Ecological monitoring of megapolis on the basis of differential backscattering control of the wood culture

The application of the differential backscattering method and the fluorescent analysis of wood cultures for the determination of ecological quality of different megapolis areas are investigated. The correlation of leaves optical characteristics with the data of the chemical analysis of leaves pigments concentration is shown on the basis of the year statistical results of wood cultures spectral characteristics observation. It is experimentally found that the method of differential backscattering allows to identify megapolis areas on their ecological level.

The equilibrium characteristics of pyridoxine hydrochloride sorption on clinoptilolite

Pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B₆) sorption by clinoptilolite from aqueous solutions has been studied at 283, 295, and 317 K. Enhancement of the sorption with decreasing temperature has been found. Isotherm of pyridoxine hydrochloride adsorption from dilute solutions may be described by the Langmuir theory. It has been shown that the monolayer coverage of clinoptilolite surface with pyridoxine occurs via the equivalent exchange with extra-framework cations of the sorbent. Thermodynamic parameters of vitamin monolayer adsorption have been determined. It has been concluded that the polymolecular adsorption is due to the formation of pyridoxine associates in the sorbent mesopores.     

Dynamics of the Stokes pulse in a Brillouin amplifier

We show that the output Stoke pulse from a continuously (CW) pumped stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) amplifier is the sum of the transmitted input Stokes pulse, which propagates undistorted through the medium without amplification and additional delay, and of a Stokes shifted pump signal reflected by the electrostrictively induced acoustic wave, which contributes to the Stokes output signal with a delay determined by the time required for build up of the acoustic wave.     

Representation of the sound field of a turbulent vortex ring as a superposition of quadrupoles

Results of an experimental study of the directivity of noise produced by a turbulent vortex ring (Re≈10⁵) are presented. The acoustic measurements were performed in an anechoic chamber by a circular array of microphones with its center lying at the symmetry axis of the ring. A method of a synchronous processing of acoustic signals is proposed. This method allows one to separate different quadrupole components in the measured sound field of a turbulent vortex.

Determination of optical parameters of a medium by the profile of backscattered radiation

The possibilities of determining the scattering coefficient, the absorption coefficient, and the scattering anisotropy parameter of strongly scattering media are analyzed on the basis of comparison of experimentally obtained profiles of backscattered radiation with the profiles calculated with help of the numerical Monte Carlo method.
