Direct Hydrogenation of Dinitrogen and Dioxygen via Eley–Rideal Reactions

Most Eley–Rideal abstraction reactions involve an energetic gas‐phase atom reacting directly with a surface adsorbate to form a molecular product. Molecular projectiles are generally less reactive, may dissociate upon collision with the surface, and thus more difficult to prove that they can participate intact in abstraction reactions. Here we provide experimental evidence for direct reactions occurring between molecular N₂⁺ and O₂⁺ projectiles and surface‐adsorbed D atoms in two steps: first, the two atoms of the diatomic molecule undergo consecutive collisions with a metal surface atom without bond rupture; and second, the rebounding molecule abstracts a surface D atom to form N₂D and O₂D intermediates, respectively, detected as ions. The kinematics of the collisional interaction confirms product formation by an Eley–Rideal reaction mechanism and accounts for inelastic energy losses commensurate with surface re‐ionization. Such energetic hydrogenation of dinitrogen may provide facile activation of its triple bond as a first step towards bond cleavage.     

One‐pot Synthesis of Fused Dipyranocoumarins from Dihydroxycoumarins and Propargyl Chlorides under Microwave Irradiation

Dipetalolactone and 4‐methyldipetalolactone are prepared in excellent yield by a one‐pot tandem propargylation/Claisen rearrangement/cyclization reaction of the corresponding 5,7‐dihydroxycoumarins with 3‐chloro‐3‐methylbut‐1‐yne in the presence of Cs₂CO₃ under microwave irradiation. The analogous reactions of propargyl chloride with esculetins or 5,7‐dihydroxycoumarins led to dipropargyloxy derivatives. The later by treatment with gold nanoparticles supported on TiO₂ or BF₃.Et₂O in N,N‐dimethylformamide (DMF) under microwave irradiation resulted in very good to excellent yield to the corresponding fused dipyranocoumarins. The reactions of esculetins with 3‐chloro‐3‐methylbut‐1‐yne gave mainly exomethylene fused dioxino[g]coumarins.     

A relativistic CI study on OIII: wavefunctions,excitation energies and transition probabilities

The relativistic CI method is used to determine N-electron wavefunctions for the 1s ² 2s ² 2p ² (³ P ₀,³ P ₂,¹ D ₂), 1s ² 2p ^{4 3} P ₂ even levels, and the 1s ²2s2p ³ (³ D ₁,³ P ₁,³ S ₁,¹ P ₁), 1s ²2s ²2p3s (³ P ₁ and¹ P ₁), 1s ²2s ²2p3d (³ D ₁,³ P ₁,¹ P ₁)J=1 OIII levels. Excitation energies and emission probabilities between these levels are reported in the electric dipole approximation, both for the Coulomb and the Babushkin gauges.ns, p,np,nd- andnd (n17) numerical basis functions have been used for the construction of CSF's entering the CI expansion for the ASF's of these levels. Radiative matrix elements of the type calculated here within the framework of the relativistic CI method, may be used in laser assisted spectroscopic studies of atoms and ions.     

Production of antibodies from chicken egg yolk to phenyl- N -methylcarbamate insecticides for analytical purposes

With the aim of developing polyclonal antibodies binding as many phenyl-N-methylcarbamate insecticides (PNMCs) as possible, IgY antibodies were produced in laying hens. Two haptens (3-(2,6-dimethyl-4-(methylcarbamoyl)phenylaminocarbonyl)propanoic acid and 4-((2,6-dimethyl-4-(methylcarbamoyl)phenylaminocarbonyl)-3,3-dimethyl)butanoic acid) were synthesized preserving the major structural features of PNMCs, by a novel synthetic pathway. These haptens differed only in the spacer arm incorporated. Immunizing antigen and coating antigen were prepared by coupling the first hapten with bovine serum albumin and the second with thyroglobulin, from porcine thyroid glands, respectively. The titre and maturation increase in the developed antibodies, in the egg yolk, were assessed by non-competitive ELISA. Avidity and cross-reactivity of the antibodies with selected pesticides were estimated by means of competitive ELISA. The produced IgYs exhibited a high binding capacity to carbaryl, trimethacarb, metolcarb, aminocarb, and promecarb. These antibodies can be used for immunosorbent preparation for analytical purposes.     

Complex Macrophase‐Separated Nanostructure Induced by Microphase Separation in Binary Blends of Lamellar Diblock Copolymer Thin Films

The nanostructures of thin films spin‐coated from binary blends of compositionally symmetric polystyrene‐b‐polybutadiene (PS‐b‐PB) diblock copolymer having different molar masses are investigated by means of atomic force microscopy (AFM) and grazing‐incidence small‐angle X‐ray scattering (GISAXS) after spin‐coating and after subsequent solvent vapor annealing (SVA). In thin films of the pure diblock copolymers having high or low molar mass, the lamellae are perpendicular or parallel to the substrate, respectively. The as‐prepared binary blend thin films feature mainly perpendicular lamellae in a one‐phase state, indicating that the higher molar mass diblock copolymer dominates the lamellar orientation. The lamellar thickness decreases linearly with increasing volume fraction of the low molar mass diblock copolymer. After SVA, well‐defined macrophase‐separated nanostructures appear, which feature parallel lamellae near the film surface and perpendicular ones in the bulk.

     

Analysis of an FRW cosmological model

The Einstein field equations for the Friedmann universe reduce to a system of three first-order equations for the space-like components and a constraint from the temporal component. We analyse the system from the viewpoints of symmetry and singularity analyses. The solutions of particular relevance to Cosmology are highlighted.      

Stereochemical variations on the colchicine motif. Peracid oxidation of thiocolchicone. Synthesis, conformation and inhibition of microtubule assembly

When 7-oxodesacetamidothiocolchicine (1) was treated with various peroxides in order to afford a Baeyer-Villiger rearrangement, a complex mixture of products was formed, which included the sulfoxide, (2) and sulfone, (3). When peracetic acid was used two additional products were formed; a C-ring lactone (4) and a ring-contracted allocolchicine derivative (5). The sulfoxide (2) was semi-preparatively resolved into enantiomers by chromatography on microcrystalline triacetylcellulose. Rotational barriers around the A-C pivot bond of, and were determined by dynamic 1H NMR analysis. The compounds, and exhibit moderate inhibition of tubulin polymerization, according to in vitro turbidity studies, whereas was inactive.     

Lattice collapse in mixed-valence samarium fulleride Sm(2.75)C(60) at high pressure

Sm(2.75)C(60) displays large negative thermal expansion behaviour in the temperature range 4.2-32 K at ambient pressure as a result of a quasi-continuous valence change from the larger Sm(2+) towards the smaller Sm(2.3+) ion. Here we use the powder synchrotron X-ray diffraction technique at ambient temperature and elevated pressures to study the compression behaviour in the pressure range 0-6 GPa. An abrupt hysteretic phase transition, accompanied by a dramatic volume decrease (approximately =6.0%) and a change in colour from black to golden was found at approximately =4 GPa induced by a sudden Sm valence transition from +2.3 towards +3. Such behaviour is typical of highly correlated Kondo insulators like SmS and makes Sm(2.75)C(60) the first known molecular-based member of this fascinating class of materials.     

Improvements in the Synthesis of the Third-Generation EGFR Inhibitor Osimertinib

Osimertinib, a third generation potent and specific EGFR inhibitor is an important drug against many forms of cancer. It was synthesized by an improved and highly efficient protocol, revisiting the classical synthetic process and modifying parameters, such as solvents, temperature, reagents, and reaction time. A cost-effective, environmentally friendly methodology for the synthesis of osimertinib was established, which gave shorter reaction times, saved labor by eliminating purification steps through column chromatography, and enhanced yields. Four of the seven steps in total, were proceeded quantitatively or almost quantitatively (ca. 98 %). This synthetic protocol provides a very high overall yield, up to 68 %. In addition, the entire approach enables the preparation of osimertinib analogues and could be extended in the synthesis of other structurally similar bioactive compounds.
