Fluorescence quenching of pyrene and pyrenedecanoic acid by various kinds of N,N-dialkylanilines in dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine liposomes

Fluorescence quenching of pyrene and pyrenedecanoic acid by various kinds of anilines has been studied in dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine liposomes in gel phases. N,N-dimethylaniline and p-isopropyl-N,N-dimethylaniline caused anisotropic diffusional quenching, while N,N-dicetylaniline, a less mobile quencher, predominantly caused static quenching. These data suggested the location sites of both pyrenes and anilines in the membranes.     

A new method for the synthesis of some 9-β-D-arabinofuranosylpurines by a combination of chemical and enzymatic reactions

An enzymatic transarabinosylation between 2-chlorohypoxanthine and 1-β-$\text{D}$-arabinofuranosyluracil gave 9-β-$\text{D}$-arabinofuranosyl-2-chlorohypoxanthine which was chemically converted to 9-β-$\text{D}$-arabinofuranosylguanine and its derivatives.     

Thermal degradation of poly[(tetramethyl-p-silphenylene) siloxane]

For the purpose of studying the mechanism of thermal degradation of poly[(tetramethyl-p-silphenylene) Siloxane] (poly TMPS) a series of polymers with silphenylene and siloxane bonds in the main chain were prepared and subjected to thermogravimetry (TG) and pyrolysis study. Analyses of products from poly TMPS degradation (in vacuum at a constant temperature) by gas chromatography (GC), infrared (IR), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC–MS) revealed that degradation occurs at the silphenylene bonds. The TG curves obtained in He for heating rates of 1,2,2.5,7.5, and 10°C/min were analyzed by the Ozawa method; activation energies of 39 ± 1 and 45 ± 2 kcal/mol were obtained respectively for the initial cleavage of the methyl side group and the later-stage scission of the main-chain silphenylene bond which leads to a major weight loss. The results agree with those obtained for other structurally similar polymers.     

Caesium-selective PVC membrane electrodes based on bis(crown ether)s

Caesium-selective PVC membrane electrodes based on bis(crown ether)s containing benzo-18-crown-6 moieties were prepared using two kinds of plasticizers. Selectivity coefficients for various interfering monovalent ions were determined by the mixed solution method, and were found to relfect the complexing property and extractability of the bis-(benzo-18-crown-6)s. The electrochemical selectivity was also compared with that of the corresponding monocyclic analog and valinomycin.     

HeII(304Å) photoelectron spectrum of N2O4

The 304 Å HeII photoelectron (PE) spectrum of a mixture of NO₂ and N₂O₄ in the gaseous phase has been measured in the region up to 29 eV. By subtracting the HeII spectrum of NO₂ from the mixed spectrum, the HeII spectrum due to N₂O₄ has been deduced, indicating that there are three new PE bands in the region 20—29 eV. Relative band intensities have also been obtained from the HeII of N₂O₄ below 16 eV, corrected for electron collecting efficiency.     

Preconcentration of trace elements from pure manganese and manganese compounds with activated carbon as collector

A method is described for separation of traces of Bi, Cd, Co, Cu, Fe, In, Ni. Pb, Tl, and Zn from pure manganese and manganese compounds and their determination by flame a.a.s. After the metal or manganese dioxide samples have been dissolved in acid (and manganese salts in water) the trace elements are compleed with potassium xanthogenate. The solution is then filtered through a small filter paper covered with activated carbon, whereby complex compounds are separated from the matrix. When the charcoal is treated with acid, a trace concentrate is obtained which is nearly free of manganese. The detection limits for the analysis of 10-g samples of manganese metal are <0.5 p.p.m., and for 30-g samples of MnCl₂-4H₂O are ? 0.1 p.p.m. The relative standard deviation, in general,is lower than 5%.     

Electrical conductivity of cytochrome c anhydrous film

Electrical conducitivities of both ferricytochrome c and ferrocytochrome c anhydrous films were measured at physiological temperatures. A film-casting method was applied to prepare the films. Rather low values of resistivities (55°C) of 6.5 × 10¹⁰ Ω cm for ferrocytochrome c in comparison with the previously reported value of 10¹¹ Ω cm (127°C) were obtained. Apparent activation energies for the above conductivities, 0.6 eV, were the same in both samples.
