Synchronized EPI phase contrast velocimetry in a mixing reactor 总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
Notwithstanding its widespread use in cardiovascular and functional MRI studies, Echo Planar Imaging (EPI) has only recently been subjected to systematic validation studies. Most velocity measurement studies employing such ultrafast MRI methods involve the use of phantoms characterized by rigid or deformable solid motion. The current implementation involves a rotating phantom (angular velocity up to 10.5 rpm) with a superimposed swirling liquid flow (with axial velocities ranging between 0.145 and 0.27 cm/s) of water doped with copper sulfate. The standard implementation of single-shot EPI with phase contrast velocity encoding allows the complete mapping of the Eulerian velocity field in slices perpendicular to the rotation axis following a subtractive procedure requiring the synchronized acquisition of each velocity component on each selected transverse slice during two revolutions of the rotor. The image acquisition time is 100 ms (per velocity component) at each 64 x 64 slice. In addition to acquiring full-field velocity data for future direct comparisons with other techniques, EPI is employed here for the first time to reconstruct the three-dimensional flow field between the blades of a partitioned pipe mixer. 相似文献

Dynamic alteration of shim settings during a multi-slice imaging experiment can improve static magnetic-field homogeneity over extended volumes. In this report, a pre-emphasized dynamic shim updating (DSU) system capable of rapidly updating all non-degenerate zeroth through second-order shims is presented and applied to high-field multi-slice imaging studies on the human brain. DSU is utilized in both non-oblique and oblique slicing geometries while updating in-plane and through-slice shims. Image-based magnetic-field maps are used to quantify homogeneity improvements and comparisons are made on a slice-specific basis between static global shimming and increasing orders of shim inclusion utilized DSU. The influence of oblique slicing geometry on DSU-utilized global homogeneity is also quantified computationally. Finally, the effect of DSU on susceptibility artifact reduction in single-shot axial-sliced EPI is analyzed using experimental acquisitions. 相似文献

When homogenizing the static magnetic field over extended in vivo volumes, significant residual inhomogeneity can remain after spherical harmonic shim optimization. This is due to the low spatial orders of shims available on in vivo MR systems and the presence of higher-order inhomogeneity in the vicinity of anatomic air cavities. Mediation of this problem through the development of higher-order spherical harmonic shims is severely impeded by bore space limitations. Sample-specific passive shims are not limited to low-order spatial compensation and offer an alternative means to increased homogenization. Here, we present a novel construction protocol for sample-specific passive shims comprised of both diamagnetic (bismuth) and paramagnetic (zirconium) materials. A prototype shim is constructed and shown to significantly homogenize the mouse brain at 9.4 T. Further homogenization capabilities are simulated through alteration of the shim construction. 相似文献

Two auditory feedback perturbation experiments were conducted to examine the nature of control of the first two formants in vowels. In the first experiment, talkers heard their auditory feedback with either F1 or F2 shifted in frequency. Talkers altered production of the perturbed formant by changing its frequency in the opposite direction to the perturbation but did not produce a correlated alteration of the unperturbed formant. Thus, the motor control system is capable of fine-grained independent control of F1 and F2. In the second experiment, a large meta-analysis was conducted on data from talkers who received feedback where both F1 and F2 had been perturbed. A moderate correlation was found between individual compensations in F1 and F2 suggesting that the control of F1 and F2 is processed in a common manner at some level. While a wide range of individual compensation magnitudes were observed, no significant correlations were found between individuals' compensations and vowel space differences. Similarly, no significant correlations were found between individuals' compensations and variability in normal vowel production. Further, when receiving normal auditory feedback, most of the population exhibited no significant correlation between the natural variation in production of F1 and F2. 相似文献

As metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) devices are shrunk to the nanometer scale, flat shallow metal/Si electrical contacts must be formed in the source/drain region. This work demonstrates a method for the formation of epitaxial NiSi2 layers by a solid-phase reaction in Ni-P(8 nm)/Si(1 0 0) samples. The results show that the sheet resistance remained low when the samples were annealed at temperatures from 400 to 700 °C. P atoms can be regarded as diffusion barriers against the supply of Ni to the Si substrate, which caused the formation of Si-rich silicide (NiSi2) at low temperature. Furthermore, elemental P formed a stable capping layer with O, Ni and Si during the annealing process. A uniform NiSi2 layer with an atomically flat interface was formed by annealing at 700 °C because of the formation of a Si-Ni-P-O capping layer and a reduction in the total interface area. 相似文献

A detailed three-dimensional concurrent flame spread model is tested and compared with three sets of experiments. The parameters varied include: gravity, flow velocity, pressure, oxygen mole fraction, and sample width. In buoyant flows (normal and partial gravities), the computed steady spread rate and flame profiles agree favorably with experiment. The predicted extinction limits are lower but can be improved. Comparison in forced concurrent flow in microgravity shows correct trends. The predicted steady spread rates are lower than the experimental ones if the flames are short but higher than the experimental ones if the flames are long. It is believed that the experimental flames may not have fully reached steady state at the end of the 5-s microgravity drops. Longer duration microgravity experiments in future will be needed to substantiate this belief. 相似文献

We report near-optimal tracking of freely diffusing fluorescent particles in a quasi-two-dimensional geometry via photon counting and real-time feedback. We present a quantitative statistical model of our feedback network and find excellent agreement with the experiment. We monitor the motion of a single fluorescent particle with a sensitivity of 15 nm/sqrt Hz while collecting fewer than 5000 fluorescence photons/s. Fluorescent microspheres (diffusion coefficient 1.3 microm2/s) are tracked with a root-mean-square tracking error of 170 nm, within a factor of 2 of the theoretical limit set by photon counting shot noise. 相似文献

We present here the results of a numerical study on light scattering from nonspherical particles with relevance to detecting precancerous states in epithelial tissues. In previous studies of epithelial cell nuclei, the experimental light scattering data have been analyzed by comparison with Mie theory. However, given the spheroidal shape of many cell nuclei, the validity of this assumption demands a thorough investigation. We investigate this assumption by using the T-matrix method to model light scattered from spheroids with parameters relevant to epithelial cell nuclei. In our previous studies, we have developed a data analysis procedure that extracts the oscillatory component of the angular-scattering distribution for an ensemble of epithelial cell nuclei for comparison with Mie theory. We demonstrate that application of our analysis procedure to the predictions of the T-matrix method for spheroids, oriented such that their axis of symmetry is aligned with the incident light propagation direction, generally yields the spheroid dimension that is transverse to the incident light propagation direction with subwavelength accuracy. 相似文献

In (3)He magnetic resonance images of pulmonary air spaces, the confining architecture of the parenchymal tissue results in a non-Gaussian distribution of signal phase that non-exponentially attenuates image intensity as diffusion weighting is increased. Here, two approaches previously used for the analysis of non-Gaussian effects in the lung are compared and related using diffusion-weighted (3)He MR images of mechanically ventilated rats. One approach is model-based and was presented by Yablonskiy et al., while the other approach utilizes the second order decay contribution that is predicted from the cumulant expansion theorem. Total lung coverage is achieved using a hybrid 3D pulse sequence that combines conventional phase encoding with sparse radial sampling for efficient gas usage. This enables the acquisition of nine 3D images using a total of only approximately 1 L of hyperpolarized (3)He gas. Diffusion weighting ranges from 0 s/cm(2) to 40 s/cm(2). Results show that the non-Gaussian effects of (3)He gas diffusion in healthy rat lungs are directly attributed to the anisotropic geometry of lung microstructure as predicted by the Yablonskiy model, and that quantitative analysis over the entire lung can be reliably repeated in time-course studies of the same animal. 相似文献
