The effect of solvents on the extraction of lanthanoids with 18-crown-6 and trichloroacetate

The effect of solvents on the extraction of lanthanoids with 18-crown-6 and trichloroacetic acid was investigated for the solvents, 1,1,-dichloroethane, 1,2-dichloroethane, 1,1, 2,2-tetrachloroethane, chloroform, di-2-chloroethyl ether, and methylene chloride. Distribution coefficients (25 °C) normalized to the water solubility (wt./vol.) in the solvents correlated to the polarizability index (^*) for La³⁺, Ce³⁺, Pr³⁺, and Nd³⁺ with r values=0.93,0.93,0.95, and 0.98, respectively. The distribution coefficients for Nd³⁺ also correlated with the Hildebrand solubility parameter () (r=0.98). These correlations agree with the literature that for large ions, the extraction thermodynamic properties correlate with the polarizability index and Hildebrand solubility parameter.     

Improved method for analyzing estrogens in water by liquid chromatography-electrospray mass spectrometry

An improved LC-electrospray ionization MS method was established for four estrogens (17beta-estradiol (E2), estriol (E3), estrone (E1), and ethynyl estradiol (EE)) in environmental water. Almost complete separation of all estrogens was achieved on a phenyl column with methanol/water as the mobile phase. Quantification was achieved in the negative ionization mode using selected ion monitoring. The instrumental detection limits were 20-30 ng/l for the four analytes. In Milli-Q spiked water, the recoveries of the four estrogens were 72-81%, which was similar to those found for river water spiked with the corresponding deuterated estrogens. The detection limits for the four estrogens in river water were 0.1-0.2 ng/l. The method was used to detect residual estrogens in the Tonghui River, which receives water from a municipal sewage treatment plant in Beijing; E1 (1.1 ng/l) and E2 (0.2 ng/l) were detected.     

Synthesis of selenium-containing polyphenolic acid esters and evaluation of their effects on antioxidation and 5-lipoxygenase inhibition

Six novel selenium-containing polyphenolic acid esters were synthesized and evaluated as antioxidants and 5-lipoxygenase inhibitors. Synthesis of the title compounds involved the Mitsunobu reaction of polyphenolic acids with 2-phenylselenoethanol. Compounds and were found to be very effective antioxidants and 5-lipoxygenase inhibitors with activity comparable to or better than caffeic acid (3,4-dihydroxycinnamic acid) phenethyl ester (CAPE).

WOx/TiO2光催化剂的可见光催化活性机理探讨

采用磁控溅射技术在用浸渍提拉法制得的TiO2薄膜上，溅射氧化钨层,通过气相反应中光催化降解二甲苯的实验表明，WOx/TiO2薄膜具有可见光活性.通过UV-Vis吸收光谱、X射线光电子能谱（XPS）等方法对其可见光活性的机理进行探索.UV-Vis吸收光谱表明WOx,TiO2对可见光响应的范围有一定的扩展,吸收强度增加.XPS表明WOx/TiO2薄膜表面形成了明显的W杂质能级和Ti缺陷能级,这是WOx/TiO2在可见光范围有一吸收的主要原因,也是光催化剂具有可见光活性的必要条件之一，同时杂质能级的存在使半导体费米能级上移,载流子增加,光催化效率提高.
