Well‐posedness and approximation of solutions of linear divergence‐form elliptic problems on exterior regions

This paper describes well‐posedness, spectral representations, and approximations of solutions of uniformly elliptic, second‐order, divergence form elliptic boundary value problems on exterior regions U in when N ≥ 3. Inhomogeneous Dirichlet, Neumann, and Robin boundary conditions are treated. These problems are first shown to be well‐posed in the space E¹(U) of finite‐energy functions on U using variational methods. Spectral representations of these solutions involving Steklov eigenfunctions and solutions subject to zero Dirichlet boundary conditions are described. Some approximation results for the A‐harmonic components are obtained. Positivity and comparison results for these solutions are given. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

Infinitely many homoclinic orbits for a class of second‐order damped differential equations

We investigate the existence and multiplicity of homoclinic orbits for the second‐order damped differential equations For Equation 1 where L(t) and W(t,u) are neither autonomous nor periodic in t. Under certain assumptions on g, L, and W, we get infinitely many homoclinic orbits for superquadratic, subquadratic and concave–convex nonlinearities cases by using fountain theorem and dual fountain theorem in critical point theory. On the stability of impulsive functional differential equations with infinite delays

In this paper, the stability problem of impulsive functional differential equations with infinite delays is considered. By using Lyapunov functions and the Razumikhin technique, some new theorems on the uniform stability and uniform asymptotic stability are obtained. The obtained results are milder and more general than several recent works. Two examples are given to demonstrate the advantages of the results. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

Spectral analysis and stability of thermoelastic Bresse system with second sound and boundary viscoelastic damping

In this paper, we consider the energy decay rate of a thermoelastic Bresse system with variable coefficients. Assume that the thermo-propagation in the system satisfies the Cattaneo's law, which can eliminate the paradox of infinite speed of thermal propagation in the assumption of the Fourier's law in the classical theory of thermoelasticity. Meanwhile, we also discuss the effect of a boundary viscoelastic damping on the stability of this system. By a detailed spectral analysis, we obtain the expressions of the spectrum and deduce some spectral properties of the system. Then based on the distribution of the spectrum, we prove that the energy of the system with a boundary viscoelastic damping decays exponentially. However, it no longer decays exponentially if there is no boundary damping. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

An environmentally benign synthesis of isoxazolines and isoxazoles mediated by potassium chloride in water

An effective and environmentally benign procedure for the synthesis of isoxazolines and isoxazoles has been developed by a cycloaddition of nitrile oxides with alkenes or alkynes in water. In this approach, potassium chloride is first oxidized into chlorine in water by the environmentally friendly oxidant Oxone®, then aldoximes are oxidized into nitrile oxides by the in situ generated hypochlorous acid, finally a 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition between nitrile oxides and alkenes or alkynes occurs to provide the corresponding isoxazolines and isoxazoles in good yields.     

Colorimetric signaling of Hg ions by a nitrobenzoxadiazole-appended cyclen-triester

A novel Hg²⁺-selective colorimetric sensor based on a cyclen–nitrobenzoxadiazole (NBD) conjugate was investigated. A cyclen derivative with three ester ligands was used as the binding site and the NBD moiety acted as the reporting chromogenic subunit. Interaction of 1 with Hg²⁺ ions resulted in a pronounced color change from pink to yellow, and fluorescence signaling was also possible. Selective colorimetric signaling of Hg²⁺ ions by NBD-functionalized cyclen with a detection limit of 1.5 × 10⁻⁶ M in aqueous environments was successfully achieved.     

Synthesis and application of moisture-stable methallylsilanated phosphorylcholine as a surface modifier

New methallylsilanated phosphorylcholine (MASPCs) were synthesized via a copper-catalyzed ‘click’ reaction and demonstrated excellent moisture stability. Hydroxylated silicon compounds, silanol, and silica were grafted or modified by MASPCs in the presence of triflic acid (TfOH) and they possessed a good grafting efficiency and high loading rate.
