcal/mol for III–V binary liquids.  相似文献

The CN(B2Σ+ - X2Σ+) tail band emission system for μ′ = 11–20 resulting from the energy transfer reaction Ar(3P0,2) + BrCN in a flowing afterglow apparatus was measured. The vibrational and rotational distributions were determined as a function of argon pressure. Numerous perturbed rotational lines were observed; analysis of the dependences of these lines on argon pressure, with the aid of experimental information already published, led to the following assignments as to the origins of the perturbations: For μ′ = 11, N′ = 20 and μ′ = 13, N′ = 9, the perturbing state is a 4Σ+; for μ′ = 12, N′ = 10 and 14, μ′ = 14, N′ = 7 and 10, and μ′ = 17, N′ ≈ 17–19 the perturbing state is A 2Πi. The perturbed rotational line, μ′ = 11, N′ = 20, is found to be the primary source of intensity in the μ′ =11 vibrational band, but in all other cases the perturbed rotational lines do not significantly aid in the populating of the vibrational state. The anomalously high vibrational populations found in the tail band emission system (μ′ = 12, 14, 17 and 18), as well as the significantly high rotational excitations observed in the μ′ = 12–20 vibrational bands, apparently arise directly from the reaction intermediate.  相似文献

The microwave spectra of eight isotopic species of COCl2 have been observed, and the following rotational constants have been obtained: An analysis of the rotational constants has resulted in the rs and rm structures. The equilibrium structure, re, has been estimated by combining the rm parameters derived according to Watson's method and the re bond distances estimated in our recent electron-diffraction and spectroscopic studies to be re(CO) = 1.1756 ± 0.0023 A?, re(CCl) = 1.7381 ± 0.0019 A?, ∠eClCCl = 111.79 ± 0.24°.  相似文献

-Alumina was synthesized by a sol-gel method with the aluminum ion hydrolysis control performed by urea. The initial saturated Al3+/urea solution presented urea coordinated with the aluminum ion, as shown in the 13C NMR and 27Al NMR spectra and longitudinal relaxation times, T 1, from the latter. The substitution of water molecules in the Al3+ coordination shell by urea controlled the hydrolysis process and provided an extensive nucleation during the initial steps of the aluminum hydroxide formation due to urea thermolysis at 90°C. The resulting sol, composed of Al(OH)3 nanoparticles, coalesced and became a transparent gel permeated by a solution of urea and the polycation ion [Al13O4(OH)24(H2O)12]7+. The freshly prepared gel was transformed, under heating at 300°C, directly to -alumina, characterized by FTIR, 27Al-MAS-NMR and SBET techniques, without - or -phases, as a consequence of the high degree of homogeneity of the -alumina precursor.  相似文献

An siRNA nanocarrier formed through self-assembly of PEG-based block catiomer possessing two distinct amino groups with different pKa values in a side chain was developed. This design provided the carrier with a sufficient siRNA complexation and an assumed buffering capacity in the endosomes, allowing it to exhibit remarkable gene knockdown abilities as well as sufficient serum tolerability.  相似文献
